[News] Bombings, Mass Attacks, Terrorism, etc - Catch all thread

Well, I saw the articles in the major news outlets that I follow, though I know of coverage of it back home. Still, saw less attention devoted to it over the days than I would have expected. At least that is my impression, YMMV. Of course, if the interest shown by the public is, by and large...

[News] Bombings, Mass Attacks, Terrorism, etc - Catch all thread

Happened on Friday if I recall, but I've seen surprisingly little on the webs about it. 300+ people dead is rather a lot for a single attack. Of course, last Friday had the Black Friday sales. Might explain a bit.

[News] Bombings, Mass Attacks, Terrorism, etc - Catch all thread

There has been a suspected ISIS terrorist attack on a mosque in the Sinai, leaving 305 people dead. This may be a bit unusual for the region. There has been a long history of terrorist groups targeting the government, but few attacks where they have targeted the general muslim population...

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

As a follow-up: Mugabe resigned. A word to the wise: when you are a sub-Saharan dictator, don't piss off your military. It's not good for your career.

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

So, a diplomatically isolated sub-Saharan dictator threatens the chief of his military. Next thing you know, there is a military coup in the country. Who could have seen that coming.

    Rant VIII: The Reckoning

I hope to extend to you the my earnest intention not to offend you when I ask: What is the degree of your husband's disability? EDIT: I wish to state that I do sympathize with your family's situation. But I do wonder if t is possible that your government is: a) too cheap b) too...

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

I don't know, there had to be a first one? And it just happened to be a guy from the "other side"? Unless of course the consensus is that no person on the Democrat side would ever condone such behavior.

Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

*Sigh* Look, you always need to invest in the future. Education is never a poor bet. I mean, sure, you might currently have that mortgage to worry about. Perhaps some student loans on top of that. In a couple of years you might hear the pit-patter of tiny feet, which to your ears can sound...

    Life's weird, though, isn't it?

It is, isn't it. I am glad you have found a path in life which brings you contentment, and wish that this path will guide you to where it is you want to go. In the mean time, I think you and I have an arrangement regarding brofists. Just saying.

In this case, I think you would end up executing people who were too poor/stupid to cook the books. The truly rich do it now to avoid paying taxes, why should they refrain from doing it to avoid being executed?

The Random Crap Thread 2: It Hits the Fan.

Umm... are you sure you're not over-thinking things a bit? Because the only thing I got out of that video was "the champagne is on me".

I would also like to thank our host, GasBandit, for taking the time and effort to make this thing happen. Cheers! As to my other fellow colonists on the planet, thank you for participating in this adventure and making our common project come through. You all deserve to live your lives in peace...

Emphasis mine. So, on a hypothetical note, having auxiliary bases with a (much) smaller size and fewer people might be practical even for a highly developed colony, at least insofar as defence goes? Probably not a good idea for the Halforums House game, as we seem to be well on our way...

Former President and Convicted Felon Trump Thread

While I'm not sure he meant it that way, there may be a kernel of truth in what Trump said. My information is only on how the Finnish system works, but as I understand it things work in a similar fashion in most countries. Embassy staff on a foreign posting get paid their normal salary, but...

[PC Game] Halforums House: Rimworld - the story thread

Well, I don't own a copy of the game, nor have I ever played it, so I can't say exactly how the mechanics work. But I was thinking more along the lines that you have a dozen or two of your toughest guys, all equipped to the max. Why not work with that? Plot a course to the ship which stops by...

Have you considered utilizing pre-owned structures and resources along the way to the waiting ship for the 'tough' team? Could help with the the supply situation.
