2017 Eclipse

For the other Haligonians out there, I'm going to be setting up this afternoon at Trinity United Church (Maps link to navigate by) in Timberlea (just off of highway 103) with some sun shades (Celestron brand, so won't blind you!) and my telescope with a sun filter on the end of that too. I'll have a few lawn chairs, and will be chilling out for the duration of the partial eclipse. For us it starts at (approx) 2:30pm, so if anybody in the area can come out, I'll attempt to entertain you!

And at worst, the Church has a Pokestop, so you can do that if you want, and there's a Tim's within walking distance too.

I'm at an Indian casino. I will probably gamble and then go outside when it's eclipse time. This somehow feels both incredibly trashy and yet also perfect.

I've got my glasses from B&H Photo. Weather calls for Isolated/Scattered storms in the afternoon, but in Florida that can mean anything. Jun's at work, but I'm going to head over there at 2:30 so I can make sure she can at least see the eclipse at its peak.

Under four hours to go, and we've currently got clear skies, with a forecast of 27% cloud cover at totality.

So we are staying put, which is great for many, many reasons. We took a big risk with this area which historically has lot at of overcast days this time of year, but it was near family and so we ran with it. Hopefully it'll pay off, but the major decision - whether to chase better weather or not - has been made regardless of outcome.

The spectroscopist used his equipment at work and tested the glasses amazon disowned. His equipment isn't designed exactly for this test but it goes past the limit for the test, and he compared it to known good eclipse glasses. Turns out these ones are better than the known good glasses.

Single data point, not the official test, my glassesprobably aren't the same as yours if you boughtones amazon disowned, I disclaim any liability for your use of his information, yadda yadda yadda, but I thought a few here would at least be interested in that data point.

I wish that I were feeling well enough to join you! It would be really cool to see. I have to get my act together health wise for the next one...we're right in the path of it!

PS - I love that you mentioned the Poke Stop :)

Oh come on! There has not been a cloud in the sky for the last 2.5 weeks! Today? Cloudy.

eclipse has started here. I have Celestron glasses and handheld filters, so my wife's already snapped a pic of the first sliver of the moon across the sun.

We have a few wispy clouds, but nothing substantial enough to block out the sun.

My pinhole projector looks nothing like what it actually looks like in Denver right now. Clearly I messed up the pinhole or something because I only see half an eclipse and we're at peak.

Though honestly I didn't watch the whole time, so it could just be the little half moon I see is just the tippy top of the sun.
