People voluntarily subscribing to your Facebook feed complained that you should get a blog? I would have told them they're idiots.

No no no... They LIKED the posts, and said I should make a blog, so they could read it. On a blog.

I dunno man, it's them that's be crazy.

Awesome! I've read the latest post, and look forward to the rest, but this is great:

"I'd apparently been dragged to girls' night out, surrounded by Japanese girls, which would normally be cool, except that I couldn't understand ANY OF THEM AND ALL THEY DID WAS MAKE FUN OF ME. It got a little better towards the end after they got some drinks in them though.

Also, I've always wondered what the world was like to dogs, and now I imagine I know: It's being surrounded by creatures you cannot understand and you have no idea what's going on, but you're just happy to be there. Every now and then you might hear your name and your perk your ears up to see if anything's happening, and then if not, you just go back to whatever you were doing. That's what a dog's life is like, and that exactly how I feel here."

Oh god. It's true.

In Hawaiian, "keiki" means child. So when I read that in your blog I had to laugh because you were going to buy a child for your girlfriend's birthday. :awesome:

Haha, glad you enjoy it.

Yup, keiki means cake here, because roughly half of Japanese words are our words. >__>

And Jay, nothing terribly crazy yet. I'm currently making muffins in a microwave that has an "oven" setting, so I've never pre-heated a microwave before. But really, nothing insane. Everyone here is quiet and keeps to themselves. Trains right before midnight are insane, because you get packed in THICK. Like, tighter than sardines. Hopefully I'll be able to visit some stuff soon and have more interesting and crazy posts. I can't go off every day because my girlfriend works here, so we're stuck to weekends. We've got Fake Thanksgiving, Square Enix store, and a sake festival coming up this weekend.

I think the noddle stuff is yakisoba. It's basically stir fried noodles and vegetables. It's pretty common festival stuff.

This stuff? The stuff on the right is probably batter dipped and deep fried octopus (the top stuff is cut octopus) and the bottom looks like some kind of deep fried pickle.
Ah, thanks! I think the lady at the table told me the bottom was sweet potato. Any idea what the stuff on the left is? They look like some sort of sweet cinnamon stick, but I'm sure that's wrong. For all I know, it's incense.

The noodles are definitely yakisoba, yes those are sweet potatoes, and the fried bits look like kaarage (I think that's the name), which is chicken.

Edit: Cool pictures and such! Also yeah, on day 9 that is most likely eel. It's delicious.

Yay canned coffee! My husband bought me several types while he was in Sasebo. I really liked the Georgia European and I think the other was cafe au lait. He was going to bring back more, but someone stole them out of his workshop. I'd love to see these in the US.

Yep, that describes perfectly my time in China. And what Chinese opera did to my ears. Woof!

I think Hybrid is a delivery company or something... that guy had boxes in his van and a scanner in his hand.

Tommy Lee Jones isn't just a spokesmen for Boss coffee. He's also apparently in several Softbank cellphone ads as part of the White Family (those would be the ones with the japanese wife and mother, a black older brother, and a dog as the father). Tommy Lee Jones does TONS of stuff in Japan because he literally loves it there. He visits all the time and he's pretty well known, unlike a lot of western celebrities.
