UPDATE 7-24-10: I've gotten a bit more comfortable with the DMing and I'm open to having a 4th and 5th player enter the game. You must be able to use Vent (have a mic) and Gametable. We play at 6:30 PM Eastern time on Wednesday evenings, usually until 10 PM Eastern.
You can be whatever race/class mix you want, be part of the surroundings the characters are embroiled in or an outsider to the situation as a whole; you can even come up with your own neat ideas and we'll make them work together (ex: the human cleric Jaisahn is blind and has a seeing eye familiar, which affects his Perception checks and RP situations).
The current players are a human cleric, a human barbarian, and an eladrin warlock. Do not feel pressed to fill in class role slots--be what you want to be. Currently the three, who were spending the night in the castle, defended Queen Remica II from an organized assassination involving a dozen individuals willing to kill themselves and each other to get to her while her palace was understaffed due to other factors. The three have been tasked with finding the mastermind behind this and bringing him/her back alive for the Queen to torture.
I'd love to fit anyone in ASAP, even into this Wednesday's game if they were up for it, so please, post or PM or whatever you want with character and sheet. Thanks
.
-------------Old post---------------------
I'm looking for people who want to play D&D 4E on Gametable and Vent, with me as the DM.
An important note here:
Be gentle, it's my first time.
I've been playing for over a year and have gotten the interest up to try running a game. I've been doing my reading and such, and would like to run a game with those willing to give me a chance.
I'd like to do a night a week, choosing the night based on what's good for players--any week night but Thursday, as that is my playing night.
Since this will be my first game, and I'll fortunately have DreamGoddess helping here if I need, but I'd like to limit the game's size a bit. I can be pretty flexible with how to manage encounter stuff, as I've been learning a lot, but I'd like to keep it to a party size of 3, stretching to 4 if Dream wants to join in.
So, I need three people. Post if you're interested, and we'll see whose schedules work together. I'd like to start games at 7PM EST, though I can bring that up to 6:30 EST if people want more game time/end earlier, so post opinions on that too.
Setting
The setting will essentially be standard fantasy, basic D&D, although I'll be making locations and area.
You'll be starting in Caragi, a sprawling port city from which Queen Remica rules the kingdom with an iron fist. The city has become rich from trade, and thus also decayed morally. The police are the Queen's servants, basically caring for her pet projects, and don't really give a damn about the common man. Everything is about increasing the city, and thus the kingdom's, riches.
Across the Royal Bay lies a stretch of island where cliffs make up the coastline except for one place that has been frozen in a wave of ice for centuries. The island is called Olith, though no one remembers where the name came from. In most parts of the kingdom, people believe it's just a deserted island, with animal life, the cliffs, and high, snow-topped mountains at its center. People in Caragi know better. On some clear nights, in the distance, you can easily see the light of fires along the cliffs, and perhaps in the mountains if your eyes are
very good. It's been largely ignored, until now.
One day, as everything was business as usual, ships going out, coming in, crimes going unsolved, war being planned, a Queen wrapped in self-love, the wave of ice cracked, crashed, and the tide swept over the port city. No great damage was done, and no one died (who was important) but when the water washed away and the people of Caragi looked north, they saw the break in Olith Isle's cliffs--a beach where ships could land, and a great green land just begging to be occupied by the overflow of Caragi. A land of mystery, maybe treasures, maybe dreams. And there is Caragi, staring at it, festering and glittering all at once as its rich get richer and everyone else gets poorer.
With all the hub-bub about Olith Isle opening, the police and guards have been mostly busy making the Queen happy, getting ships and crew ready to head out, and so the city's common good is more neglected than ever, and it's doubtful whatever riches come in are going to help.
But maybe there are a few people who will make a difference?
Characters
For making characters... anything in the rules goes (race/class); we'll make it work. If it's not in the rules, we'll discuss it (ex: in Faline's Amaranth game, our party's Warforged is being treated as a golem).
If you want to be from the city, that's great; if not, also great, but think of a reason you're there. If you want your character to have some occupation or position in Caragi, that's great too. Basically, don't restrict yourselves, and if I think something might be trouble, we can talk about it and make it work.
As for money and equipment, my rule is going to be similar to what I've played; you start with 100g. Your starting weapon and armor are free (non-magic, just base equipment), and so is an Adventuring Kit, which I do intend to try to keep track of contents being used. Other stuff, if it's something crucial to your character's backstory, i.e. you're an actor, so you'd need a disguise kit, etc. run those kinds of things by me and if I feel it's really crucial to that aspect, I'll say it's free. Otherwise, you have 100g to spend.
Everyone begins at level 1.
The Adventure
Essentially, I want you guys to direct the action, so I know what's what, but you can do what you want. I'm not going to force you into scenarios--my big thing is, whatever you choose, other things will continue happening around you, and they may end up affecting your adventure for you not having affected them previously. I think it'll be interesting and I hope we have fun together.
When
I'm hoping to start this sometime in mid-July. Post your availabilities as far as weekdays go; days you should hopefully be available. I intend to run the game as long as there are three people present, but if everyone can come to each one, that'd be preferred.
And if I make a newb mistake with rules or something, or if you have some page of the DM book that is particularly helpful and want to throw me a page number, please do.
I'm looking forward to playing.
