Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Game may tentatively be canceled this week because Julie and I are without electricity right now (posting from Borders).

If I haven't posted anything differently tomorrow (Tuesday) then assume the game is canceled for Wednesday.

Which really sucks; I had some cool stuff that I was eager to do. But maybe this will give time for a fourth person to join (or maybe we'll have power back--who knows).

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Well, in case you were biting your nails or not, we're on for tomorrow. Power's back.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Okay, so, Update again!

I'm canceling tonight's game on account of Julie. She was pretty sick last night and needs to get to bed early. I figured on this particular week with Shawn's game at the cliffhanger it's at, rather than push her to stay up more for my game and get sicker and more tired for Thursday, she gets to bed early and rested tonight so she can actually participate on Thursday. If she were just about getting to bed on time I'd do a short game rather than cancel, but she's aiming to hit bed early to get better.

Sorry, guys.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

What will we do? I'm sorry last week was canceled. What is this game about again?

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Brutal barbarian vexing elegant Eladrin, while a blind cleric and his dog don't watch.

We are currently about to start searching for the source of the Queen's assassins.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

The Queen just offered you guys reward to bring back whoever's responsible for the attempted assassination alive to her for torture, and Kraag asked of the whereabouts of (can't remember name but I think I have it written somewhere, Vanya's associate), and the Queen suggested if he's a merchant, to check the docks.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Act 1
Scene 6 – the blacksmith house

Aurora, Jaisahn, Kraag and Cornelius arrive at the Blacksmith's house to take him into custody regarding the death of his suspected bastard child.

They find his wife who offers them tea, but it is a vain attempt to delay them from finding her husband. Kragg decides to investigate the bedroom and is attacked by the blacksmith who blinds him with ashes and flees out the window.

Aurora and Kraag persue and with Jaisahn and Cornelius covering the exits, the blacksmith is quickly subdued and brought into custody.

Scene 7 – the Queen's Court

Aurora, Kraag and Jaisahn all in attendance of the Queen and explain to her the details of the crime and receive the Queens thanks and blessings. The Queen sentences the criminals and retires. Aurora, Kraag and Jaisahn and Mr Bo Jangelles retire at the Queens behest to the royal guest suites.

Act 2
Scene 1 – the Royal Bed Chambers

Kraag and Jaisahn are assigned a guest chamber along with Bo. Aurora returns to the Ladies in Waiting bed chamber. Numerous times during the night, Kraag leaves the room, at first trying to sneak into the ladies in waiting bedrooms, but he did here sounds coming from the Queens chamber itself that set him into a chivalrous rage.

Kraag burst pasts the guards to the Queen's chambers and interrupts a plot to kill the Queen herself. While Jaisahn and Aurora see to the Queen's safety, Kraag chases the villains across the castle roof tops and eventually slaughters the assassins. In the Queens chambers, Aurora removes the threat to her madjesty, while Jaisahn explores his detective skills and discovers two additional assassins and subdues them.

Unfortunately, one of them chooses to take his own life instead of facing the Queens wrath,

Scene 2 – the Royal Chamber

The Queen reveals her thoughts on the attempt on her life and on her contempt for her own security forces. Jaisahn and Kraag glower at the pathetic remnants of of the castle guardsman to differing results.

Upon reviewing the clues presented in the murder attempt, the Queen offers a commission to Aurora, Kraag and Jaisahn to uncover the masterminds behind the plot.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Thanks for this HC. I love it. Though I believe 1 assassin escaped.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Yes, the second boss assassin got away, but I am just trying to actually present the recap as a play that can be retold with slight differences.

I am so far behind on my writing it's sad....

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

But a bit of that isn't what happened either :p.

Aurora burst into the Queen's chambers, not Kraag. He was actually the last to enter.
One of the subdued assassin's killed the other, and the Queen told you all he killed himself after her attempts to get him talking.
And yeah, one assassin escaped.

I understand getting a dramatic effect, but if the dramatized version is what players remember, they may get details wrong for decisions they make later in playing. And two of those three corrections have an effect on stuff later.

EDIT: I'm sorry I've taken so long uploading the audios (for both this and Julie's game). Since I no longer intend to edit them for brevity, there's really no excuse. I will try to do it this week for both games.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Here's a commissioned picture of Aurora as she should look that a deviantart friend of mine did for me:

Gorgeous, isn't she?

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

It's a beautiful drawing.

I cannot believe how much you guys dodged combat tonight. I'll need to refigure the experience of those situations based on your RP dodges.

This was a very, very interesting session for me as a DM.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

First, lovely picture!

Second, since there was a question about it. Jaisahn is a pacifist cleric build. To maximize his healing abilities, he has taken feats that severely hurt him if he ever hurts a bloodied creature. He is still combat capable though, but he limits himself to debuffing targets and healing and enabling allies.

Third, more play!
Scene 3 – the docks

Kraag seeks to find Constable Cornelius to question him about Mosiah the merchant. Aurora tries to bully an overworked harbourmaster, but the poor sod has none of it. He eventually tells them off and says if you want to find a constable then commit a crime.

Scene 4 – the bar

Kraag commiserates his ill luck at the bar and hopes that eventually Cornelius will turn up there. Aurora is very anxious to move forward in finding the source of the Queens assassins. To help further this cause, Jaisahn asks the entire bar if they know who tried to assassinate the queen last night. This prompts a mob scene around Kraag as his spirits lift about how he conquered the hundreds of villains that tried to remove her Majestry. Aurora is beside herself with with all the attention this brings and starts to berate Jaisahn for his straightforward approach to the matte.

Cornelius and a scribe from the press arrive to investigate the large commotion in the bar so early in the morning. Jaisahn questions Cornelius about Mosiah the merchant, while Aurora and Cornelius both critize Jaisahns methods, and Kraag continues his tales of victory.

Scene 5 – Mosiah the merchants house

Jaisahn loads Kraag into his paddy wagon and along with Aurora they head to the edge of the city to interegate Mosiah the merchant. Upon entering the shop, they do not find Mosiah but instead his assistant Baela. Aurora vigorously questions the poor man, and he attempts to escape from her by looking for items in the back room. In doing so he sets fire a map.

A chase ensues where, Baela runs over Aurora with a horse carriage, but Jaisahn uses his daredevil like skills to avoid being crushed. Kraag attacks one of the horses and cause Baela to lose control of the wage just long enough for Kraag to grab hold and climb up. Kraag then tosses Baela off the wagon and the vendor is quickly subdued.

Another more vigorous round of question ensues. The group learns of the mysterious Bager Code and their use of magic items for transportation. Jaisahn collects the damaged map and then the group sets off to dispose of Baela at Cornelius office.

Scene 6 – the constabulary office

Cornelius is not happy to see the group of three and another possible prisoner. He reluctantly agrees to keep Baela in jail until the group returns, if only to avoid having to deal with the Queens court again. His displeasure at the nobility is very evident.

Scene 7 – the shop of the Great Grizor

Jaisahn uses his fine diplomacy skills and learns that the a mighty wizard named Grizor could help him repair the map. Eventually the three find themselves at the door of Grizor and after some negotiations they are able to repair the map, and Jaisahn even purchases a copy of the magic used to repair items.

Act 3
Scene 1 – the first stop on the map

The group take their horse and Jaishans waggon along the trail indicated by the map, and eventually arrive at a small town and discover a Bager Code company outpost at the gates of the city. Aurora address those in command of this sector telling them that she has a message from Baela to Mosiah. But unfortunately, Mosiah has just left and will not be back until morning. Trying to blend it, the group sets off into the find lodging.

Scene 2 – the common room of the Inn of the Rising Sun

The group seek lodging and food for the evening. A local maid approaches Kraag about evening service only to be assaulted by Aurora, perhaps out of jealousy or the notion itself. This results in Aurora facing the wrath of several male patrons while, Kraag studies his alcohol and Jaisahn enjoys dinner.

Eventually cooler heads prevail and Jaisahn is approached by some dragonborn mendicants who again upset Aurora, but in this conversation Jaisahn learns that the two mercenaries are heading north for a job. Perhaps back at the capital, but not sure.

Scene 3 – the bedrooms of the Inn of the Rising Sun

Kraag, though drunk wakes up when he detects the smell of smoke entering the room. The trio try to escape and eventually break down an adjacent wall to avoid the fire. A mad dash down the hall and the stairs reveals a group of arsonist assassins!
CLIFFHANGER! DUN DUN DUN!

Could Arsonist Assassins prover more deadly than Ninja Pirates? We'll find out soon enough kids.

Fourth, I actually think that the group works very well with 3 people, it's a good dynamic.

Fifth, would it be possible to see an image of the map?

Sixth, sorry I was so absent, I ended up spending 10 minutes out of thirty for about 8 hours dealing with my issues that night, they even continued into the next night during Julies game

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

HC, I love these summaries. Scenes are cool.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Vager Co. Like a company, named Vager. Vager Co. Not Bager Code :p.

Otherwise, yeah, good summary. I'll try to have audios of the last three sessions uploaded tonight.

I will get a rough version of the map up so you can have an idea of the shape of Remica and the pathway of the circles and arrows, but it will take a little time for me to get a more detailed map going with proper distance markers and such. And even on that map, only notable towns will be listed--others will be surprises, not important enough to map. Landscape may vary as well sometimes. But I will try to get something for you to look at ASAP.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Much belated, but here they are...

Episode 2 - Law and Order

Having deduced the actual murderer of the young boy, Aurora, Jaisahn, and Kraag join with Constable Cornelius outside the blacksmith's house for a showdown. However, having taken the time to get the police in on it allowed word to travel to the culprit. Crazy and unwilling to relinquish his home or freedom, the group find the place booby-trapped with smoke, ash, and fire. The Queen awaits in the Scarlet Court, with three nooses ready for guilty necks.

Episode 3 - In Her Majesty's Accidental Service

Having been well rewarded and fed, Kraag and Jaisahn retire to guest quarters while Aurora rejoins her handmaidens, perhaps believing her adventures are over. Nightmares awaken Kraag, and noises draw the others from sleep. They quickly discover that Queen Remica's life is in danger, her close guards swapped with impostors, and they're the only ones who stand between daggers and royal bloodshed.

Episode 4 - Hunting Mosiah

Though Aurora has been charged with taking the others and discovering the identity of the one behind the attempted assassination (as well as bringing whoever it is back alive for torture by the Queen herself), Kraag has a more personal pursuit in mind. Still seeking Mosiah, who may have contacts with the man who murdered his wife and son, Kraag searches for Constable Cornelius for clues of the man's location. Business partners lead the group on further confusing chases, and all signs (as well as a mysterious burnt map and a desperate merchant) seem to point toward Southcrown, a town outside the capital Caragi.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Sorry for delay: everyone got 350 xp for that. I prefer to encourage you guys to RP as you see fit for your characters, so you don't feel you need to pick fights to keep progressing. Of course, I won't just give it away :p. You guys missed a couple non-combat opportunities for more XP, but you also had creative solutions and good thinking to some situations that merited XP reward.

There aren't words for how much I wished you guys played during the day or weekend, lol. Sounds like an awesome campaign you have on the go Esc. :)

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Thanks. The first campaign people tried from this forum was on a Sunday and ended up having to be canceled because people kept having other things they had to do

Dang. Guess it just wasn't meant to be then. Only real nights I have free are Sunday & Sat (& Sat I like to leave open incase stuff is happening.) Stupid evening shift! lol. Anyways, I'll probably stick around & just chuck character ideas your guys' way once in a while to see what ya think & if anything for a Sunday ever DOES happen, that'll be the game I join, lol. :)

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Sorry for delay: everyone got 350 xp for that.
That brings us to a sneeze shy of level 3. Perhaps we should all select a level 3 power and build the macro's for it just in case and come up with any retraining we want to do before Wednesday.

My level 3 power will be Hymn of Resurgence and I am retraining my level 1 encounter power to Bane.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

That's a good idea. I didn't even realize and I apologize for not getting the info to you guys sooner. You'll likely be level 3 at the end of this encounter, and if you get into another one, you'll be level 3.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

I'm telling you, once my Bane/Astral Seal nova goes off, Kraag will love me more than beer.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

RAWR!!!

I've settled on Roaring Challenge. Decent attack power and does a Close Blast 3 making enemies take -2 to their attack rolls.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Combine that with my Hymn of Resurgence granting -2 to all defenses to targets in the blast and we have a nice combo together.

Esc's 4e Game, UPDATE: seeking another member (or two!)

Then we can both go.....

Jay: Arcanite
HC: Reaper
Together: HOOOOOOOOOOO!
