F***ing Microsoft *updated*

Mine got hit by lightning and only the network port was damaged. I didn't call them - simply filled out an online form, got a boxed mailed to me, put Xbox 360 in the box, got picked up the next day, got delivered back, fixed (they even put in an improved HDDVD drive) two days later. That's a pretty damn good service if you ask me.

And to people who get RRODs: this is often the case due to
a) leaving it on for far too long
b) shoving it in a confined space
c) putting it in a space where other appliaces are already generating heat

No, it shouldn't happen that easily but you should take precautions with everything. Actually, my Wii has artifacts due to overheating and it has a piss weak graphics card :eyeroll: And it was always standing upright with plenty of room on all sides so it goes to show sometimes things just break (and of course, a month after the Wii was out of warrantee).

My 360 is shutting off due to over heating but it hasn't gotten any red rings yet. :eek:rly:

I'm trying to follow your flow of logic. You want to be honest about getting your shit fixed for free, so in order to do so, you're willfully damaging it further in order to get it to break in a specific way that gets it fixed for free, effectively lying about how it broke in the first place...

Perfect sense!

You should have just told them you got a RROD to start with and sent it out instead of being a big pussy.

The no video issue is caused by overheating just like the RROD. they both have to deal with the X-clamp getting loose due to getting to hot. One just results in lack of video and opne results in the RROD. Both are caused the same way and even are due to the same problem just with a different result. So I feel no guilt over trying to make the RROD appear so that they will fix a known defect in the system.

I just think you're pussyfooting around the problem ala I love Lucy style instead of just owning up and bitching Microsoft out for the warranty coverage you deserve.

Yes I they deserve to fix the system for free. Yes it would have been easier to just tell them it was RROD on sporadic occasions. And yes maybe I am stupid for doing it this way but I still fell better trying to work the system according to there rules rather than lie about the problem. I already called and yelled at them for an hour or so the day ot happened and it the system won't get the RROD than i will call and yell some more but in the mean time I fell better myself trying to work according to there rules. Am I bending the rules? Yes. Am I breaking the rules not really since it was already overheating it's own. Hence the no video issue.

You're not lying about the problem when you're willfully destroying the xbox to get a free warranty? You're breaking the rules. You're causing additional damage to get the original damage fixed. People do this all the time with automobiles. They get into an accident and claim preexisting damage is attributed to the current accident damage. It's called insurance fraud. What you're doing is considered fraud.

How is this better than bitching out Microsoft until they fix your shit for the original video problem or just bluntly telling them that you have a RRoD and sending it out (according to your argument, your problem is essentially a form of RRoD)?

i am trying to be an angel for my own conscience. I know it really doesn't matter and that Microsoft deserves to fix it since it is a known defect in the system but i would prefer to be as honest as possible.

I mean the lesser of the two evils is to just embellish the problem enough to be attributed to RRod (not really even an evil since the problem as you stated is related to RRoD), instead of destroying the xbox and lying about how it happened.

It's a bit different since it is basically the same issue. As I said before both issues are caused by overheating and the x-clamp loosening. Both are the same problem just different symptoms/results. They should be fixing the no video issue for free just like they are fixing the RROD issue for free but they are still denying the link between the two problems. So I still stand by fact that I am not really causing anymore damage or breaking the rules since it is the same problem.

If it's the same problem then how would they know at the refurbishing plant that it's not a RRoD? I'm going to laugh if they bust out magnifying glasses and find towel fibers on your xbox vents. Stand by your assessment all you want. Most insurance frauds also make similar claims on why they do what they do.

I only did the towel once or twice and even than only for a few minutes. For the most part I am just leaving it on and seeing what happens. And as I said they probably wouldn't notice if I claimed it had the RROD and it didn't but it makes me feel better if it does have the RROD. Say what you will (and you may be right) but I feel better myself going about it this way.

I personally know a lot of folks who have force RRoD their Xboxs to get the free fix for other issues. it is not that big a deal.

what method did they use? I have been letting it run on it's own and occasionally using the towel trick. Is there a better way that doesn't involve freezers, toothpicks, or blow dryers?

I know it's not a big deal. I just don't see how it's "morally better" then sending it in for RRoD when it's not RRoD.

Couple did what I did, and jsut wrapped the fucker in towels and blankets for a good while and let it bake in its own juices while running.

even more so than morals is the fact I don't want there to be any disputes. If I send it in and say it has the RROD and they claim it didn't what am I going to do? Cause I know it really didn't. But if I know for sure that it had the RROD before I sent it in I will feel a lot safer. I may even take a picture of it just in case they try to weasel out of fixing my system or at least try to weasel money out of me for fixing it.

I think that you think that microsoft techs really give a rat's ass whether or not they're saving microsoft 100 bucks on a repair. If they dispute it, you bitch them out until they fix the problem for free.

I've been trying smothering the system with a towel and it shuts of from overheating and get two red rings but as soon as I turn the system off and back on the rings go away. How long did it take for your friends to get the RROD?

No that would be dishonest. :eyeroll:
Dishonest is being sold a faulty piece of shit that dies due to normal heat. A friend of mine went through 3 of the damn things because they kept red-ringing him.

Hylian, I understand you want to do the right thing, but really, they sold so many of these things with faulty issues even I could justify sending the damn thing in to be fixed for free.
