I have an MBA with a concentration in Macroeconomics. If I had a nickel for every Trump supporter who just plain do not understand economic policy or even what a fucking tariff is, I'd be one of Trump's billionaire buddies. Tomorrow I'm going to have to explain to them that yes, beef prices will be coming down soon but that's because supplies will be glutted since the rest of the world won't be buying our beef. It has to go somewhere and that somewhere is here. But after this limited time and demand does not go up appreciably, even though we still have good supply, the PRODUCERS will be going broke. Farmers will lose fucking everything. And then that supply glut will fall, all while demand stays the same. Then the scarcity effect will come into play and the prices will fucking explode through the roof. Shelves will clear. The poor will no longer be able to afford beef.

Now, take that same concept and change it to tomatoes. And soybeans. And corn. And wheat. And chickens. And...

So we have the news stories of cheap beef to look forward to. That’s fun.

I feel like at least with Reagonomics some people actually though it might work.

Meanwhile tariffs have always been like this, and anyone slaughtering cows for export while this is going on would have gone out of business long before.

Then again they did vote for Trump...

And there also was that think during the Great Depression where people where dumping milk into the harbour to keep local prices up...

This is certainly going to be an interesting time for people studying economics...

Just imagine what's going to happen to the housing market in three years after everyone signed up for reverse mortgages in order to keep being able to pay their other bills.

Well, my post is also assuming that retailers lower the prices during the glut. That may or may not happen. And all Trump’s rich friends will be buying land and farms from bankrupt farmers so there will be SOME winners.

A frustrating thing here is knowing that the Left is just as guilty of making up or exaggerating our own news, just as the Right does. Hopefully we do it with far less hurtful impact on people as a whole than Trump and his bullshit, but our bullshit is just as real sometimes.
I thought I'd look into this story, which is based on an article from The Atlantic. I couldn't read the entire article, because I just don't want to commit to a $80 subscription. A yahoo finance article and Syracuse (which Gas posted earlier in the thread) both cover the interview that Atlantic had with Gilbert, however neither have mentioned who Gilbert voted for or even the "believed Fox news" claim.
The story is that while getting feed from an Ontario supplier he had to pay $2200 more due to the Tariffs which he mistakenly did assume that the mill would be covering the difference.
“I’m not even sure it’s legal! We contracted for the price on delivery,” he told the magazine. “If your price of fuel goes up or your truck breaks down, that’s not my problem! That’s what the contract’s for.”
However he sadly found out that the tariffs are an exemption from the contract apparently, and that this will likely affect more than just his feed for the 1,400 dairy cows on his farm. The articles also do not mention if he claimed he would be going bankrupt in a matter of months.
Additional research lead to knowing more about Adon Farms in New York, where Mr. Gilbert is a part owner with other members of his family. Based on a previous interview with the farmers in 2013 a (then) 24 year old Nicholas Gilbert just discussed working on the farm his entire life with his family. This confused me, as the picture above is clearly not of a man who would be now in his 30s, and there is no mention on anyone else in the family who might be an elder Nicholas. So I did a quick reverse image search on this fellow above, and found that he's basically just a commonly used example of a full-on Trumpanzee.

I want all these claims to be real too. But the people who are making these claims are not doing us any favors by exaggerating or straight up making up details.
In addition I'm getting really tired of the number of clickbait articles I keep seeing posted online with claims like "Trumper SLAMMED for..." and "MAGA Promoter SLAMMED because"
The word "Slammed" is retired now. Find different words. That goes for "Roasted", "Trolled", and "Destroyed".
