Former President and Convicted Felon Trump Thread

This is a good point. Arguably both can be called "stupid", but there are vastly different implications from someone not being able to understand because they lack the intelligence to grasp the concept, and someone not being able to understand because they refuse to, or have a mental illness that stops them from, being able to accept reality. And the latter is much more terrifying, IMO.
Exactly. I think Trump is ALSO an idiot because he's horribly uneducated. But he also willfully ignores any experts who ARE educated in various fields.

The dangerous thing isn't that he's an idiot necessarily. It's that his own ego is so overpowering that he 100% believes whatever shit is coming out of his mouth.

Never attribute to malice that which can easily be explained by stupidity...
His pattern of behavior suggests to me a person who is not stupid, but instead a person who wants to be praised for everything he does... every choice he makes, every sentence he utters, every turd he lays, etc.

I think psychoanalyzing trump is a pointless endeavor. It doesn't really matter why he's the way that he is. He will be evil and do harm until he is dead, no matter what the reason.

No, I think psychoanalysis IS important. It's important to recognize these symptoms so we not only understand who we're dealing with, but also to prevent someone like him attaining this kind of power ever again. Writing him off as evil or stupid is far too easy and dismissive.

EDIT: I feel the same way about, say, mass murderers. I don't want to just sentence then to death or lock them away in a hole never to be seen again. I want every facet of them picked apart so we can understand them and hopefully prevent something like it happening again

In 2024 someone will run on "I am the same as Donald Trump." And they will have wide swaths of support, and probably win. Doesn't matter that smart people know what a disaster he is.

All the more reason to push for a better education system, to teach people critical thinking skills do they're not so blindly devoted to a demagogue. It won't be fixed overnight and it won't get rid of the problem altogether, but it'd be a step in the right direction.

EDIT: I guess I'm just naively optimistic that things could change for the better.

I honestly thing it's more narcissism than stupidity. It's easy to write him off as an idiot, but I think it's more that he's so firmly stuck in his own world that he rearranges the reality of the situation so it always suits his own needs.
He is literally so narcissistic that he is incapable of learning anything, because any acceptance of new knowledge would mean he didn't already know it and he can't have that.

It's actually almost impressive

In short, he's so narcissistic that he never stops to consider the merit/validity of what he does, because in his mind what he does is granted sufficient merit/validity merely by him having done it.

I think GWB was stupid. I think Trump is a combination of narcissistic and so sheltered that he honestly doesn't have a grasp of the concept of not getting what he wants when he wants it, outside of due to malice from others.
The media doesn't like him and says things that are hurtful and make him look bad. Ergo, the media is doing it deliberately to hurt him.

Holy shit. He's not just calling it Fake News to dismiss anything they say. He REALLY, truly believes it's fake because it's not a "truth" he can fathom.

The weird thing is, taking it at face value, he's basically saying he was a pretty good high school baseball player who thought he could go pro. He then went to a tryout and saw a true baseball star play, and realized he wasn't that level. The weirdest thing about that story is that trump accurately accessed his talents and realized he wasn't as good as someone else at something.

If you read the whole article, it shows a guy who was slightly better-than-average overall (but can’t hit for shit) playing for a weak team in a weak league... so he was never actually good enough to get attention from pro scouts. And yet he made up stories about hitting homers left and right, made up stories about the Phillies and Red Sox being interested, lied about trying out against Willie McCovey (who had already been pro for years), and generally overly inflated his talent in ways that historical records don’t back up.

And if that last part doesn’t sound like Donald Trump, I don’t know what else would.

Asked what History would think of this action, Barr literallly told a reporter, "History is written by the winners."

My above post was no lie, I went back to bed for 2 hours.

Well we'd better get some rough drafts started, then.

...and we know at least one of them has had repeated coronavirus exposure, aaaand none of 'em are wearing masks.

I'm sure it's fine.

Oh and also there was this gem from yesterday:

Ah, that's right... I forgot that taking steps to make sure every citizen's voice actually gets heard is considered "stealing."

Next you'll suggest letting the popular vote mean something. Or opening up voting booths in black areas! Haha! What a hoot that would be!

Well, I think he knows about our state, since he "visited" us just last week.

BTW - got my notification of being on the Permanent Early Voting List for the August 4th primary and the November 3rd general election.
