Former President and Convicted Felon Trump Thread

Jesus, I know this is callous because you guys south of the border are still fucked beyond measure with how Covid is going and Republicans likely to control the senate and likely to go back to doing the only thing other than packing courts that they're good at, obstruction, but if it's any consolation, it's going to be nice for us to have a normal president to go back to generally congenial national relations. One that won't fuck with both of our economies because someone slighted him or stood in front of him at a summit.

Not all hope is lost for the Senate. Georgia may save us once again with the runoff happening.

We might be seeing a big change in news coming up. Murdoch has not been really into the whole "FRAUD!" narrative that Trump has been pushing and seems to want to wash his hands of him. They even cancelled "Judge Jeanine" out of the blue, replacing her show for the night with extended coverage of Biden's acceptance speech, all because the show was going to support Trump's fraud narrative. Don't be surprised if Carlson and Hannity do a sudden change to be less "Pro-Trump" and instead sidestep him entirely to just talk about Biden and his upcoming policies.

This has a lot of Fox News watchers upset, claiming Fox has just become another wing of the MSM, and many claim they are going to watch Newsmax or OANN instead. If Trump or his family do start a competing network, we might see a literal battle of conservative news as they cannibalize each other.

That’s just sad.
”News” should by definition not be about any narrative, it should just be straight up facts with opinion/analysis “Here’s what we think” sprinkled in. The moment it starts preaching “Here’s what you should think,” it becomes propaganda, not news.

EDIT: Here’s an example, of sorts. An African journalist put together this “report” of the US elections, but done in a style meant to mimic the condescending and judgmental way that American journalism usually reports elections in other countries.

You know as well as I do that this is inevitable, at least in our current society. News has to be funded, and so capitalism ensures that it will transform into whatever form can make the most money, even if it has to subvert the very thing it set out to do. This has been happening for hundreds of years now, they've just gotten continually better at it.
