Apparently now it's just dyed applesauce or some other liquids of similar consistency. It used to be oatmeal with shampoo in it.

Yeah, according to the wiki article I found it started there with oatmeal/coloring/corn starch, and shampoo was added so it wasn't so hard to wash out. In the later 90's is when they made it less viscous with applesauce or whatever else they're using (apparently they treat it like the Coke recipe).
