For someone that's never really played adventure games, would the Monkey Island SE Bundle be a good starting point?
Maybe. They're got excellent dialog, both the writing and the voice acting, and the graphics are passable, but they've got some pretty inscrutable puzzles. They're not old-school King's Quest hard (where you could get into unwinnable situations) but they've got their own sort of adventure game logic, MI2 especially. If you're prepared to get frustrated, then they're excellent games (with an in-game hint system, now), though I tend to think that Telltale's offerings are more accessible to a new audience. For someone that's never really played adventure games, would the Monkey Island SE Bundle be a good starting point?

Sadly, that one-day sale is over now. There's still time to grab it for $5 at GOG.com's sale, though. Not much time.Anyone who hasn't nabbed Evil Genius should totally do so. It's got its flaws, but overall, it's a fun little game that's worth $1.50.
