For someone that's never really played adventure games, would the Monkey Island SE Bundle be a good starting point?

Maybe. They're got excellent dialog, both the writing and the voice acting, and the graphics are passable, but they've got some pretty inscrutable puzzles. They're not old-school King's Quest hard (where you could get into unwinnable situations) but they've got their own sort of adventure game logic, MI2 especially. If you're prepared to get frustrated, then they're excellent games (with an in-game hint system, now), though I tend to think that Telltale's offerings are more accessible to a new audience.

What's been your Steam haul so far?

This year hasn't been as plentiful as last year was for me. But I've snagged a few. I think I've spent between $10-15 in total:
-Super Meat Boy
-Blueberry Garden (for $0.99? Sold)
-Misadventures of PB Winterbottom (ditto)
-Plants vs. Zombies (after playing it on my brother-in-law's iPad)
-Civilization IV complete set (I have this on disc, already, but this will be easier to reinstall)
-Monkey Island II Special Edition

Looking at my list, I can't remember everything I got last year, but some of it was The Lucasarts pack (Dig, Indiana Jones, Loom), Machinarium, Braid, Max Payne 1 & 2, Zombie Driver, Evil Genius, Freedom Force pack, Ben There Dan That and Time Gentlemen. About a dozen games in total for about $20. :D

God, I love Steam sales.

2010 wasn't a huge year for gaming so my haul thus far hasn't been much. I played all the games I wanted to play.

2011 though... there's at least 20 games I'm DYING to play.

My haul so far has been

-Super Meat Boy (Pretty awesome, especially if you don't mind "frustration platformers" a la I Wanna Be The Guy)
-Borderlands GOTY Edition
-The Witcher Enhanced Edition
-F.E.A.R. Bundle (Was a bit annoyed that F.E.A.R. 1 cannot be installed without the expansions: not only are they from what I hear not very good, but due to a dispute between Monolith and Warner Brothers, they were made with no input from the former and thus aren't considered canon)
-DeathSpank

...damn it, they go through several days with nothing major only to hit me with this. Hitman Collection and Red Alert 3 + Uprising are already in the bag, deciding whether to get FC2 or not.

Two observations:

1) Why is FC2 more expensive in Europe? It's made by UBISOFT for crying out loud! Damn it, I thought the French were bigger supporters of the "European Project" :p
2) According to my research, Hitman Contracts isn't sold on Steam because of some song rights. Go figure.

I dunno for how long this has been going on or for how long this will continue but in occasion of the release of Secret Of Mana for the iOS, Chaos Rings is now 54% off in the Apple App Store. I've bought it and while it's not as deep as a Final Fantasy game, it's still quite a decent RPG with an interesting story, especially considering the platform (for what it's worth, The New York Times considered it superior to Final Fantasy XIII)

Sadly, that one-day sale is over now. There's still time to grab it for $5 at GOG.com's sale, though. Not much time.

Ah. Yes. I see that, now.

*thinks back to yesterday* Oh, right. I was spending the vast majority of the day in bed with a naked girl. :D
