Uvalde parent Brett Cross has some words for Texas police, after their brutal crackdown on Texas university students protesting against Israel’s war in Gaza. At the University of Texas at Austin Wednesday, more than 100 troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) showed up in full riot gear and military fatigues. They were deployed “at the direction of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, in order to prevent any unlawful assembly,” according to a statement sent to The Texas Tribune. The response caught the attention of Cross, a parent of one of the children shot and killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, in May 2022. “Shit, if only they’d have moved like that when my son was being murdered,” Cross commented on X (formerly Twitter). “But what do I expect….1 AR-15 keeps 376 officers at bay.”

So if the pro-Palestine supporters had carried AR-15s they'd have been left alone?
Truly, the lessons you guys teach are weird

South Dakota governor, a potential Trump running mate, writes in new book about killing her dog

Kristi Noem killed the puppy because she deemed it untrainable, and hated it for that. She took the dog to a gravel pit and shot it in front of horrified workers.

She knows this is a horrible story, and she's telling it precisely because it makes her look like a cold blooded killer. That's exactly the type of person that Trump voters want.

This is how the GOP is campaigning now, trying to show off who is most willing to be a fascist.

And apropos of nothing, today these tweets are tweeted...

To be fair*, sadly, that was the legal case for a long, long time, and had only recently changed even in some Western countries. Intramarital rape, rape by a woman, anal rape, male on male rape, rape by insertion of another object rather than penis, rape of someone unconscious/unable to consent,... Are/were all things that were not "rape" and in many cases not even illegal in way more places than people like to admit.
Some things like "removing the condom during sex despite her saying you can't" are often still not prosecutable.

*but why?

The Biden administration will ease federal restrictions on cannabis, reclassifying marijuana from the most strict Schedule I to the less stringent Schedule III. The new rule would not legalize cannabis outright for recreational use, but instead recognize the medical uses of marijuana. It’s the first time that the U.S. government has acknowledged the potential medical benefits of marijuana. (Associated Press / NBC News / Politico / Axios / New York Times / Washington Post)

House Democrats said they’d block Marjorie Taylor Greene’s effort to remove Speaker Mike Johnson. Greene and two other Republicans hardliners have threatened for weeks to introduce a motion to oust Johnson because he worked with Democrats to approve a $95 billion foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. “If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said. “From the very beginning of this Congress, House Democrats have put people over politics and found bipartisan common ground with traditional Republicans in order to deliver real results. At the same time, House Democrats have aggressively pushed back against MAGA extremism. We will continue to do just that.” Greene, nevertheless, suggested she’d force a vote anyway, saying: “if the Democrats want to elect him Speaker (and some Republicans want to support the Democrats’ chosen Speaker), I’ll give them the chance to do it.” (Politico / Associated Press / NBC News / Bloomberg / Wall Street Journal / Axios)

And the sad thing is, Johnson is only a smidgen less of a fascist Trumpist asshole.
If the Democrats were actually electing and supporting some consensus candidate from whatever is left of the moderate wing of the Republican Party, such statements from Greene would make sense (and the left wing would say similar things).
With this guy.... Not so much

God, that position is just a revolving door at this point. As said above, there was a time when this would be an unequivocal humiliation for the GOP. We've fallen so far.

The Arizona House repealed a Civil War-era ban on nearly all abortions – two weeks after the state’s Supreme Court upheld the 1864 law. Three state House Republicans joined Democrats in repealing the law that made abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison for anyone who performs one or helps a woman obtain one. The measure now heads to the state Senate and the Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs would need to sign it to reinstate a 2022 law, which permitted abortions through 15 weeks of pregnancy. (Washington Post / Associated Press / NBC News / Politico / Axios)
The Arizona state Senate voted to repeal its Civil War-era ban on nearly all abortions. Two Republicans broke with their party and joined 14 Democrats in voting in favor of repealing the 1864 law. Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, is expected to sign the bill, which would reinstate a 2022 law that permitted abortions through 15 weeks of pregnancy. (Washington Post / New York Times / Associated Press)

Florida’s ban on most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy went into effect. Florida joins eleven other states in the South that have restricted abortion access, either with six-week bans or total bans. Florida’s new law will replace its 15-week ban, forcing most Floridians and other Southerners to travel further to places like Virginia, Illinois or Washington, D.C. More than 9,300 people traveled to Florida last year for abortions. (Associated Press / NPR / NBC News / Washington Post / New York Times)

49% of Americans want politicians to pass laws ensuring national abortion access, while 37% say abortion laws should be left to states, and 14% want nationwide restrictions. (CNN)

I would like to know what a "street-fighting mentality" looks like with regards to "creating value" on a fast food menu. I can guess that it doesn't mean charging less or providing more or better food, so what's left?
