Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

I had a feeling when I went to bed last night. Americans just fucking hate women for some reason. And let's not forget the racism.

But some of the groups that fell to Trump astound me. Low income I kind of get because even though the larger economy is doing great, individual finances aren't doing so hot thanks to unregulated corporate greed. But single issue voters and for some reason really religious people and (in the category of are you even fucking WATCHING?!?) Latino men. There's going to be a lot of leopards eating faces in the next four years. And like @Dei says, it's going to end up being Vance at some point in my opinion as well. But even worse than all of that is the Project 2025 is now going forward. Mass deportations, the further militarization of our police force as a wing of the government, the expansion of the supreme court to fully load it with young Trump syncophants, the raping of our national parks for corporate and oil companies. This is extensive and insidious. And we deserve it. I just hope congress can reign some of this in. What? They now have both houses? I guess 248 years was a decent run.

Nobody elected Trump because they thought he was a good leader, or had a great plan, or the best teeth, or whatever. Trump was elected because enough people saw in him a candidate who has gotten away with the same sort of behaviors they want to do, and they believe installing him as the nation's most prominent figurehead will empower and legitimize their actions once they go out-and-proud with their desires to subjugate other humans due to superficial differences, or abdicate some/many/all of their inconvenient responsibilities.

Welcome to a live demo of option "B" from the Paradox of Tolerance, everybody.

I'm just done with this country. I'm getting out one way or another before the civil war starts or they come for us. Buying a gun left my to do list when I left Texas but guess it's time to get serious.

Yeah, I think I’m gonna need to disconnect for a while. I don’t know what the next 4 years will bring, but I think I need to focus on what I can control. I can feel those things I can’t do anything about right now taking my mind to bad places. I guess I had too much faith in people.

Yes we are. We're already worshipping the gas of life in Alberta and the UCP has promised to do away with all carbon restrictions.

4Chan Milhouse, our next Prime Minister, is about as unfit as it gets. Lifelong snake politician attached to just about every crime the party has committed in the last 2 decades. Fucking robocall scandals from early in the Harper days.

He CANNOT or WILL NOT get security clearance in order to sit in on Canadian security briefings. A guard in a jail in a small town who's job is to feed the one drunk they have during the day has to go through a month of intensive background checks and apparently the leader of a fucking poltiical party can just sit it out.

Sadly, this is happening all across the developed world. High inflation and even perceived high inflation is never good for a ruling party. Voters are pissed that their grocery bills went up after the pandemic. You can try telling them this is a global issue, but they don't care. People are angry about food prices and want to take it out on the incumbents. We've seen incumbent heads of state or ruling coalitions resign or lose power in Britain, France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy. Canada will likely follow the same route. We have also seen a backlash against immigration as more than 15 MILLION people have migrated to the rich world since 2020. Voters feel like they have less and they think the stuff they want is going to immigrants who are blasting tribal music and shooting all the jobs.

Next year, when the tariffs and retaliatory tariffs take effect, you can be sure that prices are likely to go up again. Voters will still blame illegal immigrants. There are only 6000 ICE agents so there is no way they can round up the millions that Trump is promising to deport.

If Democrats want to win, maybe stop only campaigning for Republicans.

Whose vote were they trying to win by fucking trotting Liz fucking Cheney out?

I tell whose vote they didn't win by doing it.

Small silver lining... If Harris does in January what Trump wanted pence to do, it will be very funny.

It would be the start of the next war, but it would be funny

I'm like the rest of you I'm sure, distraught from this all day. I haven't even been able to call my children or my mother, all who were very much along us Trump rejectors, because I just don't have words. I can't describe my sorrow. I can't be the supportive encouraging father or son that wants to promise it will be ok, that we'll get through this, that after the storm there will be light. I can't feel positive myself there will be. I can't try to comfort anyone.
I'm not a doomsday sayer. I usually can always find the light somewhere. But I can't in this

I can't. I just don't see anything but darkness, even maybe just evil. This is not ok

And I'm the Necro. Isn't there some old saying? About if idk how it goes, but bad looks at bad and says woah, that shits not cool

I would just like for all of us to have a chance to look back on this page of this thread after four years and say “we survived”

I'm honestly worried for my son, my husband, my MIL. There have been episodes of "mildly bad", but ...I honestly don't know now that accountability is out the door.
