Yeaaah....

So which version will you get? Console or PC?

I'd love to wait for the PC version but after those sexy trailers... tis hard.

Pretty much this. I don't buy anything on release because my backlog is years long.

He says as he's playing FFXIV and Bioshock Infinite......

Gonna wait for the PC version too.Unless it is gonna be a shitty port like GTA 4.

Girlfriend is buying it release day for herself and I'll play when she's at University.

I'm honestly really tempted to get it. I think I'll wait a few weeks. School's starting today, so yeah.

Also, a friend of mine gave me his code for PS Plus when he bought a PS3 recently. And I played XCom yesterday for the first time...ALL DAY.

I can't really get excited for this one for some reason. I love that style of game, but so far, GTA 5 just hasn't grabbed me with the desire to play it.

I liked GTA 1-2-3-London. I tried on 3D version, which was such a horrible horrible port on PC that it just soured me on the whole genre/type/series. I think I'd rather replay London than play this one.

GTA 3 was both 3D and a pretty good port on PC.

Fine, than I've played 1, 2, London and 4. Or I have a differing view of what makes a good port. Either way, Steam, Gamespy and Games for Windows Live together made for a clusterfuck.

That was Grand Theft Auto 4 and it was a bad port.

I have fond memories of Vice City. Played it on PC, too.

I don't recall 4 being that bad of a port. What were the major issues?

#15

Frank

Frank

When it launched, yeah, it had major performance issues, GFWL issues, etc. It got patched into working order eventually.

You shouldn't base all of the modern GTAs on your experience with 4. 4 was, in my opinion, the weakest of the series. But 3, Vice City, and San Andreas are all awesome.

I've heard that the DLC for 4 also returned to the fun of GTA instead of the grit, but I don't have any experience with it.

San Andreas is my personal favorite. I think, in my heart, I always wanted to be gangsta.

I loved Vice City for the radio stations alone. I literally spent hours just driving around in my car listening to the radio.

The dlcs were much less serious, brought back parachutes and improved both motorcycle and helicopter physics and are much more fun to play throuh than Niko's story. They all interweave with each other to some extent as well.

Personally, if nothing else I am just glad that planes are back. Loved trying to thread the needle through city centres in San Andreas and land on/take off of that big mountain.

I'm kidding, no one misses that fucking piece of shit.

I adore the 80s. Besides the first two GTAs, I only ever owned one other of the series. Guess which one.

So, it's getting universally 10/10 and 5/5's everywhere and the exact same hyperbolic review language that GTA4 got. I'm definitely ok to wait on it.

Gamespot gave it a 9/10, and among a few other criticisms the reviewer complained about rampant misogyny. Naturally the comments section is going apeshit, with people starting petitions to get her fired.

Such delightful people, video game nerds.

Fucking Christ. Yeah, I can only imagine what the Escapist's comments must be like, the guy only gave it like 7/10, the lowest score allowed by law.[DOUBLEPOST=1379361515,1379361304][/DOUBLEPOST]Every GTA5 review:

If you ever wonder why Rockstar games are the receivers of such hyperbolic reviews.

Jeff Gerstman gave it 5/5. That alone is tempting me to get the game.

#27

Frank

I'd like to clarify that I don't think GTA5 will be or is a bad game, it's just the insane accolades that are draped on each new installment (even when they don't deserve it, GTA4) are sketchy, especially given Rockstar's treatment of reviewers who don't tow the line. Which is especially baffling because Rockstar generally makes fucking good games. Is it necessary to be the biggest bullies around? Let your awesome games speak for themselves.

I will definitely waiting to get it on PC if anything. Hopefully the port is good. If not, I'll just pass.

Waiting for PC. Or, more accurately, waiting a year after PC release for a 75% off steam summer/winter sale deal.

But found this funny.

Yeahh.. so it's stuff like this that makes me fear for the launch of the XBone

So if you aren't aware, there is a real-life smartphone app called iFruit (wonder where they got THAT from) that ties into the in-game experience. You can visit Los Santos customs & trick out a custom car which you can then go pick up in-game. There is also a dog companion that you can train using the app, to make him more useful in-game. The app also provides linkage to the Rockstar Social Club, which is an online site to keep track of progress in the various R* games. I used this a bunch playing Red Dead to track my 100% progress.

So - you've got one of the most hyped up, anticipated games of the year coming out. Gonna sell a TON of copies. Launch day arrives and...

You can't access anything on the app because of server overload.

I think I can count on one hand the number of successful launches of games that needed online server access. Good God I was there for the horror of Anarchy Online's early days.

From R* reps:

"We are aware of these issues with Social Club or related networking hardware/services and have been working to resolve them as quickly as possible," it says on its support pages. "If you would like to receive an automatic email notification when these issues are resolved, please log into the Support Site and click Subscribe.

"Please note that we are aware of some reports about problems with the iFruit App (available on iTunes), such as login errors, endless loading spinners, and the app appearing to reset data. Rest assured that we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible."

When are they going to learn you can NEVER have too much server availability for a product launch?

Must be nice to even have the option. I've got an Android phone and have to wait for them to release that version.

Oh, yeah, I broke down and bought it yesterday. It's a pretty damn great game so far.

I'm pretty much not buying any more games on the current generation consoles except the WiiU. Unless they pull out some last minute awesome exclusive for the PS3, but I doubt that. They're already to busy working on the games for the PS4.

#35

Frank

I coulda sworn there's still a big name game in the wings for PS3.

Oh yeah, that Ellen Page/Willem Dafoe game Beyond Two Souls.

I totally forgot about that one. OK, so one more for the road.

BTW, I just rewatched the trailer. They must be using the mocap technology that LA Noire used. It's got that almost approaching the uncanny valley realism to it.

You can pick up GATV for free on the PC this week.

I fucking love Saints Row.
