Is Destiny as cool as the commercials make it look?

I keep seeing these TV spots for Destiny, and they're doing a good job of selling me the game. Is it nearly as cool as it looks, or is there a lot of hype?

Feedback is pretty mixed. Many claim it's pretty boring.

If a game ad is going ACTION ACTION ACTION, it probably isn't.

Nobody I know is super-into it, but nobody flat out hates it either. Seems to be pretty middle-of-the-road from what I'm hearing.

But hey, why answer his question when you can whine about PC/console shit?

It's very generic storywise but the gameplay is fun. I would probably wait until it drops in price as you won't be too far behind. Max level is 20 right now with you able to get a little passed that using some gear, I think 26. Currently at 21 but I haven't really done much else since it came out.

It is very much borderlands without the soul though.

Has nothing to do with which is better, I'm not dropping hundreds of dollars on a console for one game.

That's a fine, valid point. It's the whole "hur dur pc deserves it cause it's a shooter" that's annoying. The console/PC thing is as dumb as the Nintendo/Genesis thing.

I never really got the whole console/PC thing, either. I even put my money where my mouth was after arguing with people on here about it. Are the games shinier on the PC? Sure, but I also sit a whole lot closer to the screen. I flop back on my couch with my PS3 controller and I can't say it's a world of difference. Not enough to care. Checks and balances to me. Simplicity, comfort, and touch feedback vs. pretty and flexible. Eh, I'll take either, and neither wins. Call me a filthy casual.

I looked at a game play clip and it looked pretty boring. A group of people was trying to take down a boss, but even with everything going on it just seemed kinda meh.

Dude, this isn't an argument about console vs PC.... that would require the game to be out on PC for us to complain about how much better/worse it is.

I have to disagree on the graphics. I play on my PC from the same distance that I play on my PS3(my TV is also my computer monitor), and I can still tell a difference, in particular the resolution. PCs also have access to a whole host of fog, cloth and other such effects that are ahead of the curve for consoles. That's one of the reasons that if a game is out on all platforms, I'll always default to the PC, unless it's a really horrid port. And because almost every game that comes out is cross platform now, it makes owning a console absolutely useless for me.

But, I still want Microsoft to keep cranking out the consoles so that I can have decent game controllers for my PC.

I can route my pc output to my television with the push of a button, and play on my couch with my wireless controllers if I so choose.

Filthy casuals.

One advantage of consoles, or at least used to be, was that the hardware didn't really change. You never had to worry about having the right graphics card or sound card or proper setup or how certain drivers interacted. You had a console, that was what the game required. Since I don't like having to reconfigure things every time I want to play something, that appeals to me.

Ironically now I do most of my gaming on PC, though since the newest game I own is Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age 2, being at the tip of the curve isn't really so much an issue. Now, it's a matter of, "I do a lot of my work on PC, so it makes sense to game on it too, instead of having to buy a new console." (my latest console is a PS2)

See, you say that but all you spout is

Doesn't exist for PC so who cares.
Instead of trying to make a point, you dismiss anything important by being a blind PC fanboy. Instead of "fuck it not on PC who cares" why not either talk about the game's various reviews, or ignore it since you can't play it/won't bother to buy it?

For a board so against the mindset of things like 4chan's /v/, there's a staggering amount of similarities.

The biggest advantage of consoles was that they were consistent, meaning that there were fewer bugs, and games HAD to be in a great state before release because they had no way of patching them. PC games have had patches for years and years, so we are used to it. Now, that advantage is gone. With there being fewer drive issues due to better PC architecture and constant connectivity for updates. Consoles nowadays are, for the most part low rent computers. That's one of the reasons that the WiiU is the only console I'm buying this generation. It's still a console, not a weak PC with a crappy OS that trys to sell me stuff.

One thing that gets me is that the best trailers for Destiny are the live action trailers using 'Immigrant Song', which is awesome. The gameplay trailers, not so much. I think I'd be a lot more interested if it was a 3PS instead of FPS (for some reason I handle those a lot better). On the other hand, watching the gameplay of TitanFall makes me want to play it if I had a top-shelf gaming rig.

Actually, I think some of the best advertising for games that I have seen is actually the Let's Plays done by Achievement Hunter. I really didn't have much interest in GTAV until I watched their gaming events, and now I'm waiting for the price to drop so I can get it and a bunch of the DLC. Their multi-part Lets Play of Titanfall really showed how fun and intense that game can be and went from "Hmm, that game looks cool," to "Holy shit that game is fucking awesome!"

I think that's what he was expressing.

You may also be reading a bit more seriousness into these posts than is intended.

Peasant.
But by coming into a thread where the OP is asking about something and you respond with NO FUCK THAT HERE'S THE THING, you're not helping anyone, you're just being a Charlie.

Stop being a Charlie.

Personally, I look forward to when they port this to PC.

Because they will eventually.

Titanfall actually doesn't require a super high end gaming rig to run. It requires a fairly beefy computer, but most gaming PC's should be able to run it just fine. My EA hate aside (and there is plenty) it's actually pretty well optimized, other than the fact that it's using uncompressed 'super textures' that devour harddrive space for no good goddamn reason.

And that's what makes it even more hilarious.

Everyone jumps on CDS for his posting style, but really most of them do them same as him in their own way. But instead of thinking "oh yeah, we're being hypocrites" they just keep going.

Fuck that, here's the thing: Destiny looks interesting, but since it's not yet out on PC, I have no vested interest to really pay much attention to it, until such a point that it is out on PC.

And I would define being a Charlie as arguing against things in which there's no real reason to argue. In which case, stop being a Charlie. :troll:

Actually, that's probably more like being a JCM.

And before you say "If you have nothing to contribue, why post" I'll ask you this: Have you ever read this forum before?

Yeah it's not really a gaming rig, it's just a general use PC. I have to tone down the graphics on Transformers: Fall of Cybertron to keep it from running slow.

Alright, so we're both Charlies in the end.

Then instead of whining about NO PC WEH WEH, why not look into reviews and see if the game is even worth wanting? PC gamers bitch about not getting games that consoles do, but are the games worth worrying about to begin with?

Whoa... whoa.... where did I use profanity in anything I said? I am sorry if my response set off one of your sore spots. You've clearly been hearing a lot of complaints elsewhere about Destiny not being made for the PC. (Hmmmm... I wonder why that is.....)

Maybe this thread needs a trigger warning.
