Feeling good these holiday days. Lots of work to do but lots of flexibility in doing it. Can't wait to see the folks and my brother next week.

I get to cook more this year, because a few people can't bring their usual dishes.

I'm responsible for:

-Spinach madeleine
-carrot souffle
-pecan pie
-pumpkin pie
-spiced pecans

I can't wait to spend an entire day in the kitchen. :)

No, I love cooking! :D I always want to cook sides and stuff--not just desserts--but everyone else insists. I love being a part of the actual meal. ^_^ Now if only mom would give up the sweet potatoes. I don't like the way she makes them.... with pineapple in it... blech.

Um, well glad you shared, kinda?
Ok, here is my giant whine.

My parents can't come out over the holidays. We can't go back east any time soon. I miss my family and friends in PA and NJ. I haven't seen my best friend in nearly 4 years. And now my husband got orders for his next duty station where I may not see them (my family and friends back "home") for at least another 2 - 3 years. But, I knew what I was getting into when I married someone in the military, right? It doesn't put me in much of a Christmas-y mood, though.
At least my husband isn't deployed. There's a plus.

This is a great Christmas. While I enjoyed seeing my family a couple weeks ago, I am happy not to be dealing with their stressing, alcoholism, greed, whining, in-fighting, etc... the usual holiday season shit.

Instead, Julie and I are sleeping over at my aunts' house on Christmas Eve, watching the twins open their gifts on Christmas morning... No frantic "open quick!" no "orderly opening" no *glug glug* of the wine bottle emptying, no "we have to cook all day!" Just a nice relaxing night and day with people who understand the holidays are about enjoying yourself, not going apeshit crazy about unimportant things.

Wow seriously? Everyone around here is having a shitty Christmas and *I* one of the ones looking forward to it?

Oh something has gone off kilter for sure....
The new softer Sheg? Even your avi is in the spirit of the season.

We had our first snow yesterday, despite the impression Scotland gets less snow than some parts of England. Being on the West Coast we have it very mild so crappy rain is the norm. Snow and lying snow in particular has hit my Christmas button.

Me and the family are having no guests for the first time. So we can please ourselves which means Bucks Fizz and Caviar for Breakfast before a leisurely wind down to lunch. Chicken being the bird of choice this year.

Plus sides:
Watching TV with no guilt.
No, I say No, Brussels sprouts!
No presents for the adults. No not even socks.
The kids get lots of new toys so will pretty much entertain themselves for most of the day.
Two new Doctor Who episodes.

Down sides:
<.<
>.>

nope none.

Going to see my family for Hogmanay in York (a mid way for us going south and them coming north rental with gym and pool) and I'm on leave from Christmas Eve until the 5ht January. It really doesn't get much better. Seasons greetings one and all.

Christmas got a little more lucrative. I just got hired to make an appetizer for a Christmas party. I love making bacon-wrapped dates. :D

I wonder if my girlfriend will appreciate being wrapped in bacon on our next date.

I am not into Christmas this year. I have to put on the happy holiday act for my kids and family. Here, I don't have to.

Agreed. I only enjoy watching my kids get their gifts. Thanksgiving and Memorial Day>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Christmas

While I'm into Christmas this year, that IS the big thing to me. I can't wait to see my little cousins open their presents. And actually, I enjoy seeing others be happy with what I get them. I think once you grow up, the excitement is less about getting stuff and actually more about seeing others get stuff from you.

And it's mostly for kids anyway. I think my mom is finally understanding that now that both my sister and I have moved out and my younger stepsiblings can usually buy their own stuff.
