Nothing really more to report yet other than that.

His son is expected to take over but I suppose you never know.

I wonder if this will turn into another Osama bin Laden is dead thread.

I see this having zero effect on anything, since Kim Jong Il was a puppet for a group, not the head of one.

It is a bit sad that the death of one of the greatest anti-Communist fighters, Vaclav Havel (see thread https://www.halforums.com/threads/godspeed-vaclav-havel.26918/) will be overshadowed by the death of this asshole.

I'd like to believe that the cheerful ghost of Vaclav Havel visited Kim the night of his death and delivered a scathing speech at the ronery, radies'-grasses-wearing midget that his brains exploded.

That or he fell of the ladder climbing down from the toilet seat.

I just feel pity for them. The North Koreans have been completely brainwashed when it comes to seeing the world. They've suffered famines and government murder, but they weep for the man behind it all. I hope that somehow Kim Jong-Il's death will lead to positive change.

Copied from elsewhere. I loved the last comment

Quote:

Kim, likes Mao, is the leader who beloved by the people within the country but feared by the west. His death shocks the world!

Even general Kim Jong II passed away, the N. Korean people should keep solidarity.

Nobody will morn him (Kim), except China and Cuba.

The best way to memorize Kim is improving the living standards of the people in DPRK.

The most urgent task for DPRK is maintaining the independence and integration during the national mourning. The disputes between the South and North Korean people are the family affairs which should not allow the interference of the United States. And they should end the fighting situation cooperate with each other to drive the U.S. military troops out of the Korean Peninsula. DPRK is no use to change its political system, however, must interact with South Korea in the economic issues. Giving a better life for the people of DPRK is the best way to memorize the Dear Leader.

The reason why there is famine in North Korea is China doesn’t give enough food to them.

The stability of North Korea is good for China!

Korean people are crying out, that shows Kim is the person who has the real influence in the modern world.

The world loses a hero fighting against America.

The Yankees’ missile defense system would be deployed in the Yahu River for a long time if without Kim Jong II’s resistance.

Hold on, comrade Kim Jong-un! Truly hope he will be a new leader who can bring changes to DPRK. Whatever changes in the world, will not change the reality of the friendship between China and North Korea. Come on, North Korean people!

Looking around the world, can you find any countries who follow the United States are no rich since World War II? Which one is week among Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, Israel or Taiwan? The South Korean people are playing XBOX, drinkingCoca-Cola or surfing on the beach while the people in the North are concern about the food for the children. Both two are countries the same nation, why there is such a big difference between them?

Bizarre scene on CNN right now as they carry North Korean coverage of the funeral. Extra microphone on the wailing mourners.

(and right on cue, CNN switches US viewers to an Anderson Cooper repeat while international stays with funeral)

I'll just leave this quote from Wicked here

ELPHABA(spoken) So you lied to them.

WIZARD
(spoken) Elphaba, where I'm from, we believe all sorts of
things that aren't true. We call it - "history."

(sung) A man's called a traitor - or liberator
A rich man's a thief - or philanthropist
Is one a crusader - or ruthless invader?
It's all in which label
Is able to persist
There are precious few at ease
With moral ambiguities
So we act as though they don't exist

I don't think so. I honestly believe that the majority of them loved him and really think that he is the god that they all should be grateful for. If you don't learn anything otherwise your whole life, you have no context to think anything negative about him.

#64

The whole running out of town into the forest to gather bark to make soup... may color one's opinion of the great leader.

There will still be a group of people that keep their bullshit filter working just fine. Yes he was trying to brainwash the masses, but he won't be 100% successful by any stretch.

#65

Well the people you see mourning are in Pyongyang. They're the ones who get all the food.

Look at it this way, even though it's pretty much universally agreed that Bush was the worst president since Nixon, there would still have been an outpouring like this if he had died in office.

My tears would have been real because then Chaney would have been president... *shudder*

Bush was just an idiot, Chaney was just plain evil.

#67

Kinda reminds me of the old joke about the first President Bush... "Did you hear about the assassination attempt on President (GHW) Bush? The assassin missed, but the Secret Service got Dan Quayle 11 times."
