Krisken's art stuff, previously all 40k miniatures

It had it's issues, but it had some good stuff too. The change to rapid fire weapons, for example, was definitely an improvement.
Yes, but we also had system wide removal of cover, the addition of fliers (so poorly implemented they kept breaking the game), and death stars which were made worse by the Battle Brothers mechanic. Seriously, what fricking idiot thought it would be a good idea to have the ability of Independent Characters to transfer to units they join?!? Especially when you could have BB IC's join the main army's units. Just stupid beyond belief.

That's even beyond how awful the codex creep was in the game, starting with Daemons, on to Tau, and then on to Eldar.

All the new rules seemed to basically be: "You need to buy the new shit, or your army will be obliterated before the third turn."

The new Daemon summoning thingie looks kinda terrifying to me. The idea you can summon Daemon units, but only certain ones depending on which spells you randomly roll, is kinda annoying. Imagine having to bring a ton of models and hoping you brought the right ones for the summoning bits. So weird.

I imagine a lot of people ignoring those new rulesets. I know for a fact that no one I play with will deal with that unbound shit.

Wow, I don't even know what GW is doing anymore. So, in a legal non-unbound 40k list amounting to 1850 points, I can take 12 lvl 3 Heralds of Tzeentch and 6 units of 11 Horrors. That's 48 +d6 dice in the Psychic phase WHICH CAN BE USED TO SUMMON OTHER UNITS. I just don't know.

I've spoken to the guys I play Warhammer with (not often enough). The unbound rule might as well not exist for all of us.

That's not unbound, that's the normal detachment rules. Unbound is worse, just take 19 lvl 3 psychers for 57 plus D6 power dice.

I don't know the Daemon codex. How do you take that many psykers inside of normal force org?

Wow, the bonuses for picking non-unbound battle hardened for your army are really pathetic. You get to reroll your warlord trait. Yay.

Two Heralds can be taken for each HQ slot. So in a normal 6th edition army their FOC would allow for

4 Heralds of Tzeentch, two units of Horrors.

With 7th you can now take detachments (as I've read it, mind you. I may be way off and there will be a Errata/FAQ which prevents this which will be released shortly after the book released), which are just new sets of FOC's. That means 2 more Troops required, but you can take the 2 allowed HQ, resulting in 4 more Heralds.

Pretty bonkers. Sad part is, I like a lot of the changes. The change to the vehicle damage roll was entirely needed. Shoring up brittle vehicles to merely being vulnerable.

The DakkaDakka community has been analyzing the Malefic powers table for Demons. In one turn of a game - the first turn alone - the Demons player was able to add around 60 models to his ranks. An 1850 point force can quite easily balloon up to nearly 3000 since they can take so many Warp Charges. Really suggests GW did very little actual testing. They need to errata the shit out of that.

Sounds like I'll be focusing on my Grey Knights again. Draigowing just became viable again, and I've already got half the force for it.

It's kinda weird. Even if Grey Knights are on the board I'm not worried they will put up much of a counter to my summoning. The numbers are just so huge a couple shots isn't that big a deal.

It's ridiculous, but for the first time I can say "Well, it's fluffy, might as well forge the narrative."

Well, as a present to myself for getting my health under control, I bought the 7th book(s).

They are beyond gorgeous. I am super ok with getting these beautiful books over the digital copy.

With the new rules would you guys recommend the Dark Vengence box for a new player? I'm not particularly interested in those armies, but at the same time not keen on an $85 rule book + models for a game I don't know how long I'd stick with.

They have a new box set coming out for 7th edition that has Blood Angels and Orks, if you're more interested in them.

Heh, I would suggest playing X-Wing :D

You're going to spend a fortune building an Imperial Guard army. If you don't care about how much you'll need to spend, it's a great way to go.

Damn my aesthetics. Naturally it would lead me to a pricey army. Oh well, at least I'll get a lot of practice at assembling and painting minis.

I've started putting together the squad last night so far I have the sergeant and 1 guardsmen finished, with the rest in various states of completion. I'm hoping to be ready to prime and paint by Saturday.

Oh god what have I gotten into?!

I'm looking forward to playing a game soon, but it will probably be a while. I've been reading over the codex and watching some games and guides on youtube, it looks like fun.

All finished assembling the models. It was an interesting experience. Good thing about this army, I'll be getting plenty of practice at assembling things. Tomorrow I'm heading back the the store to pick up primer and paint for the base coats.

There are some great tutorials on painting out there if you know where to look. From The Warp doesn't update anymore, but it's still one of the best hobby blogs out there. Tale of Painters has some excellent stuff as well. And of course, Youtube has a lot of great stuff.

Awesome. I wish I could take the plunge and splurge on an army. I've been wanting an Ork army for years. Though Krisken's idea for X-wing sounds cool too. I'm hoping Tampa has a decent tabletop community so when I get back I can actually give this all a go.

I just downloaded the Kill Team ebook, and it looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

Here's a quick breakdown:
200 points max
0-2 Troops, 0-1 Elites, 0-1 Fast Attack
No models with 2+ armor saves
No vehicles with a combined armor value of more than 30
Each model acts independently
One model is designated as leader, rolls for a Warlord trait unique to KT
Three models are marked as Specialists, and choose a special skill
Opponents can be routed and sent running if they lose half their forces

Small attack forces, games don't go too long, and the missions in the book look pretty good; it's also pretty easy to develop your own missions

I'm going to build myself a Chaos Kill Team. I just haven't decided what direction to go. Thousand Suns are pricey, but they can wipe out any infantry under these rules. Plague Marines are tough as hell. Noise Marines have a good chance of downing whatever targets they choose. Berserkers can hit hard in close combat. I'm ruling out Khorne, since this game seems to be more shooting based. Either way, Cultists can fill out any remaining points.

Of course, a full Raptor pack might be fast and fun...

I need to pick that up. After I get the rulebook.

Just got back from vacation last night to learn that my cat decided to play with my minis to spite me. She inflicted 3 wounds into the squad I posted above. 2 figures are off their bases, the sergeant is missing his chain sword, and the other two need to have their arms grown back. I should be able to fix up everything with my spare bitz, but the sergeant. I'm also going to need some more bases, as I'm pretty sure the dog decided to help out, both bases are accounted for but chewed up.

I finally got around to taking pictures.

These are the same models I've been posting about above. I've since gotten a lot more stuff, but these guys are the only ones fully painted. I'm pretty pleased with them for my first attempt at painting minis. I took the photos with an iPhone 4s placing them in my homemade woefully under lit light box. There was some cropping and basic touch ups done with Google+'s photo tools.

Panoramic of the squad. I need to get better at photography and pick up more lights for my light box.

Next up is the SGT my dog got a hold of. It took lots of therapy and things won't be the way they once were, but he'll walk again. At some point I'm going to replace his missing chainsword.

And here's some other pictures, spoilered individually for your convenience.
