Man sues wife for being ugly. And wins.

Jian Feng of China insisted that his wife must have cheated on him because he claims he could not have fathered such ugly children. After DNA tests confirmed that the children were his, their mother admitted to having over $100,000 worth of plastic surgery before she and her husband met and continued to keep it a secret.

A judge agreed that Feng was duped into thinking that his wife was beautiful and awarded him $120,000! "I married my wife out of love, but as soon as we had our first daughter, we began having marital issues," Feng reportedly told the Irish Times. "Our daughter was so incredibly ugly, to the point where it horrified me."

I thought I mentioned something like this a loooong time ago regarding evolution, and how plastic surgery would get in the way of it as a process.
Couldn't find the link, though. It was back before Xenforo, I remember that much.

I think I remember you making that post.

The entitled rich.
Depends. Arranged marriage is still a thing in China. If it was an arranged and the bride and her parents didn't disclose that she had significant plastic surgery (probably done to increase her marriage potential), then the groom and his family could have grounds to sue. Unfortunately, physical attractiveness is a commodity when you are talking arranged marriage and the groom's family may feel that they were duped and paid more than they should have.

Highly doubt this was an arranged marriage. That's a practice that has been largely dead since the 20th century. It was more the norm during imperial times. Steinman's assertion is more likely correct: entitled rich---and China sure has em.

Edit: I am going to amend this slightly and say that among very rich families, these is definitely some family pressure to make sure you get married into another rich and powerful family to maximum financial benefit--but then again, where does this not happen? I use to date a rich girl in Tianjin whose father loved hanging out with foreigners. Changed his tune real quick when he found out his daughter was dating one because he feared letting a non-Chinese inherit his logistics company.

That picture up top GasBandit linked isn't an actual picture of the family (although there's a before/after pic of the woman in the article). It's from an ad for plastic surgery in Taiwan.

Is any aspect of this story true? Probably not, as it apparently originated as a single-source item printed in a Chinese newspaper (the Heilongjiang Morning Post) known for publishing urban-legend like tales without verification
IE, the chinese version of the Daily Mail. Welp, fooled me I guess. Well, fooled the Chicago Now blog, which I should have known better than to take at face value anyway.

It's not news that there's a fake news story on the internet, but that @GasBandit was taken in by it. Here's an incredibly astute internet guy who is critical of everything, and he was fooled. It's no wonder more casual users get fooled.
