Interesting cartographer bug, that my can is pretty much transparent :p guess it doesn't do well drawing diamond blocks.

So, I haven't been able to read through the entire thread (I tried, but the slow connection where I'm at, along with the big pictures, made it too frustrating) but is there a multiplayer server that a lot of Halforumites go to? 'Cause I'd love to join in.

Yes, but if your connection is too slow to load the pictures, it might be too slow for SMP... it's not exactly optimized for network. Even at T1 speeds it can load slowly.

Nah, I don't think that'll be a problem. I was just getting work done at a library after dropping off a job application. The connections there aren't exactly what you'd call "good"

I'll check it out!

My base on Ragnar is small at the moment, and well hidden. Primarily because of framerate issues. I found a nice big hill, and tunneled straight down until I hit bedrock. Made sure I had some torches on me, then closed off the shaft securing me deep underground. I've begun excavating a large room to begin with then I'll stretch out in various tunnel systems leading to other areas of the world. And I'm staying entirely under ground. The only times I'll ever resurface is to stock back up on wood for supplies.

Feel free to connect to the tunnel system near Humble Tree....just dont tunnel through wall that have two torches one atop the other...there is lava behind those >.>

Also you can always poke your head up in my under-water glass-domed hut....you are technically not "resurfacing" then.

You should totally make a custom dwarf player skin too :3

You might want to place a monument or at least sign above your area so that we know not to start working in that area, and also so it isn't deleted when the next update comes along and the unused portions of the world are deleted so biomes can take effect elsewhere.

I tried getting on last night to start building some rails in preparation for the patch, but man, I had like 90 seconds of lag! What the heck was going on last night?

Nothing out of the ordinary on my end as far as I know, although I was probably asleep at the time.

Hooray! The new patch is live! ... soon as Noax updates the server exe, Imma be a tracklayin' foo.
Server is updated, but I'm afraid there'll be some maintenance downtime for the next hour or so, in case anyone wonders. Gonna move it back into the closet and try to get rid of some cable clutter.

Edit: Back up again! And I must say I didn't fail as much as usual in arranging the cables :)

Edit 2: ...aaaand of course minecraft.net went down instead. Figures, heh.

Aw hells yeah mofos... Boosters confirmed still working, even in SMP! One little oddity though - a PLACED minecart can no longer be "broken" to be picked back up again... so this will need to entail some rather creative cart storage methods :p

Since basically losing everything on my single player map, I think it's time to make the full time move to the multiplayer server.

Which means it's time to stake out a claim on a real piece of land.

hmm, and they don't seem to work very well if you travel faster than the server can load terrain for you :wtf:

Do I need to redownload Minecraft after this patch? I can still log in to single player stuff but when I attempt to join the multiplayer server it either tells me the client is outdated or I just time out.

The login servers are down. Not much to do but wait.

Ah okay, fair enough. I guess I'll have to wait til after school, probably. Heading out in an hour and a half. :(

Whatever you guys do, don't ride a minecart into unloaded territory... it crashes you, and makes you unable to log back in until the server is rebooted. >_<

Also, I hear tell hitting F4 will now spontaneously create a nether gate, so beware.

Hey if you guys wouldn't mind helping out a noob on the server:

Here is the current location of my little hut. You can kinda see a wooden wall with a torch sticking out of the foliage there.

Anyway, I'm planning on making this server the majority of Minecraft gameplay, but don't wanna have to completely start over. As soon as I can get back on the server, probably not til like 9:30EST, I'm gonna bust down my shed and relocate elsewhere.

IN THE MEANTIME:

If you're feeling generous, please feel free to drop any resources and tools you can spare into my shed. I think I have a large chest in there but I honestly don't know. If not just toss it in or even make me a chest. :) Any help you can spare would go a long way to my making a stand in the Gasbandian wastelands.

So for a while now I've been hearing a bunch of people in #pvponline talking about Minecraft and have been following this thread with interest. Saturday I decided to pick it up on a lark but it wasn't until Sunday that I was able to really get into it. My first two worlds started pretty crappy but my third world has been awesome. There were a few floating islands hovering above a small bay not far from my spawn and I have decided to expand them to make room for a sky castle.

So far I've completed the southeastern tower. It's five stories tall and has a beacon on it for easy nighttime finding.

From the top of the tower here is the view of the east.

The south.

The west.

And the north.

Since completing the tower I've begun expanding the island and laying the foundations for the east wall. In this picture you can see where the east gatehouse will be located as well as the foundation of the northeast tower.

And finally here is a shot of the whole island so far from the ground.

Once I have more work done on the castle my next project will be building a cathedral on my spawn point so that when I die I can be resurrected in a self-aggrandizing church to me!

Dammit Notch! That is going to be such a pain.

Did you not find the chest of supplies I placed near spawn? Or did that get emptied out already? Also, if you're in need of wood, there is a tree farm between your hut and my place, just look for the super dense cluster of trees with torches at their bases. On the south side of the grove is a chest with wood that is free to take. Whenever I harvest I tend to leave about half of what I get in that chest for others.

I think gusto started and plunked down his shack before you put down the newbie chests at the spawn, Pez.

In other news, you can "break" a minecart with flint and tinder (set it on fire), but the resulting cart "item" popping out might also burn up if you don't snag it fast enough or are just unlucky.

If you take anything but a stone pick out of a newbie chest, you're doing it wrong.
Meh, until there are monsters at night that can do damage, I don't care what people find on their own.

On another note, minecarts can still be collected just fine in single player. Woo!

Haha, word, I'll just raid every chest I see on my way to somewhere. ;)
Well, the newbie chest is labeled, and I was going to make a sign for the tree farm chest, but the server was doing funky stuff to me last night. (I got stuck in a loop where the same thing happened over and over and over).
