Minor victory thread

Our union has finally reached a tentative agreement! Our contract expired back in 2014. Two of the main issues were pay and sick leave. Our pay is very good, but it doesn't match industry for our profession especially at lower levels where the gap is large so it can be hard to recruit and retain staff. We got a modest increase that will help. A few years of retro pay will be nice as well :)

The sick leave will be tabled short term so that the rest can be agreed on. The new plan is very unpopular with people who are well and hoard tons of it. For me, the new plan could be great. I used all of mine this summer before LTD and when I go back, I'll have none and depending on when that is, I may have a surgery or two. The new plan will give employees more than enough time to bridge the gap between working and LTD at full pay. There will be no banking time though and to take larger amounts of it, you would need regular medical appointments and Doctor sign offs. I have had coworkers in the past that have abused their sick leave which always frustrated me. I'm relieved that if I need surgery I will have time off for it.

I am on a ton of prescriptions and other than the biologic, I get them all from Shoppers. We went a few weeks back when they were having a reward point redemption and I got a bunch of free makeup and Pokemon cards. Part of the promotion was that I got a bunch of the points back. I went today and used them on a bunch more cards. I have 20 booster packs to open later! And they're all older ones like Primal Clash and Roaring Skies.

And I won an eBay auction for this bad boy :)

We've got hard water..it causes excess mineral build up on the water heater element and shorts it out, so it needs to be tended to every 2-3 years until I can afford a couple grand for a decent water softener for the house.

Last time I called a guy to come out and replace the element, it cost me $200. But I've got eyes, and I watched him do it. Even though tradesmen hate you hovering over them while they work.

Did it myself today for $13.00. I was a bit more thorough than the guy who did it last time--I used a multimeter to confirm which of the 2 elements was bad, rather than pulling them both and eyeballing them like he did. Ain't nobody got time for that.

This week:
110 Christmas hampers for those in need packed and distributed.
150 bulletins and inserts printed, folded, and ready to go.
15 in-office pastoral visits.
13 phone call-based pastoral visits.
2 home visits.
1 hospital service done.
30 mins 'til I'm free (of the office at least) until Jan 3.

Advent/Christmas - it's been fun and busy, but I'm glad it's over!

Finished the big project last week at work that I've been working nights and weekends on since February. Most of the week was quiet and restful.

Felt rejuvenated enough to excise the last chapter of my 3rd book, re-do that chapter completely, and get 80% through of the next one. :D

An employee at Michaels told me that they had a set of coloured pencils on hold for me so we went in to get them. They didn't need to know that we were visiting friends in town as well so when they didn't have them for me, I was able to negotiate a huge discount on another set :). A set with so many pretty pencils!!

Then my sister asked how many I really needed. All of them?

"How many do you really need?" is a question only non-collectors/hoarders ask. No matter if it's about lenses, stamps, glasses, or whatever.

Minor victory: I went and picked up my son from his mom's. It's 105 miles, and should take about 2 hours. With traffic, it always takes 3.5-5 hours each way. I usually leave at 7am, and after chatting time with the ex, I usually am not back until close to 5pm.

I figured people would be back to work today, and I was driving right in the middle of morning rush hour. That usually means back at around 8pm.

2 hours 15 minutes there there, 2 hours 15 minutes back.

woot :)
