Minor victory thread

Rearranged the bedroom! Yay! Wish I had a photo... but I'm not that cool.

I'm trying to give myself crafting space in here so I don't have to take up half the living room anymore. I always feel bad, even though Sara and Mike don't care. Jake however... he barely uses the living room but sometimes complains about the space and the sewing machine noise...

Anyway, happy to have space in here to work on things now where I don't have to worry about cats getting into everything! :3 Also, the bed is now facing the little entertainment center instead of being sideways to it, so when we finally get a TV on it, we will both be able to see! :D Why isn't there a TV there now? Working on saving up money for a better one for the living room for everyone to use and then moving our TV into the bedroom eventually.

So, I just got back from my conference in Niagara Falls where I received a National Young Leaders Award with 4 other fantastic people. Didn't win the $10,000 scholarship unfortunately, but got a few job offers right out of the conference (VP: Service at a fairly large Credit Union in Northern BC).

The best part though is that I've been asked

1) to join a young leaders committee that meets twice a year across Canada, all expenses paid, for a four year term. Next conference is in Halifax, NS.
(My room for this conference ran $1400 a night, check out the view):

2) to put together a Youth Think Tank for BC sponsored by Vancity (Largest credit union in Canada). That means several all expenses paid trips to Vancouver as well as pulling together smart 18-35 year olds from around BC to come up with innovative ideas to problems in the financial industry, in our communities and in our lives.

Nifty :)

Free comic book day was this past Saturday... I drew up a map and wrote down the addresses of my local comic books stores. I planned on walking to all the locations... According to google my trip would take me 2 hours and 42 minutes and I would be walking 13.4 km. Afterward I ended up helping TNG at the comic store he was working at that day...

Anyways, these are the comics I ended up picking up:
1) Worlds of Aspen 2) Atomic Robo 3) The Stuff of Legend/The Intrepid EscapeGoat 4) Thor 5) Greek Street 6) Mouse Guard/The Dark Crystal 7) Elephantment 8) Top 10 Deadliest Sharks/Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Predator 9) Hot Stuff The Little Devil 10) The Overstreet Guide to collecting comics 11) Pep Comics Feat. Betty&Veronica 12) Witch and Wizard 13) Bongo Comics 14) Spiderman 15) Avatar The Last Airbender/Star Wars The Clone Wars 16) The Darkness Confession 17) Godzilla King of The Monsters 18) Franken-Castle 19) Kill Shakespeare 20) Avengers 2 21) Dragon Guard 22) Locke&Key 23) Stephen King The Stand 24) Marvel Zombies Return 25) The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

I think I got a pretty good haul. :awesome: Just wanted to share...

I got a few minor victories!
1) The website is go: www.spencerderek.com I got lots of help from my roommate and his girlfriend today, and I only have a few very minor tweaks to make now. Not sure what's going to become of my blog now.
2) I finished my thesis film. Truth be told its not what I wanted to do with it, but I ran out of studio time, and knew that the longer I wasn't working on it, the less likely I'd come back to finish it. So I finished it quick and dirty.

3) "Sun Day", the film I worked on last year, is getting a lot of attention online. I was worried that attention was starting to die out (It was declining by almost 50% every day for the last few days, but today the views jumped up by more than 500%. Looked it up on google, and it seems that its starting to find a European audience. It got reposted on a few different French and Italian sites today.

So I posted in the rant thread about my computer having a virus a week or so ago. Roommate fixed it for the most part, but there was still some background noise ad thing running randomly... it was strange. Anyway, everything worked fine, save for some random thing playing.
Then a couple days later I turned on the computer, did a quick scan, nothing was infected, went to google then wiki and my computer started freaking out! Another awesome virus. @_@

Well, reason this is in the minor victory thread is because I bought a new computer today. :) It was time for an upgrade anyway because I haven't been able to play games in full screen for at least 2 years (true story!) and something on it has been blocking Portal 2! (Waited until after SakuraCon to play Zeno Clash and Portal, then after Sakura when I was all rested up and ready to play, my computer said f-you.)
Can't wait for it to get here so I can move my files over and finally play my new games!

What anti-virus are you using now?

What anti-virus are you using now?
Just a free one currently since I was stupidly NOT using one. Avast at first then Malwarebytes. Also a CCleaner to see if that would help with whatever was blocking Portal since we reinstalled it.
Going to get a good one for the new computer.

I'd download anything if I could right now, but my current virus is the Vista Security 2011 fake-o thing and it overrides virus scanners and won't let me use any browsers. So I'm going between iPad and Mike's laptop currently until the new computer comes.
We're a little worried about just fixing my computer now because it looks like System32 files were affected in a way that viruses are being let in easily now. So once the computer comes, my roommate is going to fix my computer and move my files off of it for me. And there's nothing in it even worth salvaging haha... I'm happy to be getting a good upgrade finally. :3

Bad news: Keurig coffee maker is in the process of trying to fry itself and take the rest of the house with it.

Good news: It's still under warranty, and Keurig is replacing it for free. I just have to return the K-cup holder from the old one after it arrives.

Finished glazing a ton of my wife's pottery. Everything but 2 pieces fit into the kiln for the firing, which is nice. Hopefully I will get a chance to take pictures of the work before she has to package them up for the festival this weekend in Baraboo, WI.

Ei enää peeeer-sui! Ei enää peeeeeeer-sui! I've got a jar of diii-iiii-iiiirt!

Don't mind me, just celebrating some decent piece of politics in Finland.

Got to peek at the pottery... looking good so far! Depending on how well we do at the festival this Saturday, I may upgrade to full on victory.

Indeed. And we just beat Russia 3-0 to advance to the final of the ice hockey world championships, where we'll face Sweden on Sunday.

So Finland has enjoyed two good pieces of news recently

My concern is that is exactly what he was going for, NR.
Umm... Grammatically that doesn't make any sense. You can't use vittu alone as a verb. Vittuilla, you can, but then the meaning is not 'fucking' but 'mocking'. As a direct translation vittu means 'cunt', but it is used as an all-purpose curse words similar to 'fuck'.

EDIT: Oh hey, I can't use the c-word apparently; instead it's turned into 'smelly lady part'. Good, I was worried about that just a bit.

Yeah, I couldn't have known all that without actually knowing the language. I honestly didn't care enough about the joke to study a whole language and make it work somehow.

Smelly lady part, eh?

We can't type.... cunt? Hilarious. But now if I ever get really outraged at any of you, my pinnacle-of-English-swearing has been denied, while the Finns get to run around uncensored!

HMPH.
