I just think it's more fun to have everyone reveal their lists at the same time, and I think numbered lists are a bit more interesting. :3you know what? have fun with your little thread. I am sooooo sorry i didn't need your help to figure how to make a list of movies i like.
Geez
Please understand that while you interpret the view of films as art to be snobbery, some might interpret your point of view to be anti-intellectualism. Each list is that person's own list, based one whatever criteria they choose to apply. Your list can be full of films you find entertaining, but that criteria isn't going to apply to everyone's, nor should they feel obligated to follow that. Feel free to discuss other people's lists and express what you think of them, but be prepared to defend your own list. I want the thread to have friendly discussion so these different priorities and criteria should provide plenty of fodder for that.I hope lists are the movies that entertained you the most, movies you will sit and watch when they come up during channel surfing. I'd rather not see a list of "important" movies (film snobbery) that "advance the art of film," unless it actually entertained you, and not a movie that you only needed to see once.
I know that Kissinger and I are considered some hydra monster of similar opinions, but I can guarantee you our lists will be very different. We did a similar top 25 movies of all-time list (OH MY GOD I LOVE MAKING LISTS) and I think 2 at the MOST crossed over between us. Maybe only 1.With the diversity of people on this board, I feel very confident that the Top Ten lists will be incredibly varied.
Damnit. I knew I was forgetting some good ones. Gah.Bubba Ho-tep
Downfall (Der Untergang)
you can't stop the signalA top 20 would be easier, but that's not the point! Top 10 is pretty standard, and it's also hard and makes you really think about your choices.
I guess since everyone is posting their lists anyway, people can keep doing so. Not like I can stop that. Oh well! If everyone is having fun, I'm not going to worry about it.
Mickey Rourke gave an amazing performance, but that's it for me. I thought he was fantastic. I still think he should have been the Oscar winner. I didn't really care for the movie though. It was okay, and the story was a bit meh. I think Mickey really lived that role, and that's why his acting was so superb. I like Aronofsky, but this was his weakest movie, IMO (it wasn't a bad movie, just not great). The Wrestler!! Can't believe I forgot about that one, it's on my big list as well.
Last Samurai is probably overrated. I haven't seen it since it came out, and I think I only saw it on TV. Hot Fuzz is a really great action-comedy-buddy cop movie that is just a ridiculously tightly-edited movie. Some of Charlie's list is in my "no fucking way" folder or the folder of "it was good, but the best of the decade...?"
The Last Samurai, for example, was a blatant attempt at Oscar trolling. Hot Fuzz was a great movie but not one of the best of the decade. Same with Road to Perdition.
I do like seeing some of the movies people like, though.
So not today then. :humph:You should give it another try. It's really well done. Watch it when you're not a fatigued crabbypants.
Road to Perdition is totally fantastic. It should be on my list. I fail. I can't think of one negative thing about that movie. You should give it another try. It's really well done. Watch it when you're not a fatigued crabbypants.
Maybe for Cruise, but that's about it. And it was damn sure a lot more subtle about Oscar trolling than Milk or that movie where Charlize Theron got fat instead of them just hiring a fat actress. The Last Samurai, for example, was a blatant attempt at Oscar trolling.
This....I have no words. It's clearly just a comedy column with no actual substance to it.
so, what's life like having never seen Rain Man, Jerry Maguire, Born on the 4th of July, Risky Business, Magnolia, or A Few Good MenMy favourite Tom Cruise movie is Minority Report.

What, HEY!, NO. It was a billion times more interesting, visually cool, smart, and witty than anything Bay has shit out.Yeah, but Minority Report was okay--even with Spielberg doing a Michael Bay impression.

Minority Report is flippin' awesome in my book. I think Cruises best is Collateral. He's a total badass in that.My favourite Tom Cruise movie is Minority Report.

Any English translation yet?-Red Cliff - Another one no one will agree with, but watching the legendary battle of Chi Bi, as directed by John Woo, was absoutely breath-taking
The copy that I saw at a friend's house had English subtitles that were supposedly pretty accurate.Any English translation yet?-Red Cliff - Another one no one will agree with, but watching the legendary battle of Chi Bi, as directed by John Woo, was absoutely breath-taking
Check out the #1 on their list. I'm a fucking genius. The A.V. Club posted it's list of the 50 best films of the decade. It's pretty interesting! The list that I'm preparing shares several items with theirs. Frankly, though, I'd like to see some lists from the individual film writers, rather than a collaborative list. Here's the list
I hope those of you who haven't posted are working hard on your lists!
But most of those films were not popular. We all know the buying public is what matters in concerns of taste. The A.V. Club posted it's list of the 50 best films of the decade. I was just going to post this. Interesting list. Now I really have to see Spirited Away. The A.V. Club posted it's list of the 50 best films of the decade. It's pretty interesting! I wish I'd have seen some of them. I like the way they gave a synopsis of each one. It's also worth noting that the first comment in the HUGE comment thread is from Scott Tobias (the best of the film staff imo) giving his personal top ten. I ain't readin through that entire fucking thread to find if the other folks posted theirs, but here is Mr. Tobias' list:
1. 25TH HOUR
2. IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE
3. BEFORE SUNSET
4. YI YI
5. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND
6. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
7. THERE WILL BE BLOOD
8. ZODIAC
9. DOGVILLE
10. WALL-E
Well, it is the only movie on the list that couldn't possibly be underrated.Eternal Sunshine is massively overrated.
I know, there's all that weird shit that doesn't make sense and Jim Carrey doesn't fart or hump an inanimate object onceEternal Sunshine is massively overrated.

I like 25th Hour, and I don't usually like Spike Lee movies. Ed Norton is pretty great in it. Although, I don't get the major love for the movie. Nice movie, but not great, IMO.I wanna see 25th Hour and Before Sunset since I continually see them pop up on shit like this, and I feel left out
What about Downfall? I really liked Conspiracy, but Downfall was fantastic.1. Conspiracy (2001)
I just want to take this opportunity to let everyone know that THIS IS PERFECTLY OKAY. No one who doesn't get paid for it would have the time to see all 5000+ movies that have come out in the past 10 years, and even those that do get paid for it have trouble. Just think about the movies that stood out to you.I totally haven't seen some important films I probably should have
I am going to do the exact same thing, but mine will be better and coolerI'm settling in to my top 10. Once I finalize it, I'm going to make some really cool header images and start writing about them. You dudes will get a POST when January comes.
