I agree, in particular with the Director's Cut edition. For me it's Kingdom of Heaven. It seems like every person who say it felt pretty negative about it but I thought it was really good. I bought the Blue-Ray and watched the "no cut version" where apparently it ran too long for theaters but the missing 35 minutes added a lot of meat to the story... and I can see how it affected people's opinions.... but I love the movie.
It's so well written.
Watched twice. Gorgeous film. You and I actually overlap on preferences a lot, though. If I spoke up more, it would be "MD doesn't like anything".I have a bunch of these. Recently, I really liked the new Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It was beautifully shot, and I was hoping it would lead to people giving Ben Stiller more of an opportunity with serious stuff and with directing. It seemed to fall on deaf audience ears, though. I wonder if it's because I saw a screener--maybe they cut some things I really liked before it went to theaters.
I loved it, even in the theater. It came out right when I was in the middle of my DAOC phase. When they blew that hole in the wall, I practically wanted to shout "OK, all PBAOE casters spam that hole! Tanks form a shield wall! Go go go go go!"[DOUBLEPOST=1457458885,1457458729][/DOUBLEPOST]As for myself, the answer seems to be "The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions." I think the first Matrix movie set the bar so high that people were expecting the sequels to be even that much better than the original, when really, if you view all 3 movies back to back to back you can see it's really one long movie cut into 3 parts of roughly equivalent quality, abarring unfortunate casting changes brought on by actor death and contract dispute. For me it's Kingdom of Heaven. I agree that it was one movie, but we'll have to disagree about the "equivalent" part. I still feel like it suffered from "are we done yet?" like a D&D campaign that has gone on all night until it's 5am and everyone just wants to get to the end already.if you view all 3 movies back to back to back you can see it's really one long movie cut into 3 parts of roughly equivalent quality, abarring unfortunate casting changes brought on by actor death and contract dispute.
There are people who don't like The Fifth Element?I'm also going to add The Fifth Element to my list. I know I'm among people here who probably liked it, but when I talk about it with other people, it's like they miss the humor entirely and think it's a bad Sci-Fi movie, or else they only focus on the humor and think that it's trying to be too serious.
Yes.There are people who don't like The Fifth Element?
That movie has a literal space Hitler in it. How can you not love a movie with space Hitler?Yes.
There are people who think Milla Jovovich is the only good part of that movie.
They are wrong. Very, very wrong.

For you, the day Street Fighter graced your cinema was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday.Street Fighter. A lot of people seem to miss the fact that it's camp is mostly deliberate.
The camp in Inspector Gadget was intentional, too...but I notice nobody is adding that movie to this list.Street Fighter. A lot of people seem to miss the fact that it's camp is mostly deliberate.
Okay, I'm going to dig into this one. Putting Godzilla movies on their own scale apart from non-kaiju films, there are mostly good to fantastic ones, but a few are awful. Godzilla's Revenge, Godzilla vs Hedorah, the 1998 American movie ... and it seems every Godzilla fan has at least one shitty Godzilla movie that they love just as much as the great ones, even though every other Godzilla fan hates it.How many Godzilla movies shall I list?
Man I love Last Samurai. Cruise is great, Watanabe is great, and the locations are beautiful. I still get goosebumps from the last 10 or so minutes and their final lines.Next one for me would be "The Last Samurai". Sure, Tom Cruise as a person is someone suspect but he's an accomplished actor and I think this was one of his best roles.
Firstly, I love anything medieval... but the Sengoku period is my 2nd all-time fav (romance of the three kingdoms being the first.) Yes, I understand this movie took place during the final stages of the Meiji period but I like to pretend.... beautiful cinematography and sets/costume design. The score is one of my all-time favorites ('The Final Charge' still sends shivers my way) by my favorite composer. Tom Cruise plays his part well and is supported by an incredible cast. Ken Watanabe is king.
Storyline is great and very respectful to the Japanese culture and provides you a bittersweet ending that after the first time, made me leave the cinema with tears in my eyes and it still happens on my viewings.
I've seen this movie twice a year and make sure I do so whenever release date comes by.
I'd proudly state it's one of my TOP 5 movies of all-time.
So underrated and people disliked it so much for something so insignificant as the Actor's personal life.
The only way you couldn't like Wall-E is if you were suffering from a brain cloud.Wall-E.
Oh, wait. This is movies you LIKED that other people hated, not the other way around.
Joe Versus the Volcano. Fucking love that movie.
Or if you're a scientist. The only way you couldn't like Wall-E is if you were suffering from a brain cloud.
I'll second this, even after reading the comics and acknowledging that Matt Ryan was the perfect person to play Constantine.Constantine. I never read the comics, so I thought the movie was decent. I loved Tilda Swinton as Gabriel. I thought Keanu Reeves was good. I liked that Constantine and Angela didn't kiss despite a few scenes where I know in any other movie they'd have torn off each other's clothes.
I won't defend it. It's not critically acclaimed/award winning. The acting wasn't deserving of more recognition. It didn't have a deep meaning. I just liked it.
I'm going to go hide now before I'm flogged.
Ha ha ha, oh god, I remember that trailer.Ravenous for me. The soundtrack is glorious and the story is delightfully weird. Plus, it has one of the worst fucking trailers of all time.
They used White Zombie's Boogieman as the background music in it.

I liked this movie, too. It followed one of the comic plots reasonably well. Keanu wasn't the greatest casting choice, and his Constantine was waaay too serious, but it was still a good watch.Constantine. I never read the comics, so I thought the movie was decent. I remember thinking the movie was okay, but holy crap does it pale in comparison to the book. I'm not usually one to jump to "the book was better", but seriously, the movie leaves the most important thematic points of the book by the wayside.Kevin Costner in The Postman
I liked it too, having no familiarity with the character at the time. It's a terrible HellBlazer adaptation, but standing by itself, it's a decent enough movie.Constantine. He's the psychiatrist in Until Dawn, and all I could keep thinking about through the whole game is "Don't trust that guy, he's Lucifer!"Peter Stormare's Lucifer in that movie was 10/10 also. First thing I remember seeing him in, and he's always been the best super-creep in everything since.
Yeah he's shown up in a lot of stuff I've watched and every time it's the same "THIS GUY'S THE DEVIL DON'T LISTEN TO HIM!"He's the psychiatrist in Until Dawn, and all I could keep thinking about through the whole game is "Don't trust that guy, he's Lucifer!"
Wow, I completely forgot about that. He was excellent.Peter Stormare's Lucifer in that movie was 10/10 also. First thing I remember seeing him in, and he's always been the best super-creep in everything since.
Best part of the game. My wife and I ate up every one of his scenes. He's the psychiatrist in Until Dawn, and all I could keep thinking about through the whole game is "Don't trust that guy, he's Lucifer!"
Oh, this reminds me, I also liked Return of the Killer Tomatoes.I just love how the movie poked fun at the whole logistics, materialism and product placement conspiracy
Cloud Atlas is one I know a lot of people hated. I found audiences were split almost exactly 50/50. If you liked it, you loved it. If you didn't like it, you hated it. Very little grey area there. Me? I loved it and I happily own a BluRay copy.
Yep. No grey area at all. You either love it or you hate it. I'm sure there are other movies just as divisive, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.I haven't seen it but from what I can tell, you either think Cloud Atlas was one of the best movies of the last few years or hate it with every fiber of your being.
...which reminds me of another movie I've seen that fits this thread: Dead Heat (1988). Oh, the science is completely wrong and inconsistent on soooo many counts, but I still liked it enough to see it in the theater.I thought the fact that they desperately wanted Harrison Ford but couldn't get him to say yes and so got Treat Williams instead but told him to act Harrison-Ford-y was hysterical.
They did, it was called The Matrix...which reminds me of another movie I've seen that fits this thread: Dead Heat (1988). Oh, the science is completely wrong and inconsistent on soooo many counts, but I still liked it enough to see it in the theater.
And also there's that movie I most recently mentioned in the trailer thread, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. I thought it was fascinating, and I'd love for someone to do an even better treatment of it someday.

Similar conditions, but much different motivation and result. They did, it was called The Matrix
A lot of people consider the no cut version to be really good.[DOUBLEPOST=1457792637,1457792248][/DOUBLEPOST]As for me:For me it's Kingdom of Heaven. Yes, No, No, YES!, Yes!, No, HELL NO.As for me:
Grown Ups 1 and 2
Corky Romano
Son in Law, Encino Man, Biodome, and In the Army Now (I fucking love Paulie Shore movies)
Horror/Dark Comedy.I'm assuming this was a...comedy?
Uncut version explains why but as far as true siege warfare goes, it was pretty bad.... but so pretty to watch though.Horror/Dark Comedy.
I liked Kingdom of Heaven, but I didn't care for Orlando Bloom's character who grew up a blacksmith knowing advanced siege engineering and teaching everyone how good he is at siegecraft. It seemed really mighty whitey.
Jeremy Irons was fucking awesome in it.
