No Bad Guys Named Dave.

Dave

Someone pointed out to me today that there are no bad guys in movie, TV, or literature named Dave. How about you? You have a name that is or can be used as a villain?

That someone was wrong.

I can't think of any villain named Lisa in a movie. Of course, there's this:

Dave

Dave

A Gargoyles bad guy? Seriously, I had to look him up. He hardly counts.

#6

fade

Well. I guess if you don't count one of the most popular American action cartoons of all time, and a villain so popular people still won't shut up about him. One of the biggest tropes on TVtropes is named after his signature "I knew this was going to happen all along" bit.

Yes. And it was really, really, really good.

I didn't see enough Gargoyles cartoons as a kid. They came around about the sunset of my ability to watch cartoons.
Also, I'm not so sure about villain, exactly.

It came out in 1994. I was married, had 2 kids, was going to school, and working two jobs. Forgive me if I didn't watch a cartoon. :pwn:

Not many bad guys named Bruce. Most guys named Bruce are pretty awesome.

David Banner from the 2003 Hulk film. Which also ties into awesome Bruce's for @figmentPez

It's also supposedly getting a film reboot from Disney some time in the next few years, now that they know it can pay to be risky.

Well...if you want to nitpick, the statement was about villains named Dave, not David. I know it is a nitpick, but there is something to be said for the meaning given between naming someone the more casual Dave or the more formal David.

Actually, Jack Burton does call Lo Pan "Dave" at one point, so :p

(EDIT: I double-checked: Jack calls him Dave a couple of times, so my point still stands! )

I needed a little help with this, but here you go.

Incidentally, I couldn't find any villains with my name (well, one came close, but it's spelled differently and short for Evelyn), but I did find out there's a game called Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective where one of the main characters is a redhead with the less-common, shared spelling of my name. Weird.

Nick Nack (you could be forgiven for thinking there were K's at the beginning of both names) in Man With the Golden Gun. Played by Herve Villechaize (Eh boss, de plane, de plane)[DOUBLEPOST=1414106852,1414106622][/DOUBLEPOST]Also apparently the movie Double Jeopardy (1999) had a villain named Nicholas.

In the back of my head, I swear I can recall some dialogue with a bad guy named Dale, but I can't remember from what. For all I know, it could have been a one-episode jerk from a tv series. This is going to bug me!

Regarding Dave, I am reminded of this column by Dave Barry, who was bitter about Phillip Morris naming a cigarette line "Dave's".

http://www.miamiherald.com/living/liv-columns-blogs/dave-barry/article1937841.html

"The message is that "Dave's" is a folksy brand of cigarette, produced by a down-to-earth, tractor-driving guy named "Dave" for ordinary people who work hard and make an honest living, at least until they start coughing up big folksy chunks of trachea."

I know a girl in real life called Evelyn. Beautiful girl, very intelligent and witty, and enjoying a very successful career so far. She's also pure evil. I call her Evilyn. Seriously, she's evil. But in that dark, seductive, you-wouldn't-really-believe-me-capable-of-doing-that type of way.

Ok, I exaggerate, she's not pure evil. She's just a bit evil. Or moderately evil. Maybe just very evil on special occasions.

Point is... Evilyn. Yeah.

Well, there's Holly Summers in No More Heroes, or depending on how you want to look at it, Holly Would in Cool World. You could say she's a femme fatale, but that could be considered a villain. Her whole reason d'etre was "it's all about what I want and screw how it hurts anyone else!".

Man, It has been so long since I saw Cool World. I saw it when I was a kid. My parents thought it would be just as good as Roger Rabbit. They were so, so wrong.

That was the first time the realized that some cartoons aren't for kids.

Heh, my first though was John McClane's ex wife, but I guess that she's not TECHNICALLY a villain. :p

"it's all about what I want and screw how it hurts anyone else!".
Rowr. Er, anyway, yeah Holli Would is definitely Cool World's villain. The screwing was just a means to an end - she only got hot and bothered for 'noids because she was obsessed with becoming one.

But yeah.

Now that I'm an adult, I should revisit Cool World. I haven't seen it since I was a teenager, and I hated it then.

Yeah, it's a pretty bad film and not what Ralph Bakshi originally envisioned. His original idea was a horror film where a human man and cartoon woman have sex, then give birth to a half-human/half-toon being who hates its existence and wants to kill them.
