[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Nothing says he's a better person by trying to seduce a married woman.

If there is 0 common interest, there is not going to be a lasting relationship.

I do like that his idea of gaming is Angry Birds.

MightyGodKing once again tears apart PVP, this time Dylan's arc. And I'm having a hard time disagreeing with a lot of it. Though I've also been there, trying to date non-geeks and it just didn't work.
Honestly, I think MightyGodKing may need to do a little refresher reading of the archives (if they ever come back online) if he thinks that Marcy (and why does he keep spelling her name Marcie?) is a "relatively normal person who happens to be into some nerdy things like video games," an assertion upon which his entire rant seems to be based. Marcy has always been every bit as much a nerd as Francis. She contemplated going pro on the gaming circuit. She was just as excited to get into the Diablo 2 Beta as Francis was. She and Jade had a girls only gaming group that went to one of the cons and beat the guys. She once went to a computer-based summer camp, until the campers got bored and hacked the head counselor's computer, exposing his info and getting the place shut down. She's always been happy to get in on the office's D&D games when Cole's running them. And the list goes on. Except, you know, I can't find more of it because of the site hack. This sort of devotion to all things gaming doesn't bespeak a "normal person with a few nerdy pursuits" to me.

I have to agree. Marcy is as nerdy as they come. And MGK apparently doesn't get out much if he thinks that there aren't people, even relatively young people, who don't care enough about Star Wars or Star Trek to really know which is which. I ran into one at the fucking premiere of the reboot (brought by a date, apparently).

And he really needs to get out more if he thinks that everyone who goes to Grad School for anything is a blanket catch-all kind of nerd.

Yeah... that's a pretty bad generalization. It's not even just a broad generalization, it's and incredibly flawed generalization.

Hell, I have a friend who plays the shit out of any computer game he can get his hands on, reads fantasy and sci-fi in multiple languages and can pretty much make a working gaming platform out of an early '90s computer, duct tape, a can of beans and a small aubergine... and yet he's never seen a single Star Wars movie. Nor does he have any desire or inclination to do so.

The solution to this is duct-tape, a chair, and those eye clamp deals from Clockwork Orange.

"The response we've gotten this week has been nothing short of mind-blowing. When you debut a new comic or website you try to manage expectations. Basically, you try not to get your hopes up. I'm terrible at not getting my hopes up. Lucky for me, those hopes were not dashed. They were whatever the opposite of dashed is.
Our Facebook community is amazing. Twitter is nothing but thousands of virtual high-fives. Every tale submitted is better than the last. Thanks to everyone for spreading the word, sharing links, talking us up and letting us know how much you like what we're doing here. Keep it up!"

Looks like a critical flop if the amount of commentary from Facebook is any indication. A collective "Zzzz" from the public.

I dunno... Star Wars Vs Star Trek conflict is pretty dated to the point of being irrelevant.

Or are there hordes of costumed geeks out there still keeping the battle alive that i'm just not aware of?

Yeah, it's an old joke but this is probably the best time to bring it up. This is basically a once-in-a-lifetime convergence event in the realm of space nerds.

I do have to agree with that article that at this point, someone who doesn't know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek is so far out of the pop culture loop that I'd be surprised if they know the difference between anything pop culture related, not just nerd related.

My girlfriend did not know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars. Both were "science fiction worlds/stories I'm not interested in". You'd be surprised at how many people don't know. Yes, she misses some jokes in some series; no, it doesn't bother her (though yes, I'm force-feeding her Star Wars). I'm pretty sure her parents wouldn't even know they're two different things, let alone the difference.
