[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Still stunk though. I mean it's kinda funny cos he was sort of making fun of himself, but it still felt like a waste of a reader's time.
That can be said of a lot of PvP, and hell, a lot of web comics in general. I can't remember the last time I found any of the comics on my daily reading list to be genuinely funny/amusing/engaging/worth reading.

I think Starslip's getting more focused again, now that Straub plans to end it by the year's end.

Also, I ran across something in the pvp archive today. Guess who lolbat most certainly is NOT:

That was my thought as well. Honestly, I like the "butlers are actually the super heroes" twist, I just don't dig Robbie's Butler being LOL Bat.
Yeah, it felt kind of forced didn't it? It's a really interesting concept, but for Lolbat it feels like Kurtz did too much work.

If I remember correctly, Butler's first name is actually Butler. I couldn't find the comic where that was posted.

If he wanted it to work, He should have first established that lolbat was part of the same universe as the rest of the cast (like, have him show up in the same comic as Cole or something) so that the transition wasn't that dramatic. I actually might have liked the revelation, then.

Bloom. Can't stand it in video games either. What's next, will everything else be blurry and it will be called depth of field? Oh! I know, the very top of the panel will gradient darker the higher you go, and it will be called vignette.

Bleh.

And then, everything will be brown.

Be it video game realism or fake nostalgia makeup for your photos, it's amazing how much "my camera/technology/photography skill is so shitty, let's call it art" holds sway... and then gets artificially reinforced. Bloom? Bad lighting. Depth of Field? Bad staging. Vignette? Cheap camera. Brown? Obsolete/substandard film.

Is it just me or does Lucille's motive for helping out the PvP gang seem a little... off?

At first she tells Francis she won't help.
Then she agrees to help but insinuates that the price Francis will have to pay will be dire.
Then she says she needs Cole for his heart.
And what's this legacy crap now? I thought she was an exec at Wizards of the Coast, or is that just her way of "slumming it" when not taking Scrooge McDuck-style dips in her massive bank vault?

I think this strip makes her motivations perfectly clear to me. She doesn't have a family. She has none she can trust with her legacy once she kicks it.

If this is going where it seems to be going, she seems to have a soft spot for Francis and sees something in him. Her denial of him at first could have been her either (a) attempting to get him to fix things for himself/take control or (b) her seeing how much he wanted this done.

The dire price Francis will have to pay is being her 'ward'.

Cole is Francis' father figure so she knows she just can't let him sit around in a coffee place. It would be demoralizing to Francis.

At least, that's my theory.

Because Kurtz thinks nothing through ahead of time. He just introduces stuff and writes for it as he goes.

Look at the proof earlier of Butler and that kid and the Lolbat thing.
