[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Eh the Patreon stuff seems whatever to me. It’s his comic and I don’t think it’s worth it, but if he wants to monetize whatever people would pay to read the old ones that seems fine. At least he’s not promising any new content that won’t get delivered.

I really think everything just went out of him, and since his actions chased away those who might help pick him back up again, he's just stayed in that pit ever since.

I just read his Table Titans Club book. It's filled with humor and some genuinely warm and human moments. It reminds me of classic PVP. Teh Kurtz still has the ability to make great stuff when he applies himself.
I'm honestly glad to hear that, if he's moved on from PvP but still doing stuff I'm okay with it.

We wouldn't be a community if we hadn't been brought together originally by our love of the stories Kurtz told. He's got genuine talent.

His TIMELINESS, however...

The book is meant for middle grade readers (8-12 years old). My oldest nephew is nearly four, meaning I won't have anyone to share it with for at least four years. It still made me laugh out loud while my wife looked at me like I was a crazy person. Given how fast Kurtz works, maybe the sequel will be published before my nephew is in high school? In all seriousness, the book is enjoyable from start to finish and I can't wait to read it to my younger relatives (and hopefully my own kids) when they're old enough.

I just noticed that PvP's archives are no longer paywalled behind Patreon, so I've been doing some reading of the archives.

Y'know, it might just be the nostalgia talking, or maybe I just have a really juvenile sense of humor, but I really do find some of the early strips quite funny. Like this one.

The sheer absurdity of Skull attracting a seeing-eye dog with a sandwich, culminating in a confused blind man standing in the PvP offices? Yeah, that's funny.

WOO-thank goodness, I understand needing a profit, but paywalls for stuff that was originally FREE are always annoying, especially old strips. ESPECIALLY old strips, how the hell am I supposed to figure out if I like a webcomic if the damn archive has a paywall behind it?! Its one thing to do it for new strips, but old? Nuh uh.

I still sincerely like old PvP comics.
I'm sure lots of us did. It was one of the reasons nearly all of us came together in a forum in the first place. Though I understand some people have trouble reconciling that with hating what Kurtz did with it, or how much of a douche he seemingly became when he saw some success. (Of course, I have no idea if he was douchey before then).

I like Orson Scott Card's older books. I still think the man's an insufferable jackass.
