Looks like sometimes Scott does listen to the fans. We all know Jade has been kind of... droopy recently, but first thing I noticed the minute I saw today's comic was he is trying something different with her. Have to admit, she looks a lot better now.
I feel this is the kind of position that can teach me a big word that means "getting eaten alive by a boa constrictor"

It was Miranda's new appearance that made me wonder for a moment whether she was a new character.

I miss the character of Reggie.

Looking at it again, one reason why I like the new design is that it brings back Jade's newer old eyes (not the oldest design, the one after it), where the lids were always a little closed. I missed that.

Ahhhh, Jade... Back on my list of comic characters I'd schtoink.
Honestly, though, the improvement is massive. She actually looks beautiful and self-assured again, instead of some old harridan who hasn't had her coffee in weeks.
Also, is there an opening for an animesque artist in this new studio?

Can I join your guy's studio?
I wanna fit in...

Word.
But I'm running out of cubicles here. D:

I want in, too. But don't worry about a cubicle for me. A corner of the room where I can sit with my laptop is good enough for me!
Notice how Frank Cho is able to draw Jade properly? Did you see how he's able to do hair so much nicer than Scott can? I grow tired of seeing Jade's eyebrow superimposed on her hair.

I never noticed her hair in that comic.

The idea of wanting to...what's the word...schtoink a comic character is a bit disturbing to me.
I like Jade's expression in the most recent comic

Hey other male cartoonists: have you ever given yourself a boner drawing boobs? If your answer is no you're lying
Soooo... It's disturbing to feel a little aroused by a drawing of a sexy woman?
Also, people who say they'd schtoink Minnie Mouse or something... THOSE guys are disturbing.
There's a pretty big difference between being aroused and wanting to schtoink. Being aroused by Jade? Maybe Frank Cho's version of Jade...but even then, I wasn't anywhere close to the mindset of "I'll be in my bunk".
And you're right about the Minnie Mouse thing...that is far more disturbing to me.
There was one that was pure comedy though. The first one (if I'm not mistaken, I'm not interested in browsing that mage again) that looks made in MS paint.
Make sure you add 'perianal' to that query. An ex had one of those. Messy.
Also, I was much more disturbed by the pictures of Donald than anyone else. Just the idea of that machine-gun laugh/rant he has was enough to give my imagination enough ammo to wince a few times.

I too like to invest my emotion in things that are real, and not some bizarre fantasy of fucking cartoon characters.

If you're telling me watching Heavy Metal back in the 80s didn't titillate you even in the slightest, you're a damn liar.

I still don't get it. It's the woman and the sexuality it represents. If you want to get technical, it's no less "real" than a photograph. Do those get you excited?

This is the part where he says at least a photograph is an image of something that IS real. Seriously, didn't we JUST have this discussion in 2007?

Personally, I like drawn depictions of sex often times more then photographs, as they allow freedom to create imagery that is fantastical and often times more aesthetically pleasing. Though, that does not mean I would pick a drawn image of sex over actual sex or live nudity, I don't think anyone is that silly.

But, so are the aspects of the drawing that evoke sexual feelings.
Yeah, I've noticed the discussions cycle a lot here.

Or paintings for that matter. Good art (including statues, etc..) is even supposed to invoke feelings and emotions. And yes, sometimes even arousal. But even the most realistic paintings are still painted globs on a canvas. Nothing like the real thing.
Or hell, porn.. It's still a flat 2D screen (usually) you are watching it on. People you don't even know. How SICK!
Thanks to the both of you for putting the matter so eloquently. That's pretty much how I view these things. Liberty Meadows, Heavy Metal (the old one, not the crappy remake), certain European comics (eg. Druuna), Jade's new design in PvP... seriously, those are some quite beautiful drawn women.
Also, people take me way too seriously. I just like to take these moments to promote the use of the word "schtoink" It's gonna be the next big thing, you'll see!

That's true. Especially considering that truly aesthetic photography of the nude female form tends to get swamped in the sea of bad porn. Frank Cho's already been mentioned, and I admit finding his work... invigorating.
And tell them to stop sending Spy vs Spy to rub me off! I've had to throw their unconscious asses out of the house twice already this week! Those guys just can't work together.
Seriously, apparently Scott should have moved in with the P-A guys years ago.
Does anyone here doubt that this is exactly the reason why his art is improving?
Well, it's certainly not his fans and readers who are offering constructive criticism about his craft.

Somewhere in the Google is Scott's portrait of Jade in full wedding WOW! That was as awesome a picture as I'd ever seen from him. I wonder what he could do with her current look as a similar work.

I think he's also defensive about it because this is the exact same complaint that he's often had about Buckley's work in the past (though this last year, the CAD art and story telling has improved to the point where I've moved it into my daily rotation)

I think the Rolling Stone cover in today's, shows, even more so, that he's clearly putting more time and effort into the art..

That's pretty common in comics now anyway, it's lame but hell most major publishers have artists who base characters off actors. Many a time Norman Osborne has been Tommy Lee Jones, and the Wanted comic pretty much starts Eminem.
As for improvement, unless it's a drastic change in style 9 times out of 10 it's going to be subtle and gradual over the course of a lot of work. It also comes with trying new things with your style, and unfortunately that's hard for any working artist since fans are pretty stubborn when it comes to change.
