Redhead good, ginger bad?

This is something that keeps coming up when I read or listen or watch anything made State-side. There seems to be a tremendous amount of sexual fascination with redheads (particularly redheaded women). Yet at the same time, there seems to be this almost racist or superstitious fear and loathing towards gingers. Even more so than with blondes: everybody wants to shtupp a blonde like the fist of an angry god, but then there's the whole notion of blondes being stupid. With the whole redhead-ginger thing it's even more extreme. To say that someone's a redhead brings up immediate sexual connotations. Case in point: Kari Byron.

Or how about Christina Hendricks?
Who is, in fact, a natural blonde but dyes her hair red.

Or perhaps Alyson Hannigan?

Hell, what about Karen Gillan?

Hot redheads, one and all, and definitely sex symbols.

But if you would call someone a ginger... well, then we get this:

Can someone please explain this to me?

I think South Park is almost wholly responsible for the anti-ginger sentiments that run so very rampant. At least - most of the more recent sentiments. Stupid does beget stupid.

The ginger thing is really just kind of a running gag, like Canadians being super polite or something.

Also, gingers are not the same as redheads. Being considered a ginger includes freckles, more pale skin, and a more "carrot" shade of red. Many of the redheads that guys lust after have the more auburn shade of red.

Still, most people aren't serious about the whole ginger-bashing thing. It's just another stupid joke that's been worn out. And people who really mean it are doing us all a favor by singling themselves out as chronically stupid.

Yeah, thank goodness South Park gave the internet that stupid stereotype cuz NOW THE INTERNET LURRRVSSS TO MAKE THAT JOKE

but yeah I bet this all goes back to the age-old anti-Irish thing.

The anti-ginger thing has existed for quite some time in the UK. I'm assuming that it stemmed, as previously stated, from the anti-irish sentiment.

Yeah, as has been said, prejudice against gingers is done purely as a joke. It's not a serious sentiment at all.

And while we're on the subject:

I do admit, the Chinese girls that walk around as red heads are quite attractive to me.

Even though I know it's all dyed.

I find it very interesting how differently I'm treated by people as a redhead (currently) vs. a blonde (natural.) Gotta love dem stereotypes.

I tried blonde once, long ago, and yeah, people do treat you differently. It's saddeningly hilarious.

The makeup helps a "bit" but yeah, no.

Alyson Hannigan annoys the hell out of me. I could not find someone that constantly does that whiney/squeeky voice all the time attractive.

Oh, come on. Most celebrities -- most women, in fact -- aren't nearly so attractive by society's standards without makeup. I'm pretty sure every single women in OP's post would drop at least 2-3 points on the hotness scale if they didn't have painted faces.

Talking about my standards. And makeup usually doesn't replace the missing upper lip.

I remember one year Alyson Hannigan placed higher than Sarah Michelle Gellar in FHM's sexiest women list. It caught a lot of people off guard.

Yeah, Alyson Hannigan's hot, but Sarah Michelle Gellar is in an entirely different league. Especially in Cruel Intentions :Leyla:
