Well, yeah. But I think it'd be interesting to see the die-hard ultra-conservative base he's trying to win over start to come up with weird excuses as to why they're not going to vote for him now.

(or more likely... that comment will be completely ignored by everyone like 90 percent of anything in politics.)

Let's see...the utter stupidity of the Republican base - and that's the candidates AND their voters.

  • If you are a strong supporter of family values and think that gay marriage is an affront to the institution of marriage yet you are voting for Gingrich...you are a fucking moron.
  • If you believe in freedom of religion and that the government should keep out of our lives and you are voting for Santorum...you are a fucking moron.
  • If you would like to vote for a candidate that is down to earth and in touch with the common man and you are voting for Romney...you are a fucking moron.
  • If you are a woman, gay, minority or make less than $100,000 a year and you vote for ANY of them...you are a fucking moron.
But I'd go a step farther and say that if you believe in an America that should be free and that people should be able to live their lives in the pursuit of happiness and you vote for Santorum...you are a fucking idiot. Santorum's ideas and statements are so wildly illogical, pedantic and destructive that it's a damned tragedy and joke that he's so close to frontrunner status. He wants a Christian theocracy and he's unabashed about stating so. He would have women totally covered at all times. He wants a Christian form of sharia law.
Gingrich is just an evil and petty human being who wants power while Romney wants to further his own power and get even richer.
I'm not saying that Obama is perfect - in fact his signing of the NDAA pretty much put me on the fence - but it looks like the Republicans can't field a viable candidate that does not cater to the very idiot, redneck, uneducated bullshit base that makes us the laughing stock of the rest of the world.

You've got to pander to where the votes are. Nobody's gotten elected during MY lifetime by appealing only to the best and brightest. If there's one thing today's americans hate it's to be metaphorically told they have to eat their goddamned peas.

Wait, Obama is gonna attack freedom of religion? Didn't Rick Santorum say that the pope should be advising the government (or something of that nature)?

For Rick Santorum "freedom of religion" is just a code for "freedom to impose a narrow view of Christian beliefs on the entire nation with absolute impunity."
