Yeah.

I guess technically Grendmir can equip everything we own but that doesn't mean he should always get first dibs.

I don't know why, but this amuses me greatly. Aaaaaaand the beat goes on...

Speaking of the beat, where is that song Shawnacy mentioned? I see nor hear any song!

DOUBLE POST! (...I really don't care. Tee hee.)

No, I didn't draw this.

This is actually my idea of a young Roshel (Adia's mom) with Leanu (Adia's dad) as he first appeared to her. Again, my idea of vampires are awesome. They DON'T FUCKING SPARKLE. They were both pretty young and fairly dumb. But, that's youth for you.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Well, since we're posting images...

I drew this as if we were just coming out of Euric's portal, all surprised and dismayed that we were not yet home.

I know I probably fucked up people's ideas of their characters, so this is basically my own interpretation. That's why I asked weapons questions during combat for those I'd forgotten. Hopefully not too bad (I'm not too great with the art, but I like the oldishness of the print, yeah?)

(click for big version)

Hopefully obvious to us, but from left to right: Gaspar, Serin (with Fusch), Saryon, Errik (with Bez), Adia, and Grendmir.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

I'd totally be excited at the prospect of a new world.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

So I thought it was a good game. I think this time around that combat was a lot more exciting and fun and I hope to continue that in future games. Just be ready for your turns and be sure to add details of what you are doing to make the combat sound more than just "hit/miss". Also letting me know when your turn is over helps keep combat flowing as I don't have to ask "is that your turn?" each time.

Some interesting notes on last game since it's unlikely you'll be back there. The rest of the dungeon comprised of two more rooms (not including a hallway full of generic traps that actually had red Xs to show you where they were). One was a tavern that would be populated by robotic humanoids that had functions varied on which side you chose. If you went down the Evil Monsters route they would be mostly just be overly friendly "townsfolk" and would be even labeled as such. If you went down the Good Monsters route they would be usually labeled "Victim" or "Free kill" and most would be running around yelling phrases like "Oh no! Do not kill me!" or "I have such a heavy sack of gold, I hope no one takes it from me." (Note: All "gold" found in the dungeon would be worthless. But most of the monsters had parts that would be worth something.)

In each tavern there would also be a robot named "Quest Master" who would give the party a quest pretty much tailored to which alignment the Modrons had assumed you were. A good aligned party would be told to cleanse an evil temple, and evil aligned would be told to loot a good temple. Then you would be lead to a back room where a "secret door" awaited which, yes, would be a normal door with the words "Secret Door" on it.
The main temple had a springing trap system set up with the combat that I'll likely recycle into another adventure in the near future.

I liked it and support the change!

If you're willing to take even another suggestion to pressure the players to make decisions. While interested for a few minutes, I tend to zone out completely if it starts taking over a quarter of an hour to make decisions. IMO, if they want to go in alone, let them.... and let them DIE.

Yeeeesss.... :hmmm:

My only question is, why did you opt us out of the dungeon area so quickly?

I really wanted to explore the whole thing through (like, REALLY, a LOT), but there was absolutely no in-character reason to stay. While I personally would have loved to have been forced to complete the dungeon fully, there is absolutely no reason our characters, who are bent on getting home, would stay.

It was just weird to me that at the end of the first room you gave us an out. I actually went, "Wait, what? What about the rest?" over here in real-world-land.

I thought it was amusing. Imagine if Kratash were with us--he would've probably gotten impatient and just stormed down one hallway (probably Evil Monsters). Would we have all chased after him? Probably not. Last time, only Serin went after him. I'm not saying I want the game to be player-killing or party-killing, but we spend time making these decisions because we're trying not to die.

Well, my thoughts were that I didn't want this particular adventure to last more than a day. The reveal that the dungeon was a dungeon simulator happened earlier than originally intended but your decision on what direction to take took longer than I expected. Honestly I had expected you guys to pick the "Good Monsters" route and really not consider that it was too good to be true. But as it turns out you guys are a lot more clever and thoughtful than I gave you credit for, so bravo. I saw no reason to not advance the plot when given the opportunity, so I threw in the worker drone when you returned to the T-section.
And while the rest of the dungeon may have been fun, I felt that it had the same filler aspect of the flashback adventure that we did. I want you guys to feel that you are getting somewhere, and keeping you in a place that has little RP opportunities and has very little to do with the actual current plot-lines seemed unnecessary. So I gave you the out.

Technically you ended up in the last place that I ever would have thought you'd choose to go. Again I kinda expected someone to just burst out with "We want to go home" in which case the Modrons would send you to the most likely place a group of your varied races would call home. (Which isn't anywhere close to "home" as one might expect). Instead you ended up back on your home plane and in pursuit of one of the five. Again your resourcefulness is to be applauded.

While the Dungeon Simulator was just a filler adventure to get you onto the next portion, have no fear, as the Modrons will make another appearance in the future.

I could have found much more RP motivation to stay there, were I playing Kara.

Oh wells.

I'm also excited to be now in a place where we can have cold mountain adventuring. Not only does it provide a sweet costume change in my mental images, but the creatures there are more likely to be fire-vulnerable. :O

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Going through notes for the game. I think a good amount of RP is going to happen in this adventure. You guys need to get your bearings straight and get equipment. Keep in mind that you guys probably left a lot of your camping equipment back in Yuirwood when you set off after the missing Adia. I won't count money or any expensive items as among the missing, but you'll probably need to get new adventurers kits and rations. Plus you'll need to get some more appropriate clothing for the weather. The location you are headed to is actually called The Razor Peaks, but it's probably just as cold as one would expect a place called Frost Peaks to be. (By the way, even though you got the name of the location wrong I'm assuming your characters would have gotten it right and therefore wouldn't be sent to the wrong place by the Modrons.) Traveling will be difficult.
Your goal, I would assume, is to locate the Deva known as Horus Lightborn. A master of twin blades who went to the Razor Peaks to seek a fabled paradise. A simple History check will tell you that it's likely he went seeking Lithatrica (in common tongue would be "the valley of contentment") which is essentially this world's Shangri La.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Much like Final Fantasy 7, this world's Promised Land is rumoured to be hidden in the frigid north.

I'm not hatin', I just can't help but draw parallels between game worlds and existing media.

I would love to go ahead and buy new equipment, but we haven't found a store.

I guess for new clothes, a fur cloak would work.

Don't forget we're on sellin' duty as well.

We gots a 220 go ring and two 300 gp eyes. That's 820 base value. Maybe Errik and Serin can bump it up.

"300?? 300??? Do you hear what I'm saying to you?? These were the EYES of an OGRE GOLEM. FROM ANOTHER GODDAMN DIMENSION. And you'll only give 300??"

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Yeah hopefully we can argue it all up to a price that's easily divisible by 6. ;)

Ah, but it's all about finding a buyer who likes a good story!

"Sir, you look like a man who loves a good tale. Now tell me, would you rather buy a moose head... Or a moose head... FROM HELL??"

A moose head. A moose head from Hell is likely cursed or will have its originally owner looking for it.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Yogg-Saron... sound very Lovecraftian. And we're up north.

Oh shit, it's the Mountains of Madness!

EDIT: Okay, my level 7 encounter power is Come and Get It. Close burst 3, I drag all enemies I can see in the burst who can become adjacent to me by 2 squares, and then roll attack on each one. Nice gathering skill, even if it's beginning Errik to firebomb the spot with Grendmir at the center. A nice action point secondary comes if I use another encounter, Sweeping Strike, to again hit all those enemies.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Yogg-Saron is te name of a god from Warcraft, I believe.

http://www.wowwiki.com/Yogg-saron

Yup, an Old God too. So esc was right, it is a little Lovecraftian.

My new encounter is Concussive Echo. Single target within 10, Int vs. Will, 2d6+5 thunder damage. The first time the target makes any attack roll before the end of my next turn, the lightning stored in his body is released, dealing 5 thunder damage to the target and any other enemies within 3 squares.

Also because I got a new encounter power, I can rewrite the encounter power within my Tome of Readiness. At 1st level, it was Grasping Shadows, remember that? At 3rd level I changed it to the 3rd level encounter Colour Spray since we seem to face a lot of undead.

There are no obvious radiant 7th level encounters to replace it with now, so I'm contemplating either keeping it as Colour Spray, or retraining my regular 1st level encounter as something radiant and taking a 7th level fire encounter... I guess we'll see.

---------- Post added at 11:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:22 PM ----------

OR I could drop the radiance altogether and give myself yet another get-out-of-shit-free card. :)

tTook paladin power that lets me heal while smiting. Looking back at my combat strategies, I don't really do much damage per round, unless I start doing the Sword of the Morning combo, but that's a once a day thing. So I think I'll focus on making it harder to kill me.
