Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Glad you guys enjoyed the long overdue session. I was disappointed that I didn't have something a little more cryptic and at the same time informative with the conversation between Zasha and Adia. I may have her show up again to give Adia a little more sage advice and clear up a few things. Adia's bro is quite twisted indeed. I mean anyone who decides to feed on his mother's blood while she lays dying has pretty much fallen as far from the tree as Elvenly possible.

For some reason I always have a hard time remembering/piecing the story together. Like, I'm paying attention the whole time, but I can never put everything together and understand why/how things are happening. I do that a lot in movies too. I wonder if I might be retarded.

Anyway, fun session, though Serin was her usual quiet self. The Behir battle was alright, not a whole lot of strategy options, just kinda "attack 'til dead," but I did like how we were able to know that it eats metal objects, cut its belly open, and get moniez. =D That pretty much made the battle for me, granted it was after the fact. I can now afford the next equipment I want!

Weeeee.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

I think the Behir battle showed that we're finally making use of me :p.

Now we just gotta think up some strategic work for me and the pally to work together.

Also, Deschain, it was awesome having you. You're a very welcome addition. Your character made the better decision over Kratash in choosing not to further piss off Adia. It's not his fault. Gurpel's at the age where he hasn't learned how fast you say "Yes, ma'am."

I'm going to pump that bastard so full of healing he's going to develop instant cancer.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

I actually saw a set of 3.5e rules for a disease-like condition called the Whitelight Shakes, a body's reaction to an overapplication of positive energy.

Now that our two melee fighters are taking better advantage of marking and free attacks, I'd like to see you guys flank a bit more. Make those extra attacks more likely to hit. :)

This could be further compounded by a feat called Ranged Advantage, which also allows ranged characters to take advantage of a flanked enemy. For example, if Adia takes Ranged Advantage as her 8th level feat, and Grendmir and Gaspar have an enemy flanked, ALL THREE of them will have combat advantage against that enemy. In Adia's case, this would apply to both of her attacks. That shit adds up. :)

Oh and it turns out if I'm fighting dismounted then my wolf can make trip attacks if it has combat advantage.

*basks in the long awaited story arc* It's...beautiful.

I was also pleasantly surprised at how Deschain handles himself. Much different than the horror stories I was getting in the LFD2 thread... thank GAWD.
Heh heh. Welcome to the Company of Discord, Des. We're happy to have you.

We are like 2 combats past Level 6. We hit level 6 just before our last before-hiatus session.

As for an actual number, I'ono. =P *shrug*

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

I'm considering making the game a bi-weekly event. When you come to the game bring opinions or options if you want an alternative. It's just a lot of work to plan.

I think if it became bi-weekly that would be the beginning of an end. Not only would we lose the weekliness that keeps us attached, it would plod along much more slowly and I think we would just lose interest.

If we're getting DM burnout this early then I guess there's not much I can say, but I would surely miss playing every Thursday. :(

JAY'S GAME!

*abandons Shawn's game*

Hm. If Shawn wanted to go bi-weekly, we could potentially alternate Jay's game and Shawn's game...

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2! (Thread allowed 30 pages)

I'd probably be down for that, at least for a little while.

I'm actually picking up my DM hat again and thinking of starting one that Shawn could play in. ;) I'm going to buy all the newest books this weekend. ^.^

TOO MANY DMS IN THE KITCHEN

Shawn was going to play in Jay's before, and if we're alternating, I'd be happy to play in Jay's, and I'm sure Shawn would want to be in.

That doesn't mean I WANT to go bi-weekly, but I'd be okay with that set-up.

When you said bi-weekly, I was thinking 'that's a lot of DnD', but then I realized you meant bi-montly.

bi-weekly and bi-monthly don't have set definitions. It can mean either twice a week or every two weeks. So bi-weekly and bi-monthly can actually mean the exact same thing.

I don't know if I like the idea of Alternating Games, but if Shawn needs a break and wants to play, I guess I'm all for it.

I currently vote for Jay, and here are my (not that great) reasons:

1) I listened in on his last game and he had interesting stuff going on.
2) He's already got a lot of ideas planned
2) He's frequently mentioned consequences, and since we feel so safe in Shawn's world, it'd be nice to fear for my character's life.
3) I feel like every player group needs at least one female, and if Julie DMs, we lose our female.

Though if you two want to make pitches, that's cool.

My criteria for fun:
- My character's unique abilities / characteristics come into play often enough that I feel useful.
- Lots of loot / items / etc
- If we do something out of the box, it's rewarded, enough so that being boring and "just attacking" isn't the only option
- Lots of flavor text. I like "inputting" and seeing what my outcome is.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

What I can guarantee is :

- The motivation to play a long term game as long as the players allow it.

- A different approach as a GM compared to Shawn, with less emphases to the heavy role-play (think 50/50) with the players having far more control to role-play in combat itself (and I don’t necessarily mean talking to enemies)

- Consequences and repercussions will matter. Choices will be given, whatever you chose… and more important… whatever someone in your party does… WILL affect you.

- After verification, I already have 86 pages of notes for the campaign I was already working on with you guys in Icewind Dale. Nothing important, plot wise in our original sessions affected it. In fact, the players chose to go forth on a sub-quest (which still affected somewhat the main storyline… negatively…heh heh). If a decision is done quickly and players rolled over the next few days, I could be ready as early as next Thursday… if not, the Thursday after that.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

I'm down for whatever. But I cannot play 2 additional games. I just don't have the attention span for it.

Yeah, I'll do whatever here. I feel like a different game each week might kill -both- games actually, but I'm willing to give it a shot. It's just that, we play for 3.5 hours on average each night. That's not a -whole- lot of time. If you play the same game each week it ends up okay. Every other week might feel like it's plodding along in the sludge.

BUT! Like I said, I'll happily give it a shot.

The only character I have ready right now is a Warforged that I treated to act like a Golem type creature. He's bulkier looking than most warforged and is completely stone. Plus, I want him to use his fists as his weapons, but obviously DnD 4E favors weaponed characters, so I have him equipped with a maul, but we're "pretending" he's punching and swinging his fists. Would that be alright with you if we played your game, Jay?

Ideally, he'd probably be attached/bonded whatever to the/a magic-caster in the group, or maybe even better yet the party / a mage in the party found him deactivated and useless, infused him with mo' magic, and now he's bonded with his new master, sworn to protect him/her, and in search of his previous master. He would have no idea how old he is or how long ago he served his old master. Presumably we would find out the fate of his old master / meet his old master as some sort of boss, or tie his master into the overall story somehow.

That would be my ideal. :D

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game, part 2!

Well, I'm really not one for research papers when it comes to my gaming, so let me just put it out there like it is. I have experience DMing a range of games from classic D and D, to BESM, to Cthulhu, and even Masquerade. I'm incredibly flexible and character centric when it comes to plots and my combat is never the same twice. The reason behind it? I don't like being bored and straight up "you're in a room, kill some monsters" bores me. I create puzzles and have SEVERAL twists. Most of my combats involve terrain and magic "traps". What I mean by traps is that there will be points or devices that you won't know about until you either stumble on it or look really hard to find that can have a variety of effects on your combat or your enemies. I like to keep people guessing and I love mystery. You will feel a little like personal investigators at times, but even though I will have a planned set up, I -will- make up things on the fly to throw in your way. Note: I am not cheap when it comes to what I add in at random. I'm not the kind of DM who likes to just fuck her players over. I've been on that end too many times to subject other people to that. I'm here to guide a story and let you guys have a fucking awesome time.

And I loves me some moral ambiguity, not to mention variety. Of all kinds. I don't restrict anyone's character creation. Any and all classes and races are great and I make sure everything comes together. I work with my players and love letting them go wild. It makes for an array of fabulous possibilities and I thrive on it.

Honestly, I'm not sure what else to say. I'm a spontaneous, creative, zany, fun-loving girl and it translates into my game style. My players have always had fun with my scenarios and the longest game I ever had going went for 2 1/2 years. There's tons of mystery, spice, and action and shiny sparkly objects. (XD) If you'd have me, I would simply -LOVE- to DM for ya'll and have a blast. I'm really, really excited and pumped for this new chance for me to lead people into the crazy awesome places in my head and the chance to collaborate with my friends. ^o^

Hugs! ♥ Juls

I will be playing a Human Monk in either game. I have a couple personality traits and backstory elements lined up, and I might play a female this time around. It's been a while. :)
