Fantastic Breasts and Where to Find Them

Well it turns out the box actually said "beasts". Which makes it immediately less interesting.

In all seriousness though, my daughter wanted to see this. It was so boring I left her to watch it by herself after the first half hour. And I really like Harry Potter.

This exact thing happened with my mom. We decided to watch it while she was visiting and we both gave up on it half an hour in.

Fantastic Beast is a really lame movie. You're not missing out on anything by not watching it.

My wife and I went to see WW. It was nice. Better than BvS, but that's not exactly a compliment. Most of the side characters were pointless and had no development. The main villain setup was nice, but payoff was a bore. My wife liked it though.

Dan Fogler (as the No-Maj, Jacob Kowalski) steals every scene he's in, to the point where I cared more about him than Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander. He'd better be in the sequel; he's the best part of this movie by far.

Katherine Waterston (as Tina Goldstein) was a much more interesting character than Newt too; I feel like she could have driven this plot better than Newt.

But yes, Fantastic Beasts is a snoozefest.

Also this weekend we watched Shimmer Lake on Netflix. We liked it a lot. I'd say it's sort of Memento meets Fargo, but not nearly as good as those movies. Worth a watch.

Guys, I think I really liked Power Rangers.

It was dopey and fun and it's exactly what a throwback to a 90s kid show should be. Loved the Breakfast Club-iness of it. If all the nostalgia throwbacks were like this and not like Transfiverfive I would be way more into them.

HONESTLY, the only part that really bugged me was that Kimberly was the real bad guy in the situation with her former friends, but the movie continuously showed her getting a kind of bully revenge on them. When they got sprayed with boiling soda and had their car wrecked, you shouldn't be taking glee in her getting back at them. She should have made some sort of actual apology to them, not to Jason. And then she fucking shows him the God damn picture?! FUCK! YOU'VE LEARNED NOTHING YOU SHIT TRASH PERSON!

This is what my wife wants to see for her birthday, so we're going Saturday. Though because it's her birthday, we're not going to the significantly less-expensive matinee and I'm just going to deal with that.

It may be a good movie, but that is one dumb title.
What would be a better title?

Spoilers for Baby Driver

The Kevin Spacey face turn at the end was completely unexpected from me. I was expecting and the film was building him as the big hurdle for Baby in the end, for it to be Buddy and for Spacey to die helping Baby and Deborah escape was actually super God damn refreshing. Ugggh, man, the sumptuous combo of the visuals and audio and all the little hints building to the climax. What a fucking masterpiece of film making. It may not be your cup of tea. The story could be too simple or whatever, but no one can take away what a God damn master of film Edgar Wright is. Honestly, my only complaint is that I was expecting more car chases sequences.

Cars 3

It was a fun little movie that harkened back to what made the first one good. The ending was telegraphed so loudly and early in the second act that even I knew what was going to happen in the final act, and I'm usually oblivious to those hints. Didn't take away from the fun.

I've never seen the second one all the way through, so can't compare to it.

I mean, you guys are on my case about saying the title is stupid, but it's hardly just me. It's a silly title.

There's also a reason for the name that's a part of the whole narrative. It's his name, it's his job, and there's...a few other reasons. Like all good Edgar Wright movies - you know, all of them - it all ties in.

I get that, but Extending Thing Gets Space Priest in Trouble satisfies the same conditions for Star Wars, and it's still a goofy title.

The Spongebob Movie-Sponge out of Water

THIS...sure was a movie based on a popular cartoon. The villain barely said anything clever, Patrick acts more like his douchey POST Drymonberg personality rather than his season 1-3 personality(he sells out Spongebob for a SANDWICH), the surrealist scenes don't need to be there AT all, and all that CGI that was heavily advertised was only in the final act. ALSO-kinda annoyed that everyone got imaginative superhero forms...but Sandy was just a fucking squirrel.

I'm not saying its a horrible movie, hell I enjoyed it, but it feels like they tried to do WAY too many things with it that it all just felt cluttered.

Baby Driver

I thought it was decent. There was a lot of clever bits of filmmaking, and if I had any gripe about the editing/cinematography, it's that I wish there had been fewer cuts during some of the driving bits because then we could've seen more of what the cars were doing within a single shot. It certainly kept me guessing as to who was going to be the real thorn in Baby's side. A lot of work went into the sound editing.

In the spoiler is the less-nice stuff, so if you loved the movie, just don't click on it. I'm just going to close part out this by stating as plainly as possible, I liked the movie.

That said, I really enjoyed the first trailer for this, and I still like the movie shown in that trailer, but Baby Driver wasn't really that movie. That looked like more of a chase/heist movie than a heist/confrontation movie. It kept building and building, and then it ended. I think a chase movie would've better served the lead couple, because it wouldn't matter that they weren't really characters. And I get what Edgar Wright was doing with that--they're figures in a song--and the romance of that is certainly there, but it makes the scenes where Baby is with Buddy or Bats or Jon Berenthal's character feel like a non-character vs a room full of characters. Which is what the movie was, so removing it from the expectations I had based on the trailer, taking it for what it was because that's the fair assessment, it felt to me less like Edgar Wright and more like Tarantino-lite, with not as strong lyrical dialogue and a really good yet not as great soundtrack.
