[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

You can't -not- feel bad for Ice King... he is literally mentally ill, knows it, knows he can't do anything about it, but is at least capable of doing nice and good things occasionally now that he's aware of it.

Most importantly off all, Ice King was right: he made his furniture live because he wanted friends and his furniture knew this... but they didn't care, in the slightest. They wanted to fix him, sure, but none of them actually cared about how they did this. So instead of showing compassion and getting him to shape up, they threw all of his shortcomings into his face and pushed him away, making it impossible for the situation to ever be fixed. Worse, they NEVER even tried to free the Animation Wizard (or whatever his name was) from his ice, instead using him to make more of themselves.

So yeah... fuck that furniture. Ice King may have been a jerk, but he's never been as cruel as that.

We actually only JUST started Season 2. Open Book, Story for Steven, and Shirt Club are all Season 1 episodes that got rescheduled to more recently because they wanted the "Steven Bomb" event to have all of it's episodes build off of each other. We're actually only 3 episodes into Season 2, which starts with Full Disclosure.
I was going off of Cartoon Network's "buy digital episodes" structure on Youtube ... which has episodes out of order, now that I look at it (glad I didn't use it for that purpose). According to Amazon, it's in season 3 with Say Uncle and Story for Steven.

What would clear it up and make viewing easier is if CN would release some damn DVDs for Steven Universe that aren't just "random mish-mash of episodes". And on the subject of them being terrible at DVD releases, I can't believe Adventure Time is in season 8, yet the DVDs are only up to season 4. It's ridiculous.[DOUBLEPOST=1429337061,1429336712][/DOUBLEPOST]Anyway, it's 2 AM here and I just finished The Return/Jail Break. That was everything it was built up to be :). Just a few more episodes and I'll be all caught up.

Yeah... Amazon can say whatever it likes. The crew that works on the show has made it clear that Full Disclosure is the start of Season 2... though I personally feel like it should have started with House Guest (after the Mirror/Ocean Gem two-parter) and Season 3 should have started with Full Disclosure instead.

And CN is slowing down DVD releases because a lot of people are just buying the entire season of the show on iTunes, which hits the same audience. The only reason they put out DVDs at all is for kids too young to have tablets.

That's how Youtube has it divided; House Guest begins season 2. Though they still have Full Disclosure as part of ending a season ... it's weird because Political Power is listed after Jail Break, which doesn't make any sense in continuity.

I don't think they were ever really going at a good speed. I like having physical copies and it's usually less expensive. Not to mention, I don't know what deal CN has with Netflix, but stuff only goes onto there when they rip it from the disc, so as long as they hold off on DVD releases, it prevents further seasons from showing up on even the streaming service. I suppose that benefits CN in the short term.

I recently discovered 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and have been watching the hell out of every episode I can find on Youtube. I hadn't watched 8 Out of 10 Cats in like 2 years and had never heard of Countdown. This is great.

Last Man on Earth

I watched the first 2 part episode. I sure hope this gets better because I'm apparently missing what people are raving about. It was kind of boring and played totally straight. Even technically it was kind of a bunch of boring medium shots. There were funny jokes sure, but they were very spaced out.

Okay, I'm calling it-
all the characters are in Phil's head. The ladies coming out of no-where was a slightly believable stretch, but a new perfect guy whose name is "Phil Miller"? Yeah, this is probs a hallucination.

My wife decided she wanted to be caught up on Steven Universe too, even though she was nowhere in it ... so she spent yesterday watching 40 episodes, only breaking to use the restroom and shower.

All those in favor of having a "Play at 1.25x" added to everything and labeling it "Binge Mode: Engage" please indicate your assent.

That's what I love about my Apple TV. It lets me watch streaming video at high speed with the subtitles. It's great for anime, which on average tends to be very padded. Can't do it with my PS3, my laptop, or my phone.

That sounds less like "I want to be entertained," since your life is already occupied by real things, and more like "I want to absorb information at high speed," in which case, reading a Wiki summary would be even faster.

Not to me. 1.5x anime is about normal speed for every other show on earth. I don't really gain anything extra by watching Protagonist's wispy hair blow in the breeze contemplatively for 5 minutes.

But not as entertaining.

The thing is, when I remember the movie later, I will remember it at normal speed. Think of it like a hi-speed dub into my brain.

I watched a couple episodes of Rurouni Kenshin once. Each one spent half an hour to detail all the internal dialogue about why the protagonist should draw his sword, or go through all the memories associated with watching a cup fall and break on the floor, or something like that. Sloooooooooowwwww.

Hah, or how like on Inuyasha, any time a recurring character is going to be in an episode, they have to show a highlights reel of ALL their past appearances.

That's because animation is expensive... but still frames aren't.

Whoa, hold on ... I just had a breakthrough! This fast-forward stuff--that's why Fade doesn't like anything!

Think about it:

- Drama: speeds through the tension, robbing scenes of impact.
- Comedy: timing is crucial, lost due to the altered speed.
- Action: can't tell what's going on 'cause we movin too fast

It's not Fade's tastes or a lack of tastemakers; it's that the altered speed has reduced all media to a homogenous mush, indistinguishable, unsatisfying, and yet still present. Everything makes sense now! There are no more mysteries! I CAN SEE THROUGH REALITY! My God, it's full of stars ... and bookshelves.

Vikings, and lots of it. It's pretty damn good (for being a production of The History Channel). All the actors involved bring so much charisma to their roles. I think that's the main difference between Ragnar/Travis Fimmel and someone like say Jax/Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy. Travis Fimmel brings so much charisma to the soft spoken Ragnar and makes you care about him despite what a violent, savage thug he is, something they could never pull off in Sons of Anarchy (They also manage to show that Ragnar gives a shit about his family MUCH MUCH better than Jax supposedly was). It's a lot to do with the writing I'd imagine, though Vikings' dialog and story isn't exactly complex or deep either.

Also, the soundtrack is so perfectly atmospheric.

So good.

I'm going back and rewatching season 10 of Futurama. One thing that noticeably stands out about this season is that the characters shift from bumbling to out and out doing bad things. Fry murders a man for crying out loud. Nibblonians are suddenly obliviously destroying planets. Just seems off.
