[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

It's so fucked up. The show barely pays any attention to members of it's main cast (Reed and Mayweather specifically) and an episode focused on the captain's dog before they get any attention.

It's still not Threshold bad, but it's close.

Apparently it was nominated for a Hugo award. That's FUCKING insane.

The episode I was referring to as the bad Voyager episode had Reed, Archer and Hoshi turned into weird aliens by a disease (where Tpol is immune cause VULCAN PHYSIOLOGY!) and random Voyager species of the week shows up to tell them the planet is quarantined and erryone gotta die. Some of the goofiest acting from Archer and co as they leap around like hopped up monkeys and I'm embarrassed to even be watching the show. Luckily, the crew of Enterprise manage to solve the problem in a day that the alien species couldn't in 60 years.

I dunno about Reed, seems to me he got a lot of screentime in the whole "I feel my job is threatened by Major Mako guy" subplot. But yeah, Mayweather kinda got relegated to the background and they have to keep finding non-language-officer errands to send Language Officer Sato on just to remind people she exists. And Archer is the Worst. Diplomat. Ever. And can we go 5 minutes without showing T'pol forcibly swallow an emotional response on camera. And... and I don't know why I like that series so much, but I do. Well, more than voyager anyway.

I remember watching the first season of Enterprise when it aired. I liked it (other than the stupid theme song) because it felt nitty gritty, and the ship looked functional. I liked the Vulcans being taken down a peg, too. But then it just seemed to turn into a soap opera. All the things that I liked were so overdone and exaggerated that it became stupid. Okay, so Vulcans aren't perfect and have problems, too. Neat. Oh. Now that's ALL the vulcans do. Archer works in a grey area even more than Kirk. Neat. Oh. Now ALL Archer does is work in grey areas. Archer is morose. Neat. Archer is too morose. Etc.

There's a worse one... one where Archer basically says that Flox can't cure a disease on a pre-warp planet because it would be interfering with the natural development of the planet's species (one species was dying and the other was thriving) and does this despite there being no such thing as the prime directive yet.

In a (not much) later episode he decries two advanced aliens for doing the same thing to his friends that he did a planetary scale, essentially because it's his friends that are dying.

There's an excellent SFDebris about this but I can't remember the name of the episode.

EDIT: If your watching Star Trek, watch SFDebris. You'll love it and appreciate some episodes more.

I'm up to the point where I originally stopped watching DS9, bout 3/4ths of the way through season 3. Looks like I gave up on it just when it was starting to get good. I don't find myself reaching for my iPad while watching episodes now.

I recently rewatched the entirety of DS9, and I'll say that early DS9 beats the living daylights out of early TNG. I more or less wince through a season 1 or two episode of TNG but the quality of DS9 is apparent even in the beginning, although the later seasons are where it really shines.

I just posted this in another thread. I just hate Bashir and tune out on any episode where he is prominent.

He gets better.

I didnt like his characterization in early seasons, although even this is given explanation later on in a major way--also part of his character arc is moving away from that bright-eyed naivety.

Also, is there a cast member who didn't direct at least one episode? Seems like quite a few episodes were directed by cast members.

I think that was pretty common on most Star Trek after next gen.

One thing I think DS9 did better than most of the other series is giving the entire cast the spotlight at one point or another.

Bashir gets worse. They do something to his character that unitentionally makes all his mistakes purely selfish acts that in several instances could have caused death or injury for his other station mates.

Depends how you look at it. There are, um, supposed severe consequences for that 'something'

Have I mentioned that I love The Aquabats Super show? Because I do! And for those Homestar Runner fans constantly hitting refresh on the Homestar Runner site hoping of updates(you know who you are) Matt Chapman is one of the writers! And he plays a character that looks like Strong Bad! And sounds like Strong Bad! And its awesome!

I am almost certain it's supposed to be Strong Bad. Strong Bad shows up at most of the concerts too.

I know, I would LOVE to see that live! Fireball's chance in heaven of that happnin though, ZERO concert dates. Fleh, I'm good with the TV show.

Also it took some Google-fu but I found a video of that "Steven Universe" pilot. Looks pretty good, can't wait to see the full show. Loved Rebecca Sugar's work on Adventure Time.

This. And those consequences come to a head.
Did they? He got a slap on the wrist and we got a lecture by Sisko about the evils of holding children responsible for the sins of the father.[DOUBLEPOST=1370784269][/DOUBLEPOST]The factor that helped create Bashir, O'Brien friendship was built on a lie that needlessly put O'Brien's life in danger. None of this is ever even addressed.

Awesome! I recently discovered the show as well and it is so friggin' fun.

By the way, new episodes have started.

Wow, I just watched the intro the Aquabats. Just the intro alone feels like something the Chapman brothers would write. I got Limozeen vibes from it the entire time, even the group travelling in a van. If they had changed it to Limozeen in Space, I don't think there'd be much different.

Huh. I may have to check out this show now.

Reminder, I'm still watching it, and even though it's an old series, revealing spoilers knowing that would be rather dickish.

There is a lot of pyew pyew pyew zap zap zap! Grawlg and sproing! And ha ha they didn't negotiate their contract correctly yet to come! Followed by eww and oh come on and Gul Dukat is fuckin awesome!

And spoiler! Just like GoT

Well, continuing my watching of Enterprise, I have this observation:

They should have found a way to make Shran a more regular character. Shran (and actor Jeffrey Combs, Weyoun and Brunt from DS9) is awesome.

How far along are you yet? Nazi's? Do you want to throw a shoe at Brent Spiner yet? Are you about to say "Fuck you Troi."?

Nah, I'm only in the 3rd season, but I've seen the ones from the 4th you're referring to.

I always thought it was stupid for them to try to explain why Klingons looked different in TOS. We had a better makeup budget should have been all the explanation needed.

The only thing that drives me nutters about Star Trek is the frequency of ridiculous time travel incidents for every single series. The Doctor needs to do a cross over to straighten them out.

Agreed. Though Worf's line in the DS9 episode, "We don't discuss it" was hilarious. They could've just left it at that and everyone would understand.

Getting back to why early TNG sucked - morbid as it is to say, TNG only found its legs after Roddenberry died, so that could no longer insist we had to learn something about ourselves with every single episode.

More Enterprise thoughts. Daniels is fucking awful. Every time he shows up I want to put my remote through my tv. The time travel bullshit is lazy, awful and irritating. I'm also hating the Voyager style episodes where the conflict is entirely predicated on the whole crew being completely fucking retarded. T'Pol also continues to be the worst fucking Vulcan ever and now the excuse is, SHE'S ADDICTED TO DRUGS which Phlox apparently doesn't think warrants telling the fucking captain of the ship. Nah, that's not a big deal when the fate of humanity is at stake, the first officer being a fiending drug addict is nothing to worry about. In the same episode they space pirate Gul Dumar's warp coil to replace the one they lost, stranding Gul Dumar and crew 3 years from home. Then they fly off being like, they'll get home eventually. WHY THE FUCK DON'T YOU JUST COME BACK AND GIVE THEM THEIR WARP COIL BACK WHEN YOU CAN? WHY ARE YOU ABANDONING THEM FOREVER?

I had to stop watching the show after that episode. I might not watch anymore, I don't know.

Wow, just caught up on The Killing this season and it's really good. Feels like they trimmed it down to just a serial killer hunt as opposed to a quasi-political murder mystery but it's really working for me.

So, finished off Enterprise. Did they ever explain why that even after getting a Starfleet commission, T'Pol never wore a uniform? WE NEEDS HER IN TIGHT SUIT BUM TITS is such a shitty excuse.

Anyways, yeah, show finally gets good, booting fucking Daniels off the show forever, ending the anemic as fuck temporal cold war (the fucking stupidest running plot idea ever) and finally getting on with being an enjoyable show (though I don't know if it was necessary to do so many multi-episode arcs). I did especially love Uncle Phil the Klingon.

Fuck that last episode. Fuck it seriously. Fuck Brannon Braga and Rick Berman. I'm not cool with there never being another Star Trek I know and love again, but if it means they never get to work on it again it's for the best. No wonder so much of the cast thought it was shit.

Alright, now I've started rewatching DS9.

I haven't watched DS9 beyond catching an episode here and there in syndication since it first aired. I think the first two seasons were unfairly maligned. In fact, I think the first two seasons are better than any other modern Trek's first two seasons.

Also, the theme doesn't make me boredangry, so it's got that on Enterprise.

I gorged on all 3 seasons of Game of Thrones this week. I'm sad it's over and I have to wait for the next season. I finally know what everyone's talking about when they mention the "Red Wedding".

Damn right they are.
