Yup. I thought the ending was amazing. The last conversation was… powerful.True Detective was fantastic and I am sad it is over.
Was easily the best show on TV during it's run.

The show is glacial slow compared to most other series, but it's worth the attention. Absolutely worth the attention. After hearing all the hullaballoo about True Detective, I checked out the first episode. Really good show, judging from this. Holy hell, McConaughey is almost unrecognizable in this role. His character reminds me a little bit of BBC's Sherlock. Not in a bad way, just similarities in terms of high-functioning socio-paths.
The pacing is a little slow, though that might also be because I'm super tired and hitting the sack soon. Also found a lot of the accents hard to follow. I'd probably enjoy this more with subtitles
Still, it's enough that I'll watch the next episode tomorrow.
They're all in Purgatory? This season of Archer is just...lost.
Yes! One of us! One of us!After hearing all the hullaballoo about True Detective, I checked out the first episode. Really good show, judging from this. I dunno if you're using this differently than me, but I usually associate "chew the scenery" with bad over-acting, and I think what Woody does with the role is pretty great and subtle and while McC is going to win the Emmy, no question, in any other year Woody would have a shot too.And I could watch Woody Harrelson chew the scenery all day.
If you've just started and think they're terrible, I hate to break it to you but they get much, much worse as time goes on.I've started watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I can't get into it. It's well-written but those characters are terrible, terrible people.
I've not watched the performance in question, but I don't think "chew the scenery" is in and of itself indicative of "bad," just a performance that is extremely melodramatic. It can be used endearingly as well as negatively. CorroborationI dunno if you're using this differently than me, but I usually associate "chew the scenery" with bad over-acting, and I think what Woody does with the role is pretty great and subtle and while McC is going to win the Emmy, no question, in any other year Woody would have a shot too.
Because it was funny, and the first real character-based ensemble primetime sitcom? Why was friends popular?
Also, it invented the terms "going commando" and "Friend zone."I can't speak for the second part, but I don't think I have ever found it funny.
If that's where those two terms came from, my new life goal is to create time travel and prevent the show from ever happening. Also, it invented the terms "going commando" and "Friend zone."
And what can I say, different strokes for different folks. I can't stand Dr. Who. World keeps spinnin'.
Guess I'm just bitter because my girlfriend loves watching it. If I could just ignore it I doubt I'd really care. Also, it invented the terms "going commando" and "Friend zone."

This guy...Also, who was the guy at the end, buying the books? I feel like his appearance was supposed to mean something but I didn't recognize him.

THISP.S. If you haven't seen Phantom of the Paradise, check it out.
Well, Rachel's not really a one-off since this is the 3rd episode she been in. She doesn't fill the void Troy left, but she seems seems like a nice fit for Abed. Plus, I kinds like that Abed's dating Envy Adams because I really liked Scott Pilgrim.Getting back to Community, that was an okay episode. Glad to see Abed one-off girl meeting has actually turned into something. Though I feel bad for not knowing the movie reference at the end. Also, who was the guy at the end, buying the books? I feel like his appearance was supposed to mean something but I didn't recognize him.
Finally, whatever happened to that Apple company they mentioned at the end? Kind of an obscure 90s reference, I guess. Probably not a company that went anywhere.
I might be wrong. But most of the ones I remember previous to that were either single protagonist or comedy duos. I suppose it also depends on whether you consider shows like full house to be ensemble or just the story of three brothers and some supporting cast, or if the winslows or cosbys are an ensemble (which I don't consider them to be). What?
I'm not knocking Friends, but there have been A LOT of ensemble sitcoms in the past 50 years.
'ere now, that's not true!Friends was the first sitcom to be about young group of people that did not have old neighbors dropping by to try to bring in the "CBS" demographic. So it was a pure youth ensemble. So it is like Threes Company without the Ropers, Chico without the Man, Alice without Mel
Cheers? Taxi?I might be wrong. But most of the ones I remember previous to that were either single protagonist or comedy duos. Yup, M.A.S.H, Barney Miller, Cheers, Taxi, SOAP..... Friends was not a pioneer of ensemble sitcoms. What?

Both of these had one or two central characters the others were based around. Sam Malone. Alex Rieger and one or two others. I suppose it depends on if you call 3 people an ensemble.[DOUBLEPOST=1394810479,1394810387][/DOUBLEPOST]Cheers? Taxi?
MASH (the TV show at least) was definitely The Hawkeye Pierce Show. Didn't watch much Barney Miller so I can't comment there...Yup, M.A.S.H, Barney Miller, Cheers, Taxi, SOAP..... Friends was not a pioneer of ensemble sitcoms.
