[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

True Blood is riding on cheese at the moment, but not all of the previous seasons are bad. That said, some of them got REALLY weird.

I still enjoy it, but yeah... I'm glad it's coming to an end, though I kind of wish it was getting a spin-off in a different part of the world.

Just got around to watching Scrubs seasons 8 and 9.
8 is pretty decent as last seasons go - too many in-jokes and references, not enough interesting story, too much romcom drama instead of sitcom, the humor goes off the rails sometimes and they focus more on Cox than JD by now, but still good and funny.
9...yes, I know, it was a spin-off-that-wasn't-a-spin-off sort of thing, but still. The new cast is OK, the new characters are mostly crappy though. Some of the "replacements" are incredibly weak (security for janitor, for example).
However, half a season and nothing after that, no resolution at all? That's just ridiculous. If they'd marketed it as a spin-off and had adjusted expectations for that, I could imagine it doing decent. Not great - it's not half as funny as Scrubs season 1 - but still. Cancelled after half a season, it didn't quite deserve. Oh well.

I just can't take a character named Sookie Stackhouse seriously, especially when vampires are involved.

You aren't supposed to take Sookie seriously. Her brother Jason might be a certifiable moron, but he has more sense about his own personal safety than she does. Sookie literally goes out of her way to endanger herself time and time again... hell, he recently threw her cellphone away out in the middle of the forest, in the middle of the night, where no one knew she was.

Sookie is basically Belle from Twilight, except there's an actual reason why everyone is fighting over her. This makes it all the worse when people start dying because of her nonsense. She's also incredibly selfish, though at least this isn't glossed over. She's done some really scummy things over the years and I honestly can't believe anyone has forgiven her for them. At least Tara had the sense to tell her to fuck off after what happened to her.

One friend made me and another friend watched the first four episodes of season 1 because she and her boyfriend loved it.

That show is trashier than the episode of Pokemon about living bags of trash.

I'm not sure if this post is about True Blood or Blue Mountain State, and I'm not sure it matters.

It is SUPER trashy and that's why I love it. They don't even try to hide it. They've full embraced it and it's lead to some truly funny moments on the show.

Maybe that's why my mom and stepdad watch reality TV.

I just didn't find anything enjoyable in True Blood. If I hate the characters, I have no interest, and I couldn't stand a single one of them.

I find that I got into True Blood because, like AshburnerX said, it knows it's ridiculous and doesn't try to take itself seriously. It's a great summer show when you don't want to think to much (it's too hot to think) and you just want to be entertained. I would never recommend it heartily like I would, say, Veronica Mars or Orphan Black, but it's my own guilty pleasure.

I didn't start watching with any regularity until the end of the second/beginning of the third season because I had the same problem with it that I had with Buffy and The Office: I cannot stand the main character. For example, I like Steve Carrell, but a little Michael Scott was more than enough for me. I liked the episodes that focused less on him and more on the rest of the cast, who I thought were the real strength of the show. And now with True Blood ending, I honestly don't care what happens to Sookie or Bill, I just want to see how they wrap things up for everyone else. (Side note: I think Sam got screwed this season, part of it having to do with Nicole being so damn annoying. Ah well.)

Nick dot com has this new short series called "Welcome to the Wayne", real nice animation and its pretty funny. Kinda annoyed this is online, while Breadwinners has a Saturday morning timeslot but fleh, good animation is good animation.

Nick is moving a lot of it's stuff that schews older to online, where they don't need to worry about 18-35 year olds fucking with ratings.

Right, so they won't be confused if a majority of one of their show's viewers is older than their target audience which...shouldn't matter because people are watching but who cares because television.

It matters because it fucks up advertising demographics. Korra's audience skewed older than Nick's targeted demo, but they can't exactly get advertisements for that group without having parents upset there are alcohol and other adult stuff being advertised during a kids show. Cartoon Network has this problem all the time as well, especially with stuff like Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and Regular Show but they've found a niche market for high-en t-shirts and merch in those shows... but they had to cancel Young Justice and Justice League because most of the viewers weren't interested in the toyline.

Simply put, if they can't sell merch for the show, it needs to go digital for the targeted ad revenue.

And that is how they could've continued...hindsight is a bitch.
