The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

Yesterday I successfully found my way from Rome to Ljubljana despite having to change plans two or three times on account of poor information from Trenitalia and the local bus lines. After three Italian trains, a taxi across the border, two Slovenian trains, and a short walk across the border I finally made it to my hostel. And I STILL got here an hour earlier than expected. Woohoo!

God damn, it's good to be out of Italy.

I got a promotion at work. I am now the back-up lead for the VOIP Engineering Team. Best part is that I had just started in the field 7 months ago.

Now I get to do my most favorite of things: salary negotiation! /sarcasm

Since I've been absent from Halforums for over a year, I supposed I should say the good things have been going on with me!

I got engaged on New Years Day, 2010 to my lovely fiance Kate. The wedding is in December of this year.

We reconciled with my older sister whom I haven't really talked to since her divorce a few years ago.

I finished my classes at my college in my computer studies program (with an average grade of about 96) in April and am now on a paid work term with the provincial government here. The school only requires 8 weeks, but the government is keeping me from May 2 till August 19.

My fiance and I joined a gym last week. She's had weight issues for a long time (loss/gain), but I've just been overweight (and slowly gaining ) my whole life. While I'm 290 lbs, most people wouldn't think that. My trainer was surprised that I weighed that much! I've only been going for two weeks but already feel better, have more energy, etc. We're going to a wedding out of town at the end of August and I'll hopefully be able to wear my suit without having to keep the pants unbuttoned! :)

Congratulations on your engagement, and good luck with your exercising and whatnot. It's good that y'all can do that together. :)

Thanks Cajungal.
She's been in a gym before (one summer while we were broken up and I was working in the US, she was at the gym everyday. Lost close to 80 lbs, just to make me jealous. It worked), but didn't lose the weight 'properly', so it all came back. It's all uncharted territory for me, but the three free sessions with a trainer were a big help.

Also, got paid yesterday and my wage went up $1.38 an hour! :aaah:

I've had high blood pressure and high cholesterol all my life! Having to see dieticians and being put on diets by the various family doctors I've had through out the years. I've never been over weight, but it was just genetics that caused me to have these problems.

Yesterday I got the results back from my yearly physical. My blood pressure is normal and my cholesterol is normal as well... I have less then a 1% chance of having cardiac failure over the next 10 years.:)

Yesterday was our Convocation ceremony, so I have OFFICIALLY graduated now, as in I actually have my degree. Also I graduated with High Honours, not just honours. I didn't even know there was a distinction.

ALSO, yesterday I got two pieces of mail from the canadian Revenue Agency. "Crap. I'm being audited, aren't I?" I thought, as I opened them. Nope. I guess there was a mistake on my tax refund, cause each was actually a notice that I was getting more money back!
*Immediately goes to amazon.ca and places an order for Day By Day Armageddon, The Late Shift, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter*

further win, I love having my cousins visiting. One is 13 and the other is 9. It amuses me because I use slang terms etc that no one else does and after a few days they use them too. Oh little impressionable kids. I love them.

I built a small shelving unit to hold all my paints using nothing but the wood which was gathering dust in the garage. Looks decent, too. A couple of the shelves are a little warped but I'm sure I can fix that problem if need be.

I took my son to get his hair cut and everything went smoothly. Why is this an epic win? Because just 8 short months ago taking him to get a hair cut was a nightmare. He would cry, kick and scream through the whole thing. I seriously considered not cutting his hair until my husband came back from deployment because the whole experience was such a clusterfuck every time. I found a lady here who is so good with him. He loves her and sits there without any fuss at all. YAY!!

Complained yesterday about going to a gross club... that part was still awful, but a friend of mine raised $11,000 for charity at a bid-on-a-bachelor night, so that is amazing. That's from donations he collected before the event combined with his bids. :) The other bachelors raised a lot too; no one raised less than $250. It all goes to a local children's shelter, so yay! He and 3 other guys were smart enough to call in a bunch of favors, and local businesses were donating a dollar per facebook "like" and things like that. Good stuff for the kids.

I have a job offer! A real job offer! Like, a real honest-to-goodness graphics artist position and not just a part time retail position!
A friend of mine hooked me up. She works there and she sent them my resume, and I was shocked when I got the interview. The interview was on Tuesday, and before I could even get them my references, the CEO sent me a contract and everything on Thursday.
Its not animation- what I've always wanted to do, but it is still using photoshop and getting some artistic experience. Its a really cool project, actually, and I can't wait to start in July. I don't know how much I'm allowed to say about it, but probably not much.

Anyway, :D

Now I have to let my current job know I'm leaving earlier than anticipated...

I've just spent the most amazing 6 days on Hvar island in Croatia. It's been absolutely beautiful and incredibly relaxing, a very welcome change of pace for this holiday. I've met a ton of great people at the hostel and am incredibly glad I decided to stay here for as long as I did. Tonight I did burgers on the outdoor grill for about 15 of the other guests and got some of the guys to help out with sides and prep and stuff. Dinner was fantastic and it was really rewarding to see everyone having such a good time. Part of me really wishes I didn't have to go. Ah, well. Tomorrow it's a race back up to Zagreb and on Tuesday I'll be flying to Barcelona to see Denbrought and Moss. Should be good times.

Someone make sure I never stockpile this much change again.
The money is better left where it can grow for me, and the rolling process is slow, dirty and tedious.

Look for a post in the EPIC WIN thread sometime over the next couple days for total roll counts!
Alright SO.

I couldn't sleep knowing I was that close, so I threw on some TNG and finished rolling. Since I started rolling change two years ago, I've underestimated my totals a few times. Here are the numbers.

75 rolls of pennies, 3750 pennies, totaling $37.50.
26 rolls of nickels, 2080 nickels, totaling $52.00.
37 rolls of dimes, 1850 dimes, totaling $185.00.
40 rolls of quarters, 1600 quarters, totaling $400.00.
2 rolls of loonies, 50 loonies, totaling $50.00.
3 rolls of toonies, 75 toonies, totaling $150.00.

183 rolls of coins totaling 9405 coins and $874.50.

I'ma buy an HDTV of some kind. :D

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

But I think you're just making up those last two, loonies and toonies... what a riot. ;)

Yes, I do know those are Canadian coins, just having a little fun.

Gusto, how the hell did you manage to hang on to all those loonies and toonies? The minute I find myself in possession of a few loonies or a toonie, I make a concious decision to leave early for work the next day so I can go to Timmies.

ok i hvae to ask because im too lazy to google...what the hell are loonies and toonies? I come from a land down under, we just call them all silvers.
