Let me start by saying that I'm a power lifter, and that I train on and off with friends who use steroids. I've also taken several classes to become a physical trainer, which cover the effects of steroid use in great detail to help you identify clients that are cycling.
In my curiosity following Roman's suspension, I looked up the Wellness Policy. One of the more interesting things I found was this quote, to which I bolded one important word:
APPLICABILITY OF THIS POLICY This Policy, as it may be amended from time to time, is applicable to and binding upon all WWE Talent under contract to WWE who regularly perform in-ring services as a professional sports entertainer (“WWE Talent”).
What's interesting there is that only talent who are active on the roster are applicable. Injured, part time, on vacation, or currently suspended wrestlers are not subject to testing. This means that anyone who is placed on an official injured list can do a steroid cycle and get clean again before resuming full-time work.
This also has another extremely interesting meaning; people like The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Triple H, Vince, Batista, or anyone else who has been part time over the last several years can juice or use other illegal substances without any penalty, other than the law.
A lot of people commented on how much bulk Rollins was able to build while he was rehabbing his knee. Personally, I trust the work ethic of the man and believe he did it naturally, but it is a very real possibility that he could have hit the juice without fear of penalty.
John Cena is another talent who is constantly under scrutiny from fans as a possible Steroid user. Every time he's injured (which is admittedly becoming more and more common), he comes back bigger, faster, and more vascular.
For anyone who isn't familiar with the effects of HGH or AAS usage, it heavily promotes increased blood flow to your muscles. This increases vascular development and gives off the well known "overly-veiny" appearance associated with steroid use. Cena absolutely has this look when he returns from injury, and it starts to fade after 5 or 6 months.
Brock Lesnar was recently under fire from his future UFC opponent for not being subject to UFC's drug testing. Many people shrugged this off under the account that he is tested by the WWE, but as he is a part time talent, he is not subject to testing under the policy.
I'm a huge fan of Brock, and I've followed his career closely. With the knowledge I have about natural muscle growth vs unnatural growth, I can honestly say I don't think Brock uses steroids. This conclusion is based on comparing photos from his NCAA days, High School Wrestling footage, NFL training photos, and his early FCW stuff. With that said, it definitely doesn't look good if this policy gets a large amount of main stream exposure, and could cause some serious controversy for both the UFC and the WWE.
Triple H is definitely on steroids now that he is exempt from testing. There's really no doubt about it. He's far more vascular and far larger than he was when he was an active competitor for the few years after the policy was put in place. He grew exponentially after his pseudo retirement against the Undertaker in 2011 when he officially became a part time performer as the COO.
The Rock and Batista I don't follow well enough to make an educated guess about. Batista has always been an animal (lol) though, so who knows.
