TIL: Today I Learned

TIL, 7UP isn't actually owned by Pepsi, they just distribute it over here.

And also, Trademarks are industry specific, so there's really no way either side would stand up in court unless she starts selling soft drinks or Pepsi starts showing some skin on TikTok...

Then again, corporate lawyers sending scary letters with no legal backing isn't exactly unheard of. But it would have nothing to do with the rebranding.

Dr. Pepper is the same and who carries it, either Pepsi or Coke, varies state to state, or at least region to region. It's Pepsi up here but Coke in at least Seattle. Was very confused while I was at SeaTac awhile back and looked into it.

Macaque is my favorite species of monkey. I have a picture of one on my phone. I like to ask people, "Want to see a picture of macaque?" If they think anything dirty that's on them.

I keep a picture of a baby orangutan on my phone for when people ask to see a picture of my kids.

Since we are on the topic of animals, TIL (last weekend actually) that white rhino herds poop in an area(called a midden) and return to it to smell who is ready to breed or who is sick etc. If these poop areas get disturbed or destroyed it upsets the herd.

The word "monkey" is used both for the whole category, and for one of the subcategories. "dog" can likewise be used for just the domesticated fluffballs and for all canines. It's "exact" vs "general usage" though.
Thank you. Normally I would not be pedantic on the subject, it's just interesting to note that the game has been made and remade so many times and I've only been able to find one version where the pieces have tails. (Maybe that's why Old Crappy Couch on YouTube hasn't done a comparison between modern and retro versions. Nothing much has changed but the colors of plastic.)

In related trivia: ants, bees, flies, and mosquitos, among many others, are not bugs. Even ladybugs are not bugs. There may be over 80,000 species in the order Hemiptera that are "true bugs", but a lot of insects commonly called bugs are actually not. If I'm getting swarmed by gnats or mosquitos, I'm not going to correct anyone who says it's buggy out, or if there are flies and ants all over a picnic I'd agree that there are bugs all over the food, but if you're talking about etymology neither is correct.

I tried Dr. Pepper for the first time today. It tastes like children's fever syrup.

Yeah, I never realized how American root beer and peanut butter are until I started watching the Irish "Try Channel" people.
Most of them absolutely cannot stand either. Meanwhile, my fat American butt loves both. :p
