That's pretty juvenile, and I feel like they're getting enjoyment out of Mad Max less because of the game and more because they just had a rough few days.So, apparently Jerry of Penny Arcade called out outlets that gave Mad Max a bad score in the most absurdly dopey way possible. Basically decrying anyone who doesn't fall in line with Metacritic because.....reasons?
It's honestly batshit insane.
What the fuck? Man, they defend, tooth and nail, mediocre triple A games all the time, but this is seriously batshit insane.

"Conform to the 4 point scale or cease calling your site professional, because I like getting paid by game companies a lot more than respecting you" is the jist what I'm getting out of this.
Some reviewers gave Mad Max a low score. Jim Sterling, for one, gave it a 5/10. People are getting their jimmies all rustled because of said low score, including Jerry from PA.
I'm just impressed people still give a shit about Penny Arcade in 2015. Whodathunk?
Honestly, it blows my mind the kind of vile hatred reviewers get for scores. Tom McShea rated The Last of Us 8/10 and comments ranged from "fire him!" to "kill yourself!" They were so mad that ONE person didn't give the game a perfect score. Or when Carolyn Petit scored GTA V 9/10, praising the game but mentioned a few critiques that she was well within her right to mention. Same thing: "Fire Carolyn," "She should die," and all the transphobic comments against her.
I just don't get it. Not everyone will love that one game or movie or book. Reviews are entirely subjective and scores represent that. Who cares if one person wants to criticize it?

I'm playing through The Last of Us now, and I think 8/10 is a fine score. It's really good, as an 8/10 would suggest, but it does have its flaws.
I should've totally gone nuclear on social media over Godzilla PS4 reviewers.

Thing is, I can't actually say that Mad Max sucks, because I haven't played it. What I can say is that none of those videos look fun. I'm sure we all have had a game we enjoyed that wasn't popular. But none of the gameplay looks engaging, which is unfortunate because everything the developers talk about sounds so great. I love the idea of an open world death car game. It just doesn't seem like it was well-executed. I don't know that for certain. For all I know, I'd pick it up and have a good time.
The trick is less "I know I won't like it" and more "I don't think I'd like it and I'm not paying $60 to find out if I'm wrong." Same goes for Godzilla, and probably a lot of games.
Then there's shit where you think you're going to love it and you buy it, and hate it. That's so infuriating.
I've made the mistake of pre-ordering games that I thought were gonna be great. Amazing Spider-Man and Arkham Knight come to mind. I don't pre-order often, but those were two of the few exceptions I've made and it bit me in the ass. Not that they weren't bad games. ASM was all right, but definitely not worth paying full price.
Ehh... Spider-Man 2 on PS2 was pretty great. The city was yours to explore, with tons of opportunities to simply just swing around New York City and really, isn't that the most important thing IN a Spider-man game?
Even before that, the first Spider-Man game for PS1 was pretty good. So was Spider-Man 1 on PS2.
Maximum Carnage let you play as Venom. As a kid, that's all that mattered to me.

Pokemon... on your smart phone... as an augmented reality game that involves you hunting down your Pokemon in the real world. You can fight and trade with other players, as well as engage in raids to hunt down legendaries.
Oh boy. Nintendo intended to get into mobile and that's great, but if they shift Pokemon that way--well, I guess if they're planning for the next system to take care of both console and handheld, so maybe they don't need to sell Pokemon machines, but that was their go-to for moving handhelds before.
Honestly, I prefer having a handheld. I don't like playing games on my phone. The touchscreen alone can be limiting and my battery already drains like crazy just from checking on Halforums; can't imagine how quick it'd go if I tried playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Nintendo has already said that this isn't the next main Pokemon game... those will still be on Nintendo consoles. However, this WILL interact with future editions of the game and serve as the means on which it connects everything.
