[Webcomic] Webcomic Appreciation Jamboree

JL8 - just kinda stopped updating
VG Cats (actually did update once in 2021, which I missed)
JL8 - Officially on "hiatus" for awhile after the creator was accused of sending two women sexually explicit pics (he admitted to it eventually, said he grossly misjudged the situation and apologized) and after the creator faced some criticism for consistently putting out charity things that kinda served more as self promotion. Did a kid's book back in 2014, right around the time this was all coming out. Last update was Dec. 2021. Creator also does a lot of commission work via patreon and has an original book coming out.

VG Cats - One of many furry aligned artists that discovered doing furry commissions and porn is just way more profitable than mainstream content. Still does VGCats stuff occasionally.

On my own end...
Bomango - Van Heist spent years trying to turn this into a way for them to make a living to no avail (which is a shame, because it was actually pretty good). Artist goes by a new name now and makes a living drawing lucrative fetish art commissions and has basically cut off content with their old fanbase entirely. Do not advise looking up what exactly they draw now, it's pretty far out there for most normies.

Cucumber Quest - Ended in 2019 apparently, due to creator life issues.
The Zombie Hunters: Stopped in 2018 due to creator issues, last post is about a bird of theirs that went missing (I hope they found it).
Sidekick Girl - Stopped updating in May 2021, no update on why.
Protean Sea- Ended in 2018 when the artist met someone and got married.
Supernormal Step - Ended in 2018, artist moved on to Speak of the Devil.
Speak of the Devil - Ended in 2021, artist moved on to Nix of Nothing, which is ongoing.
Erma - Ended in 2016
{un}Divine - Apparently became patreon exclusive in 2019.

Maaaan, why does every thread end up with something needing to be cross-posted into Milkshake Ducks...

Speaking of comics coming back... Clay's back with what looks like it's going to be an interesting multi-part comic over at Depression Comix.

Clay's gone through a lot. I hope he's still doing well.
He started semi-regularly updating Sexy Losers (formerly known as The Thin H Line) again... does that bode well or ill for his situation? I couldn't say.

If Ghastly and Tang start updating again, the reversion to 20 years ago will be complete.

Looking at his main website (www.claycomix.com) he's been working on several side projects, in addition to Sexy Losers. I think he's doing alright.

After a 25 year run, Darren Bluel has wrapped up Nukees.

So, Sarah Ellerton, the creator of the old webcomics Inverloch and Phoenix Requiem, has an ongoing comic that nobody seems to be talking about anywhere: Immaterial. It's about people who are "pulled into a surreal escher-esque reality where things that are lost and forgotten find a home."

I'm enjoying it, and I figured I'd post about it here as long as I was stopping by.

How has Dumbing of Age gone on for 12 years despite only like...TWO years going by in canon I think? Its like Freefall to the Nth degree!

Anyone remember Freefall? Its apparently still a thing as well!

I like this one. Just a few pages in and I'm hooked by the art alone. Thanks for recommending.

I've said this before, but I'm constantly blown away by David Willis' output. He's not only consistently put out a strip daily without missing a day, but also has a months-long buffer (I think 6 months, if not longer; at one point, I think it was a year). That's on top of doing Patreon bonus strips, the occasional Slipshine comic, AND putting out a collection every year on Kickstarter. His middle name could be "Dependable Consistency."

If you really want your mind blown, it's only been 5 months in canon. The entire comic is only supposed to run through their freshman year, iirc. I don't know how he does it.

Sweet Jesus. Honestly it reading wise its accurate timewise, but STILL it feels like a century has gone by.

I'm also gonna say, I will ALWAYS love this comic-BUT-like many drama stories I enjoy sometimes I just wanna WARP into the story and shout "STOP BEING A DUMB ASS!"

JL8 started updating again. Chapter 3 page 1 and Ch3pg2 (Is that an Amalgam Comics reference?)

What are....newspapers....?

I mean, the amount they were probably paying him wasn't worth it. Before the internet when circulations were strong then okay. But now? Sorry, dirtbag. You're dead weight now.

Welcome to capitalism.

Reading "Neglected Mario Characters" is weird as an adult, when your a kid the typos aren't noticeable at all but as an adult its like...god damn. The Comic Genesis clone site does give a good time warp vibe though.

Not really a "web" comic, but close enough.

What a shame. /sarcasm

Who knew being a massive, Trump supporting dickbag means consequences?

As much as I want to blame this on karma biting him in the ass (and it did, at least a little), he was part of a whole bunch of newspaper comics, like Mutts, Bizarro, etc. that got cancelled in 77 papers today. Just once again proving that Scott Adams is nothing special, or worth keeping.

Which proves my point adequately.

Honestly a newspaper could keep or remove Dilbert and I wouldn't have thought about it one way or the other. Because I never would have even known had Adams not complained about it.

Is there anything more depressing than looking through the old webcomics on ComicGenesis? So many dead sites, one of which linking to...fireball20XL, and we ALL know how THAT turned up!
