What, no Pokemon Go thread?

Niantic are both assholes, and incompetent, and DON'T NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS when they are such.

About a week-ish ago, Go stopped working entirely on my phone. No idea why. Then I caught wind that they made it not work on rooted devices.

Here's a thought: TELL ME THAT!!! Don't just be at the login prompt forever. I suspected it when my tablet (not rooted) worked fine, but this didn't. Thus I started looking around and found it pretty quick.

So then I found this: Magisk on XDA Note: you need to download the actual root App as well if you use the phhSuperUser method

Works fine as long as you're "hiding" root with that.

So they make it so that if you're technical enough to root your phone, you're fucked, but if you're a BIT EXTRA more competent to find/do this, then you're fine? Fucking bastards.

Not that I like what they did, but it was in the patch notes.

I don't check the patch notes of every app that I update every single time, and no notes ever flashed up, or error message, or anything. It just hung at trying to log in, then would say "login failed". And I DID look at them afterwards, and it never showed up on the google play patch notes either. Only much later did I see their blog post.

I just found out about Brusselopole. May not be very useful (read: at all) for any of you not in Brussels, but it's still neat to look at...And maybe some of you want in on Worldopole (what a horrible name).

Basically IMO Niantic should just real-time publish the locations themselves. It'll result in LESS load to their servers, since people will go to an official source, and their server API will get hammered a lot less. And ultimately it'll make their customers happy IMO. The app itself could be more efficient, as it can load an "area" since it's not paranoid about somebody "snooping" the data stream, and thus again, less load on them. The only reason not to is philosophical about "integrity of the game" or such. But that ship sailed with me LONG ago when subjected to the EQ1 "Vision" as justification... SO MANY TIMES.

Ultimately, it's usually better to let the players play the way they WANT to, but that's just my opinion.

I know about them; Brusselopole doesn't actually give locations of current Pokémon, though. It provides a heatmap of where Pokémon have been spotted. So I can tell that, for example, if I want to catch a Charmander in Brussels, well, there's only two parks in the whole city where I might catch them - and mostly in the early afternoon/evening.

Playing Pokemon Go has twisted my perception of the value of individual Pokemon, and now when I go back to Omega Ruby, my judgment of how good a trade is has been affected.

"Oh, you're offering a Magikarp? Awesome!"

Traded Magikarp are the best Magikarp: the exp boost from trading means it takes less time to turn it into a murder machine.

Oh yeah, Dragon Dancing Mega Gyarados is pure sex. Problem is, though, I already have a Dragon Dancing Mega Gyarados, so I don't need any more Magikarp. Unlike in my Pokemon Go game, where I am still 295 candies away from evolving my Magikarp.

<humblebrag disguised as a question>

Hey, how rare are Kabuto and Omanyte where you guys are? Because I hadn't come across either of them at all since I started playing, but managed to see and catch them both over this past weekend. :D

I've two or three of each. They didn't exist until one of the last "turn-overs" where an eevee nest in my street became a Kabuto nest, and a park a bit further suddenly started spewing Omanytes. Haven't been playing enough to catch many of them though.

I saw the shadow of a Kabuto in NYC, but haven't caught one. I have gotten a few Omanytes, but not enough to evolve. But my one and only Charmander I did catch in the wild! (Before one of the recent updates, my friend found a Charmander "nest" at the World's Fair globe in Flushing Meadows. I wish I could have gotten to it before it changed.)

If you weren't planning on trick-or-treating, you may want to think again. An update for Oct. 26-Nov.1 says there's going to be an increased occurrence of ghost types (maybe I'll finally get my Gengar!), catching a Pokemon with net you 6 candies, and walking with your Buddy will get you 4x the candy. There's also a new egg coloring system, but meh, whatever. Gimme the candy!

Man, they weren't kidding. These mofos are everywhere. They're as common as Pidgeys and Rattatas were, if not more. I'm probably going to end October with something like six decently sized Gengars.

My daughter got an Eevee hat from Hot Topic, so she's going to wear that and a brown dress and be Eevee for Halloween. Which is probably the lowest key she's ever gone for Halloween, which is a sure sign of her impeding teenagerhood. Good thing she's doomed to be flat chested so she won't be able to pull off most of the slutty Halloween costumes as she gets older. :p

I'd just like to point out... and I apologize unreservedly in advance for being creepy... but I'd just like to point out that some guys are into that.

Ok, correction, I'm going to have sixty decently sized Gengars by the time November rolls around. I've caught enough Ghastlys today to fully evolve two of them into Gengars, all before my mid-morning poop.

I foresee a lot of Gengars in gyms from now on.

The worst part is, I was actually using the buddy system to work on my only Ghastly before all this. I'd noticed that Gengars are fairly rare in gyms, and I wanted to have one I could battle with. And now everyone's going to have tons of big Gengars.
