I love asparagus. Usually I eat it with lots of butter, salt & pepper. Creamy sauces go well with asparagus though. Hollandaise sauce is really good, but I have not learned to make it yet. I do know how to make a really easy cream sauce. Take some dice onion and saute it until soft, then toss in some minced garlic. Then add a half a block of cream cheese or so, and then milk to the right consistency. Sorry, I don't really measure when making this. It's simple, tasty and tastes good on a lot of things besides asparagus.

I'll have to find the recipe for an asparagus casserole I like later.

I've found that a nice quick saute in a little bit of butter and lime juice is a nice change from the normal asparagus.

Have you tried roasted asparagus? A dry cooking method will give it a meatier flavor than wet cooking methods, which bring out the green flavors.

Last night I finally tried Viva la Waffle. It's this waffle sandwich truck in town, and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Well, I ordered The Roscoe--a piece of fried chicken drizzled with spicy honey and wrapped in a waffle. I wish they hadn't wrapped it up with paper, because it made the waffle a bit soggy on the bottom. Otherwise, OM NOM NOM. I will definitely be going back.

Two part dinner, surf and snout. Salmon pan seared over cauliflower puree with a mussel, fennel, lemon grass, and ginger broth. Roasted pork tenderloin on the same puree with a white wine, apple juice and ginger jus.

Please explain.
Up until a year or two ago it was illegal to add caffeine to any soft drink that wasn't dark. The law was lifted, but soft drink companies still don't produce non-cola caffeinated soft drinks (that aren't energy drinks).

Wait, what?
Does that mean that in Canada, RC Cola doesn't refresh, revive and renew? That could really get to me.

I don't think RC Cola has ever been sold in Canada, but I could be wrong. It's never been sold anywhere near me anyway.

I live in Ohio and most of the RC Cola I can buy here is imported from Canada, as it's made from real sugar. So yes... you can get it in Canada. I think you just need to live by the border.

Just got done testing a brownie recipe so I can make them for some folks at the hospital I volunteer at. I didn't have enough baking soda, so they came out thick and heavy like cake... but otherwise they taste fine.

Homemade split pea and ham soup last night. Was delicious. Had a nice smoky ham, and finished the soup off with a little bit of alderwood smoked salt - definitely a tasty meal. Which is good because now I have approximately a gallon left over.

Last night I made Jake's Special Birthday Dinner #1 of his special birthday week dinners: Venison burgers with grilled onions, and chocolate cake! Also coming up this week: White beans and sausage, tacos, eggs in purgatory, and cheesecake!

I think tomorrow i am going to try my hand at hollandaise sauce. Here's hoping it works...

Well the verdict is in and I have to say it turned out.. pretty good. If I ever endeavor to make it again I am investing in a higher quality butter. That walmart brand crap is well crap. But at least it turned into sauce.

So what do you guys think about tobasco sauce? Like it? hate it? how do you use it?
