Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

After spending two weeks making costumes, I've been wandering around the house ever since hopelessly bored. My brain is dumb and can't handle the loss of stimuli well apparently. :p

Ugh. My wife and I have developed a nasty habit of eating too much binging on sugar free candy. Bi-Mart has a great selection... but right now the combination of Sorbitol, Maltitol, and Xylitol is... unpleasant.

It's been my birthday for 1 whole hour.

Got off work 15 minutes ago.

Went into work at 9am.

Binged with pizza today. First time my blood sugar's been in the 190's for a month.

Gotta get up in 4.5 hours to vote, go back to work, and then drive 8 hours to pick up my son.

Not exactly the best birthday ever ;)

A Colorado weed license in WV just means you get laughed at as you get stuffed into the cruiser.

And by the way, trying to use that as an excuse means you are confessing to a felony.

No one actually got arrested, but they did get tossed out of here by the previous shift. All I had to do was make sure they were gone and reset the door lock.

I had a cavity filled today, too! They had to hit me with a double dose because novacaine just doesn't seem to do the trick on me the first time :/
I wish I'd get a double dose. I've had it start to wear off and I have to fight off the panic attack of being able to FEEL THINGS. I'm just glad I can turn on an audio book and close my eyes and pretend that the dentist totally doesn't freak me out.

I just got lucky finding this dentist. I think he might give me cocaine if I asked for it, and would get my dental insurance to pay for it.

Not trying to one up anyone, but I had a filling done with no Novocaine at all. The dentist said it was shallow, and I should be fine. I guess it didn't really hurt per se, but the vibration is really irritating. You don't notice it with the Novocaine.

I've had plenty of cavities filled with no Novocaine. I went through a whole period where I was more terrified of the novocaine needle than I was of pain.

I'm in the same boat as GasBandit. I don't get numb. The dentist always shoots me up 3 or 4 times in the gums in the hopes that I'll be numb enough not to feel the big shot in the roof of my mouth. But I always feel it, and for some reason, he's always surprised.

Similar here, though not as bad. I always need at LEAST twice as much numbing as anybody else, but the real bad part is that it wears off quickly as well. So they're partway through and sometimes need to re-up the freezing before proceeding. That's the REALLY big annoyance.

Yup. When I had my cataract surgery, the block they put on the eye muscles is supposed to last 6 hours.
Mine wore off before the 15 minute surgery was complete. The doctor was all mad at the anesthesiologist but he just shrugged and said "the guy said he was resistant to anesthesia. What do you expect me to do?"

Well, I'm not quite THAT resistant, but it always takes a double dose.

Amazon.ca is doing it's damnedest to drive me away. Quietly reducing the 20% preorder savings to 10% without even a notification to Prime Members, reducing the amount of stuff that ships Prime, and now, a gift I was planning to buy a friend for Christmas, has literally tripled in price overnight. It's not even a reseller item, it's sold by Amazon. It went from 120 to 330 in one day, no change in the stock of the item. What the fuck is going on?

Our son is home sick again and wants to play Monster Hunter with me and even though I've been puking for hours, dizzy and telling him that I have a terrible headache, he thinks that I'm making excuses not to help him with his quests...

Just ask him if he's making excuses to stay home and play Monster Hunter. :awesome:

Lol. He's certainly not sad that he has to stay home, but his cough is brutal and he has quite the fever.

When he's awake, he's pretty demanding. He doesn't seem to understand that I can't kill gigantic monsters while spewing lol.

My mom used to say "If you're too sick to go to school you're too sick for TV or Video games" and would banish me to my room.

Of course, that stopped working so well when I got a game boy, and later, a PC :p

Play with him, and then spew in his lap in the middle of it. I bet that will cool his jets a bit ;)

So, my wife wants us to do a year of postgrad study in the UK.

I understand why she wants it. She's lived in Taiwan all her life, apart from a few short vacations abroad, so she's always craved the experience of living overseas. We met a few old friends of ours in Vancouver during our trip to Canada earlier this year, and they told us about how they went to Canada to study and then work, and that inspired my wife to pursue her own dreams too. She also wants me to go study with her, because I'm not going to let her go alone, so since I'm there too I might as well get a degree myself. This would be my third attempt at a masters degree, so hopefully third time's the charm.

I'm proud of her, I really am, because she's been completely fired up since our Canada trip, and she's been doing all the planning and arrangements for our applications. She picked out the schools we'll be applying to, she listed all the documents we'll need, she went through all the application processes, etc.

I've been doing the husbandy thing as best I can and have supported her every step of the way. This is her lifelong dream, of course I'm going to do what I can to make it come true. The problem is that this whole situation is REALLY stressing me out.

Firstly, I've studied in the UK before, and I know it's not all fun and games. Doing a postgrad degree in just one year (compared to two years in most of the rest of the world) means the academic pressure is heavier. The weather in the British Isles is cold, wet, dreary, and depressing. The food is boring at best. The cost of living is higher than Taiwan, so we'll need to keep to a tight budget. Basically, living and studying in the UK is not as easy as my wife seems to think sometimes. I've been trying to help her manage her expectations here, but it's not easy.

Secondly, my previous stint in the UK came to an ignominious end when I flunked out of university due to chronic depression. This whole process of reapplying to study in the UK is basically picking at some mental scabs I'd really prefer to leave alone. This is exacerbated by the fact that I need to contact my old university a lot, for various reasons.

Thirdly, because I've studied in the UK before, my application is actually much more complicated. I need to explain why I was there for three years, but don't have a degree to show for it. I need to explain why I was there in the first place (it was due to my dad's job). I need to explain what I've been doing since then. And I need to do all of this in a way that won't make me look too bad to the university admissions people.

Oh and two people studying there for a year will cost a pretty chunk of change too, of course. Fortunately my parents are willing to lend us the money, which is good, because they probably won't charge interest like a bank would.

Sigh... I know I'm lucky to have the opportunity to study abroad. And I really do want to do the husbandy thing and support my wife as much as possible. I just rather liked my life when it was boring, routine, and filled with monotonous bliss.

Convince her to come study in Brussels, perhaps at the VUB. Most courses are available in English, very high standard of education, a lot cheaper than the UK, better food, and a pervy owl to keep you company. Only the weather's just as bad.

Come to Halifax. She already liked Canada (other coast, but still), the weather is better than the UK (not a LOT, but still better), and the food is NOT boring at all. And you'd have a support system of friends here, which would probably count for a LOT.

Want a university? We have enough to choose from:
Dalhousie (the largest, 200 years old next year)
Mount St. Vincent
University of King's College
St. Mary's
Other post-secondary:

And that's all in the city. St. FX is in the province too.

Would a Master's help you at this point? It sounds like you're doing well. Would a lack of a Master's prevent you from moving up in a company? They don't always help. However, I applaud the willingness to help your wife achieve her goals. I give you a husbandly brofist. I would love to live in Vancouver. I think it's my favorite city that I have visited.

I was gonna break in the new replacement dashcam with a little karaoke on my way to lunch today... got back, popped out the SD card, and found I had accidentally hit mute at some point so no sound recorded /headdesk /facepalm
