Your Favourite Halforums Moment(s)

#1

ThatNickGuy

I think I created a thread like this before, but it was a long, long time ago. So let's do another! What are some of your most memorable or favourite Halforums moments?

Mine include:

1) The thread where I panicked because people kept following me.
2) The wonderful forum-wide eulogy for North_Ranger.
3) Bumble trolling me in the first Make This Face Challenge.
4) Any time @Cheesy1 does a photoshop (especially the time he photoshopped me with Beaker's head)
5) The time we sang The Muppets Theme song, one line at a time. Amazingly, no one broke the chain. Really, that whole thread was gold, like @Dave's growing frustrating that he couldn't find Kermit in the Green with Envy poster.
6) All the times you guys have put up with me when my mental health is rock bottom.
7) @Adam posting reaction gifs. I miss those.
8) SIMILIES?! (even if that gag ran its course)
9) Making @Zero Esc do my bidding.

The 12 inches thread.

Necronic making a thread to call out Officer Charon, Charon not seeing it until nine months later, and Necronic's gem of a reply: "Police response times on this forum are terrible."

Not sure if it was this iteration (pretty sure it wasn't), but one of my all time favorites was the great Campaign where people ran for office and they actually had party platforms and shit! It was pretty amazing.

I once got elected Halforums' most eligible bachelor merely by grousing about how demeaning a "most eligible bachelor" contest was.

But at any rate, my most favorite Halforums thing was from waaay back in the day - Pre-Joe Image comics PVP forum - the "Americanization of the UK" thread that Tiq started. It went over 100 pages in only a couple weeks and it just wouldn't die. It had everything. Gun control, health care, capital punishment, and of course, flames and flames and flames galore. It was probably part of what led to the "monthly wipe" policy.

But also you guys were there for me when I was at my lowest, and I'd been nothing but an obstreperous jerk up until that point. It really helped, and it really changed a lot of who I am.

It was like a masterclass in trolling. The first one was good, but the second one was pure gold.

I keep thinking of doing another Make This Face challenge, but they don't seem to go over well. I searched for the other ones and I got pretty upset in the third one for some reason. I must've been having a particularly bad day.

That sounds familiar...I think that may have been one of the first threads I lurked-read. (Not the whole thing, but i think I read the latter half.)

I think that kind of insanity kept me coming back. Whenever I needed some entertainment, I knew things were guaranteed to be  in a few threads.

Hmm, I think I'd have to go with the time @Calleja made a thread "confirming" that Bruce Campbell had been cast as Mysterio in Spider-Man 4 as a joke...and the mods punished him by changing the title to Confirmed! Calleja "more than just friends" with pet sheep. And then followed it up by changing his rank title to "Sheep-shagger", his sig to...I think it was a bunch of DBZ pictures, & locked it all so that he couldn't change it back.

Oh, and reading through the Hall of Shame I noticed there was some sort of Troll of the Year contest going one that I was jokingly trying to win.

And then, from long ago, I was participating in a global warming thread when someone posted some silly graph of ice age conditions in defense of his argument. I read it, thought, "this is stupid, none of us really know what the fuck we're talking about." And ever since, I have stopped wanting to talk argue politics

Most profound are definitely the Christmasing, mass eulogy, and finding out Chad was OK. Each of which made me cry.

Both of those threads were a complete and utter disaster.

Ah, good times. That shit was hilarious. Though I SWEAR you had a similar one using a painting depicting the Civil War.

Also, I just remembered something else with you. I'd been talking about asking out some girl (like I do). You posted a caption using a picture of Disney's Beast, but wearing a monocle and top hat. The caption was this long, overly flowery and snooty message, calling me a homosexual (or a similar, old-timey term). When I responded, "So, what are you trying to say?" you posted another caption with Beast, sans monocle/top hat, shouting "DO IT, FAGGOT!" Horribly offense in retrospect, but the timing of it all made me laugh so hard.

I have had my own website for a couple of decades. I'm still a lazy fuck and use sites like imgur (or tinypic in the past) because I can't be assed to ftp into my own site just to transfer files, nor can I gather the will to care enough to write my own easy-to-use file importer (which is certainly within my capabilities)

Besides, I don't want any of those nudes that are running around in the wild directly associate-able to me. :D

Same same. Well, except for the nudes and stuff. The final nail in the coffin of my image hoard was that its album software turned out to have huge gaping security flaws that actually let scammers hijack my webserver and make their own subdomain without me noticing and then in turn using it to scam other people with fake USAA e-mails >_< that was a fun rat's nest to detangle and hole to plug.

Yeah, I quit hosting my own web server at my house sometime in the early 2000s when script kiddies started finding the holes faster than I could plug them. I think the final straw was when my tinwhistle site was broadcasting a mid-east "death to america" page for 3 days.

But, to get back on topic, and sorry to toot my own horn, but I think one of my favorite threads was when someone asked if they'd let Shego "hit that", and I posted something along the lines of letting her drill me with a strap-on. For me, it was before I changed my screen name - and the reason I changed my screen name. A quote-unquote webcomics critic decided to viciously libel me because I stood up for my collective-mates. He was apparently notorious for it, but had quite the fixation on me. He had my real name, too, and his bizarre rankings became the top Google results for my name. Since I was trying to find a job at the time...yeah...

Then you magnificent bastards went and made a counter-blog and started loading it up with positive stories about me, and tried to overwhelm the nasty shit.

And, of course, you all took it too far, practically into Paul Bunyan tall-tale territory, and took the blog down. You guys have no idea how much that meant at the time, though, and I'll never forget it.

Gared

Gared

Lot of great (and poignant, and sad) moments on the list. I'd have to say one of my, not favorite per se, but more memorable moments was when Makare attempted to argue (as a law student) that because of the 1st amendment right to free speech, she - and anyone else - could say whatever they wanted on Halforums with zero consequence and if Dave banned any of them, it was because he was a tyrannical dictator.

But mostly I just love having a community of people who, for one reason or another, all care about each other to one extent or another, where I can come in and rant about my day, or get some tech advice, or learn how to build crazy singing pumpkins, or just give someone a metaphorical hug if they're having a bad day.

I liked her as well, but as a lawyer she had some...interesting views on the law that could not have been correct. And she hated my digs about South Dakota as much as Mikko hated digs about sauna pants.

Cmon, we had Straub, Larsen, and Kurtz, and the Stalin kid who ran the Ctrl-Alt-Del, gamespot, damn, I did spend too much time in forums back in my previous job.[DOUBLEPOST=1485406489,1485405985][/DOUBLEPOST]I kinda don't remember much from those years due to drinking and weird Brazilian parties, but a moment I remember until today was a rant I did on why Islam's "religion of peace > will never have peace while there are unbelievers > so all unbelievers will eventually have to be subjugated or converted > don't you see we fight because we are a religion of peace" was one of the worst misuses of a Catch 22 in history, to which I had some poster post that I, being white and Latino, knew nothing about Islam.

Quick scan of my Malaysian ID and passport, that still state that I am a Muslim, and a link to my Islamic school certificate, and I never heard from the guy again, and I remember it because that was the last time I actually used those, as my Brazilian passport means I'll need to face long lines and visa interviews to travel anywhere, a Malaysian one post 9/11 would mean profiling and possible cavity searches.

Also:

Aw, whatever happened to Silver Jelly.
@tegid is RL buddies with him, I imagine he would know.
I do! He's just caught up in RL I guess. Went through a rough patch, and is trying to finish his Ph.D. thesis now.

By the way, my 'favorite' moments or the ones I really remember and I will always carry with me are the two times the things that happened here really made me cry. One was very happy* and the other was very sad.

*well, I guess happy is not the right word. But you know what I mean.

I think my favorite moments have been the Secret Santa gift exchanges. It still makes me smile that people who only know each other on the internet can take the time to think of a nice gift, buy it, and ship it to a person they have never met.
One of the secret santa gift exchanges is one of my favorites. I bought someone on here some shirts from Threadless or some site, one of which was two unicorns having sex. I forget who that was. I got clothes for my kid and a 40k unit from someone, again the name I forget because I'm shitty and haven't been around in ages.

I'm sure as I read through this thread, I will remember more, especially from the PVP forum days. You guys are good fucking people.[DOUBLEPOST=1485821759,1485821685][/DOUBLEPOST]
Icarus. Holy crap. And the funny thing is that everyone was ignoring it until I pointed it out. Then he cursed at us and told us we were horrible people, then never returned.

And poor Iaculus. He left because people kept mixing him up with the pedo.
Holy shit! I remember this. When you spelled Iaculus, I had to double check because I thought you were talking about the same person. Man, we screwed the latter of those a bit.[DOUBLEPOST=1485822082][/DOUBLEPOST]Was it ThatNickGuy and the blonde that a lot of people had the hots for that got together and made dickerdoodles? That's made it into forum inside jokes that I make outside of the forum and people find pretty funny. I then admit that I didn't come up with it and credit "two crazy people that post on a forum I used to frequent...before the dark times...before reddit".
