I did like that no one could pronounce my last name when I was a professor, so they all just called me Dr. Jack.
My maiden name is French (the nationality, not the word) so, out of 8 letters only half of them are pronounced. No one ever said my last name right unless they knew me or my family. One night, when I was working in the casino, a customer spotted my nametag and yelled out my last name. He pronounced it correctly. I was shocked and amazed! I asked him how he knew it. Was he French? Canadian? A French major? No. A hockey fan and his favorite goalie had my last name.

I got shortened to Miller as soon as there was another Kevin in the same class as me and it stuck literally forever. People have tried variations on the theme (Milhouse, Millman, Miller Lite, MGD, Mildner) but none of them have really stuck.

Between the military and this job, I've picked up a buttload of aka's...

I've been known as Scribe, Lurch, Trenchcoat, Ogre, Sloth, Mongo, Ten-hut... I've not yet been given a name by the dirties out there, unlike my friend from the Academy, who is known as "Officer Grizzly..."

You know, you just increased the chances of me being able to pronounce your maiden name by about 50%.

For those who pronounce fire as though it rhymed with car, do they pronounce retired as retard?
I don't, but I live around and work with people who do, so I can confirm. Not only that, but they pronounce "tower" in such a way that it sounds like black goop.

Ran into a guy at a food festival who talked exactly like my late Papa. It was like he was saying hello.

"Well, darlin', if I were any better the Pope'd be jealous, ya know?" I love the way old Cajun men talk. :)
