Video Game News and Miscellany

A lot of that stuff was said about Deus Ex too before it was released. Hopefully it's just how that studio rolls.
Deus Ex was out after this much time though. They've literally got almost nothing to show people and it's taken them longer than the entire dev period for Human Revolution to get THAT.

... An explicit sex scene in the demo?

Look, I'm probably the biggest pervert gamer ever, and even I have no interest in sex scenes in my Thief games. What were they thinking?

Square Enix is laying off people from their European division (Eidos). You know, the place where the only games Square Enix has made in years that anyone has given a fat shit about came from.

Hrm... that watch dogs game looks like an interesting concept, but it will be a lot of work to pull off properly... especially if it's going to run on console.

They keep showing it off in it's next gen console form, I'm sure the 360 and PS3 versions will look significantly lesser.

I'm surprised no one's posted this:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/new...v-Tycoon-Dooms-Players-to-be-Ruined-By-Piracy

The publisher of Game Developer Tycoon purposely uploaded a copy of their game on various pirating sites. What they didn't inform said pirates is that this version will have you, the player, dealing with too many people pirating your game and causing a very early bankruptcy!

Personally, I thought it was brilliant. And for $9, I I decided to check out the game for myself purely for the above actions alone. And it's not a bad game, actually. It's got things they could probably iron out with a patch or two, but it's highly addictive.

It's not a new thing, developers have been doing this kind of thing for a long time. It's pretty funny when they do it though. Recently, in Serious Sam 3, an invincible warp speed scorpion monster appeared in cracked games that relentlessly killed players.

Oh, I never claimed it was a new thing. I just think it's funny how they did it, given that the game is a game development sim. What's even more deliciously ironic are the posts by some people begging for help.

I can't believe that game. And I can't believe Nintendo hasn't either come down on them like a bag of anvils, nor tried to buy them out.

Crazy.

I need to figure out how to get a message to Nintendo that they should put SNES games on the 3DS Virtual Console, or at least the GBA versions of them.

There are no more singular 40K rights. Games Workshop is only licensing them out on a game to game basis. Anyone can get the rights now. There's like 3 or 4 separate 40K games in development right now from different studios.

This is all rumours based on one website's claim to have an inside source at Bioware. There's no proof that I can find to substantiate it. That site has spelling errors in the story.

The Dawn of War games are good RTS (the second is more about squad-based play than base building). Space Marine was a fun 3rd person action jaunt.

There've been a lot of good 40K games (surprisingly). The old PC strategy titles were pretty good (but nigh unplayable today, as time marches on). Fire Warrior on the PS2 was pretty meh, but was kind of neat for being a 40K game not centered on the Imperium's perspective. Dawn of War was pretty great and it's expansions were all good, with the exception of Soulstorm that wasn't developed by Relic. Dawn of War 2 is definitely not for everyone, but is pretty enjoyable as a quick playthrough of the campaign (considering, during a sale you can get it and all it's expansions for less than 10 bucks, it's worth it's price). Space Marine is actually a pretty competent 3rd person shooter. It's flawed, but I liked it right up until it's shitty last boss despite it's repetition. The parts where you get to don an assault pack and jump jet around kicking all of the asses were definitely the highlight.

So they had some good RTS games and one FPS?

Honestly I'd have been more interested in the universe if that 40k MMO hadn't been canceled.

Space Marine is a 3rd person shooter, Gilg, not FPS. It's alright. Nothing special, but decent fun.

Dawn of War, Dawn of War: Winter Assault, and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade are the good ones, though there's less story as you go, but more races to play as.

The MMO was looking like a lot of fun. It sucks that it was cancelled.

Sorry, a few RTS and a 3rd Person shooter.

Like I said, the MMO would have snagged me, and I'm sure thousands more into the universe.
