I've been thinking about this. DoesnSam Jackson as Nick Fury really count seeing as his character in the comic is actually based on him?
If anything it's the opposite. Especially now in 616 that Nick Fury actually had a black son who lost his eye and calls himself Nick Fury.

This is incorrect. The Ultimate universe introduced Nick Fury as a black man and was drawn to look exactly like Samuel L Jackson.

This is Nick Fury as he appeared in Ultimates issue 1, well before the Marvel movies came out.

They only changed the mainstream universe to reflect this and the movies.

Karl Urban's been in so many great movies and roles, but unfortunately I can't look at him without associating him with the terrible Doom movie.

Well, considering the last time they cast Nick Fury, we got David Hasselhoff, yeah I give them a pass as it being good casting.[DOUBLEPOST=1368777594][/DOUBLEPOST]
This guy

Seriously, if you haven't seen Dredd yet you should.
Liked the movie quite a bit and I like Karl Urban quite a bit too, but hell, A LOT of actors could have played Dredd well. The thing that made his casting as Dredd great was his respect for the source material (such as apparently refusing to take the helmet off in the movie, fuck you Sly).

I credit the director of the movie more-so than anyone else really when it comes to esthetics such as Dredd never removing his helmet. Yes I suppose anyone could have played the part. I give Urban mad props for making it what it was WHILE wearing a helmet the entire time. The movie was awesome-sauce. Blurayed!

I think a lot of actors could very well play the part as well as he did, but very, very few would have accepted doing it without taking off the helmet. Just look at like every single super hero movie. The masks end up off the face of the heroes more than they're on. Fuckin' Tobey MacGuire's Spider-Man's mask was shredded immediately in almost every scrap he was involved in.

It definitely makes his casting in the film great, just not entirely for his acting chops. I think anyway.
